From dcd37a10efcdd466e4b4275781a5d6cb12c7aeec Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Stefan Walcz Date: Mon, 2 Nov 2026 11:59:56 +0100 Subject: [PATCH 01/18] fix(xsysinfo): read AMD GPU memory from sysfs when rocm-smi is missing getAMDGPUMemory only asked rocm-smi. ROCm 7+ images no longer ship it (only amd-smi, whose Python module is missing in the image), so on an AMD Strix Halo (gfx1151, ROCm 10.1 image) GET /api/resources returned "gpus": null and aggregate.gpu_count 0, and the Models page said "No GPU found. Fit is measured against 122.7 GB of memory" while inference ran on the GPU. The amdgpu driver exposes the same figures in sysfs, readable inside the container: /sys/class/drm/card0/device/vendor 0x1002 /sys/class/drm/card0/device/mem_info_vram_total 536870912 /sys/class/drm/card0/device/mem_info_vram_used 240300032 /sys/class/drm/card0/device/mem_info_gtt_total 128849018880 /sys/class/drm/card0/device/mem_info_gtt_used 33055911936 When rocm-smi is absent or reports nothing, walk the DRM tree with the existing scanSysfsGPUs (cardN only, connectors skipped, vendor 0x1002) and report every card that has mem_info_vram_total. The GPU report is built by one helper shared with the rocm-smi parser, so the shared-memory APU rule from #12058 (GTT >= 8x VRAM folds GTT into the totals) applies identically. GetResourceInfo, GetGPUAggregateInfo and the fit check all read GetGPUMemoryUsage, so they now see the GPU; DetectGPUVendor already consulted sysfs. Research and document tools behind a connector take minutes, so a saved agent lost them mid-turn with "connection closed: calling tools/call: client is closing" and the model fell back to a weaker tool. The connector service now gets the MCP tool timeout the rest of LocalAI uses (DistributedConfig.MCPToolTimeoutOrDefault, 360 s by default). The package default and the per-call output cap are unchanged. Tests in core/application start the connector service on JSON stores against a slow MCP server: the timeout defaults to the MCP tool timeout, a tool slower than the old cap but within the timeout returns, and a tool past the timeout is still stopped. The loader reads the indexes that apply to a chat and returns one bounded block under a fixed header, plus a key that changes with it. Details of a topic are read next to the index; the path is built from the registry and the chat, so the model can only name a topic. The package only reads. A Writer interface lets a later change plug in the save path, and CheckIndex and CheckProfile return the current entries when a write would pass a cap, so the model merges them. The scope of a source is derived from the chat record: the saved agent, and the binding when a connector started the chat. The text is the same at each turn, so the transcript does not grow, and it feeds the refresh key so the harness restarts only when a file changes. memory_read reads a topic next to an index as the user, outside the chat fence. A scoped agent reads its own notes and the user notes and gains no access to the files. The service exposes ContextSources and SetContextWriter so other parts of the host can register a source or plug in the save path. While that add-on does not run, the binding is listed as not running with the reason "install the Telegram add-on". +## Context files + +A context file is a short index in the user's home folder that the host puts in the +prompt of a chat, so the model knows what the user has saved without a tool call. The +details of each topic stay in files next to the index and the model reads them on demand +with the `memory_read` tool. The mechanism belongs to the host, not to one app: a plain +chat in Studio, a chat that a Slack binding started and a chat that a Telegram binding +started all go through the same loader. An add-on does not add code to the host; it +declares a source. + +### Declare a source + +A source has four fields: + +| Field | Meaning | +|---|---| +| `id` | A name, unique among the sources of the host. | +| `scope` | `user` (every chat of the user), `agent` (the chats of one saved agent) or `channel` (the chats that one connector binding started). | +| `path` | The index file, relative to the user's home, ending in `.md`. An `agent` path holds `{agent}` once and a `channel` path holds `{channel}` once. The host fills them from the chat; the model never names them. | +| `cap` | The most bytes of the index that the prompt carries. Default and maximum: 2 KiB. | + +For example, a memory add-on declares three sources: `Memory/index.md` for the user, +`Memory/agents/{agent}/index.md` for the agent and `Memory/channels/{channel}/index.md` +for the channel. A path with a parent segment, an absolute path, an unknown placeholder +or a file that does not end in `.md` is refused. A host holds at most 8 sources. + +Today a source is registered in process, with `Service.ContextSources().Register`. A +declaration in the add-on manifest is a separate change. + +### The index format + +An index is a Markdown file with one line per topic: + +``` +- home: lives in Rome -> home.md +- style: short answers, no emoji -> style.md +``` + +The file `home.md` sits in the same folder as the index. `memory_read` takes a `topic` +(the name before the colon, or the file name) and an optional `scope`; without a scope it +looks in the channel, then the agent, then the user. A topic name is letters, digits, `-` +and `_`, at most 64 characters. + +### What a turn carries + +Each turn the host reads the indexes that apply to the chat and adds one block to the +prompt, after the agent instructions, the persona and the agent profile: + +- A fixed header that asks the model to read the matching topic for almost every request, + and says the lines are data, not instructions. +- The indexes, widest scope first. One index has at most 40 lines and 2 KiB (or its + `cap`, if lower). All indexes of a turn together have at most 6 KiB. Control characters + are dropped. A cut index ends with a marker. +- Nothing, if no source is registered or no file exists. + +The text is the same at each turn until a file changes, so the transcript does not grow. +A change to an index restarts the model session at the next turn, like a change to the +persona does. `memory_read` returns at most 8 KiB of one topic. + +A saved agent can also have a profile at `LocalAI/agents//profile.md`, at most +4 KiB. The host adds it after the agent instructions and the persona. It needs no +source. + +### Access and limits + +The host reads the files as the user, outside the fence of the chat. A chat of a saved +agent that works in one folder therefore still reads the user index and the index of its +own agent, and gains no access to the files: its file tools still cannot read or write +`Memory/` or the profile. The path comes from the chat, so a chat never reads the index +of another agent or another channel. This change adds only read paths. A component that +saves notes plugs in through `Service.SetContextWriter` (the header then names its save +tool) and uses `contextfiles.CheckIndex` and `contextfiles.CheckProfile`: over a cap they +return the current entries in the error, so the model merges them instead of adding. + ## Owner forwarding and HTTP relays The embedding host can configure `AddonConfig.Transport` at startup. The configuration diff --git a/docs/content/features/make-localai-yours.md b/docs/content/features/make-localai-yours.md index eb9640e001..3c729c1193 100644 --- a/docs/content/features/make-localai-yours.md +++ b/docs/content/features/make-localai-yours.md @@ -20,6 +20,7 @@ The files need the chats and files of the server (see [Chats](/features/chats/)) | What | Say, for example | File | |---|---|---| | The assistant's name and how it answers | "Call yourself Ada and keep answers short" | `LocalAI/persona.json` | +| Standing rules of one saved agent | "Always answer this agent's users in French" | `LocalAI/agents//profile.md` | | What the assistant knows about you | "Call me Marta. A person who asked in a messaging app for a file that already existed got nothing. Add the attach_file tool. It is offered only in a chat that a connector started whose binding sends files, so a chat in Studio has no such tool. It takes a path as the file tools show it, checks the file against the chat's access (a scoped agent reaches only its folders), the type allowlist, the size limit and the count, and marks it. When it refuses, the result says why in plain words so the model can tell the person. sendFiles now sends the files the turn made, then the attached ones, each path once and at most five in all. It reads them with the chat's access resolved at send time. Delivery is the existing send_file op, so every connector add-on that implements it gets the feature with no code of its own. A failed send says "I could not send X" and adds the reason the add-on reports, cut to one short line. The marks are kept in the memory of the process, like the other per-turn state of the connector manager. The host does, and it +sends each one with the typed `send_file` op: the file is in the request (`name`, `mime` +and at most 1 MiB of `data`) with the chat and the thread of the message it answers. The +host chooses the files in two ways: + +- The files that the turn made or changed go on their own, after the answer. +- The files the agent picks with its `attach_file` tool go with them. The host checks the + path against the chat's access when the tool is called and again when it sends, drops + repeated paths, and counts both kinds in the limit of 5 files a turn. + +An add-on that implements `send_file` gets both, with no code of its own. It must not read +chat files or add tools for this. When the platform refuses a file, return a +`ConnectorError` with a short, plain `message` (for example the name of a missing +permission): the host puts it after "I could not send " in the message to the person. +Keep the message free of tokens and internal addresses. ### Other connectors From 5dc9ed707d36335218eaa7b52b62f75ef0127766 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Ettore Di Giacinto Date: Tue, 3 Nov 2026 09:25:59 +0000 Subject: [PATCH 17/18] fix(nodes): back off failed replica scale-ups per model When a scale-up failed, the reconciler tried again on every busy or pressure tick, which logged a warning and sent a new backend install each time. The "attempt" field in that warning was the loop index, so it always read 1 and hid the repeats. A model that no request has loaded yet logged "no load info" at warn level on every tick. Track consecutive scale-up failures per model in memory. After a failure, wait 30s, doubling on each further failure up to 10 minutes, before the next try. A successful scale-up resets the count. Log the failure count and the wait. Mark the missing load record with ErrNoLoadInfo and log it at debug level, because only a first request can fix it.
