Ettore Di Giacinto 1d8d3e3421 feat(backends): install a backend from a library entry
A library can now list backends. An entry of kind backend names the
image of the backend gallery by digest, and POST /backends/library/install
installs it on the local node. The gallery stays the source of truth and
its install path is the one used: the library resolves the entry, takes
the signature policy from the library, pins the image by digest and calls
the same install as the gallery. Installing a name that came from a
gallery, another library or by hand is refused and changes nothing.

The signature policy of a backend library names the signer with an
anchored identityRegex, so images signed by the merge workflow on master
and on tags both verify. A pattern that is not anchored is refused.

An install is bounded by a size limit per kind: add-ons keep 512 MiB and
a backend image defaults to 8 GiB, set with --addons-backend-max-bytes.
The limit reads the manifest after the signature check and before any
layer is fetched. The metadata of an installed backend records the
library it came from.

scripts/backends/cmd/backendcatalog renders entries from
backend/index.yaml and pins them against the registry. The pilot is the
CPU build of local-store, in gallery/backends/index.yaml. The library is
registered on the first start only with --addons-backend-library, which
is off by default.

Ettore Di Giacinto c24de4fc21 test(addons): move the remaining add-on tests to Ginkgo
The built-in catalog, tool arguments, loopback carrier, host operation
contract, packaging, application, config, CLI and endpoint tests used
the testing package calls that forbidigo rejects. They now run as Ginkgo
specs. The endpoint tests also drop the unchecked Close errors that
errcheck reports when the auth tag is on.

Ettore Di Giacinto 3569da24c5 feat(addons): register an official add-on library by default
Add gallery/addons/index.yaml, a YAML index of the four first-party
add-ons (fine-tuning, quantization, voice, face) in the library format.
The entries come from addonpkg catalog over locally built linux/amd64
packages, so the digests pin those images.

On the first start, when the owner has no sources.json, register the
raw GitHub URL of that index on master as the "official" library and
write the file. The file is then the record: a library the admin
removes stays removed, and an existing file is never changed.
--addons-official-library=false skips the default.

Ettore Di Giacinto 02a707558e feat(addons): ship Studio and Talk as add-ons instead of built-in pages
Studio and Talk were compiled into the web bundle and always listed in
the Add-ons drawer. They are add-ons now, like Voice, Face, fine-tuning
and quantization: a person installs and removes them, the drawer lists
them only while they are installed, and they are packaged the same way.

Move the pages, their components, hooks and helpers into addons/studio
and addons/talk. Each has a manifest, a UI bundle, a release platform
matrix and a catalog template, and is built by the compat mode of the
shared builder. The core API stays where it is: the pages call it with
the signed-in person's session. The history keeps its browser storage
keys. The unit tests of the moved helpers move with them.

In the core, drop the two pages, the Create group of the sidebar (Chat
joins Home and Models in the old layout), the built-in catalog entries
(the catalog is empty) and the talk locale namespace. The old addresses
(/app/studio, /app/talk and the generator links) redirect to the add-on
pages, with the model as ?model=. The Home /studio command is offered
only while the Studio add-on is installed and opens it.

The release workflow and its tests now list seven add-ons.

Ettore Di Giacinto 2de5ce7cae fix(addons): keep API keys off recovery mutations and same-site cookies
POST /api/addons/dispatch forwarded the recovery and update
mutations to the owner for any administrator key, which skipped the
browser-session rule of their own routes. Refuse those actions
there. Also apply the same-origin rule to the legacy token cookie,
not only the session cookie, because the global CSRF check lets
same-site requests through.

Do not fail the start of LocalAI when an add-on library cannot be
refreshed; log it and keep the installed add-ons up.

Ettore Di Giacinto 1604a67c1f feat(addons): add the add-on runtime, navigation and first-party add-ons
Add the add-on runtime to LocalAI: manifests, the host operation broker,
admin gating by account role, the add-on UI bundle builder and the SDK
for add-on pages. Move the navigation to Chat, Models, Add-ons and
Settings, with pinned add-ons in the sidebar and an Add-ons drawer.

Ship the first-party add-ons (voice, face, fine-tuning, quantization) as
packages for linux/amd64, linux/arm64 and darwin/arm64. Intel macOS
(darwin/amd64) is enabled in the platform files.

Squashed from the review branch. The tree is unchanged; the pre-squash
history is kept on a local backup branch.

Stefan Walcz 6fc2bc4967 fix(chat-history): create the store after the auth database is opened (#12788)
The conversation routes are only registered when the chat history store
exists, and the store needs the auth database. It was created in start(),
which New() runs before it opens the auth database, so the store was always
nil and /api/conversations answered 404 with auth enabled; the React UI fell
back to localStorage and nothing was synced between devices.

The route tests register the routes with a store directly and never went
through New(). Create the store right after the auth database is opened,
and cover it through New(): with auth the store exists, without auth or with
the WebUI disabled it stays nil.

mudler-agentandEttore Di Giacinto dce91ba7aa fix(backends): prefer installed development builds (#12782)
* fix(ci): capture and surface ginkgo errors in run-coverage.sh

The coverage script ran ginkgo per test root with `|| fail=1`, which
swallowed the exit code. Combined with `make --output-sync=target`,
which buffers all output and flushes at the end, the actual ginkgo
error was invisible in interleaved CI logs. Every test suite passed
but the script still exited 1, and the error message was buried in
22 000 lines of buffered output.

Each ginkgo invocation now captures combined stdout+stderr to a
per-root log file. On failure the last 80 lines are printed to
stderr so the error is visible in the CI log. On success the log is
replayed to stdout so test output remains visible.

The build flags (--tags, --coverpkg) are quoted correctly so values
containing spaces (e.g. --tags="debug auth") are preserved through
eval.

* fix(ci): create output dir before writing ginkgo logs

The previous commit added per-root log files but forgot to create
the output directory before the first ginkgo invocation. On CI the
coverage/ dir did not exist yet, so the shell redirect to
cover-pkg.out.log failed with "No such file or directory" before
ginkgo even ran.

* test(core/http): add canvas preview route to auth coverage allowlist

Commit 9ad78381d8 added GET /api/canvas/preview/:id as a public route
(no auth — the random id is the capability, an iframe cannot send API
key headers) but did not add it to expectedPublicRoutes in the route
auth coverage test. The test flagged the route as an anonymous-access
leak, failing the entire ./core ginkgo suite on every CI run since.

The POST /api/canvas/preview endpoint is auth-gated (returns 401 to
anonymous requests) and is intentionally absent from the allowlist.

* fix(backends): prefer installed development builds

Prefer compatible runnable development builds for generic aliases when
the preference is enabled. Keep concrete names and disabled selection
unchanged.

Pass worker-local configuration into resolver state before registration.
Synchronize saved frontend settings at startup and require a restart for
resolver changes instead of switching registered paths during runtime.

Add selection, root-shadowing, configuration, and restart-boundary tests.
Document fallback behavior and worker-local activation.

* fix(settings): isolate backend restart notices

A development preference save must not restart the watchdog. Separate
its server restart notification from the legacy reconfiguration signal.
Preserve existing response fields and genuine watchdog updates.

Exercise the real settings endpoint for both preference values, repeated
saves, and mixed watchdog updates. Verify resolver state and registered
paths remain unchanged until startup.

36307005a9 feat(chat-history): server-side chat history with tombstones (follow-up to #9902) (#12663)
* feat(schema): add Conversation schema for chat history (#9432)

Persist WebUI chat conversations server-side so browser refresh, private
windows, or device changes preserve user history (issue #9432). This
commit adds the on-disk representation:

- Conversation holds id, name, model, opaque history, MCP / sampling
  settings, and timestamps.
- ConversationsFile is the per-user list serialised to JSON.

History is stored as json.RawMessage so the server stays agnostic to
React message shapes (user / assistant / thinking / tool_call /
tool_result mixed with text / image_url / audio_url / file attachments).

* feat(chathistory): add file-based per-user conversation store (#9432)

File-backed persister for chat history. Each user's conversations live
under {baseDir}/{userID}/conversations.json (anonymous/ when auth is
disabled).

Design choices:
- In-memory cache backed by sync.Mutex so concurrent saves don't
  interleave writes.
- Atomic write via tmp file + os.Rename so a crash mid-save never
  leaves a corrupted history.
- ID validation regex blocks path-traversal payloads at the store
boundary, in addition to the auth context constraint.

Tests cover round-trip persistence across instances, user isolation,
unsafe-ID rejection, bulk replace migration, and the anonymous fallback
path.

* feat(api): expose chat conversation CRUD endpoints (#9432)

Wire the chathistory store into the HTTP layer. New endpoints under
/api/conversations:

- GET /api/conversations list
- POST /api/conversations upsert (id in body)
- DELETE /api/conversations delete all
- PUT /api/conversations/bulk replace entire set (localStorage migration)
- GET /api/conversations/:id fetch one
- PUT /api/conversations/:id upsert (id in path; path id wins over body)
- DELETE /api/conversations/:id delete one

All endpoints scope queries to the authenticated user via getUserID(c)
- callers cannot impersonate other users by passing a user_id in the
body. The endpoints are gated behind the new chat_history feature
permission (default ON in APIFeatures), registered through the existing
RouteFeatureRegistry so the unified feature middleware picks them up
automatically.

Application.ChatHistoryStore() returns nil when DisableWebUI is set or
no persistence path is configured, in which case route registration is
skipped entirely rather than registering handlers that always 503.

Also adds the chat-history instruction entry and Swagger tag so the
endpoint surfaces in /api/instructions and /swagger.

* feat(react-ui): sync chat history to server with localStorage fallback (#9432)

useChat now probes /api/conversations on mount. When the endpoint
responds 200, the server becomes the authoritative source: the hook
merges remote conversations into local state and pushes per-chat PUT
updates on each debounced save. When the endpoint 404s - older LocalAI
deploys or the feature disabled - the hook silently keeps the old
localStorage-only behaviour, so the change is backward-compatible.

Migration: when the server is reachable but empty and the browser has
local conversations with history, the hook fires a single
PUT /api/conversations/bulk to seed the server. The atomic bulk endpoint
avoids partial-upload states where a retry would skip already-uploaded
entries.

Delete operations propagate to the server when it's available; failures
are silently swallowed so the local UI stays responsive on transient
network errors.

* test(chathistory): rewrite tests in Ginkgo/Gomega

The initial test file used the stdlib testing package (t.Fatalf /
t.Errorf), which is forbidden by the forbidigo linter rule in
.golangci.yml — LocalAI mandates Ginkgo/Gomega for all Go tests (see
.agents/coding-style.md).

Restructured the same six scenarios into Describe / Context / It blocks,
with a chathistory_suite_test.go bootstrap that registers the Ginkgo
fail handler. Test coverage is unchanged: basic CRUD round-trip, cross-
instance persistence, user isolation, unsafe ID rejection (now via
DescribeTable), bulk replace overwrite, and the anonymous fallback
path.

* refactor(chathistory): switch store to GORM-backed authDB

Addresses mudler's review on #9902. Chat history was the only per-user
state in LocalAI sitting in a separate filesystem store instead of the
shared GORM database — AgentStore and JobStore both live there. Move
it onto Application.authDB so per-user state stays in one place.

* ConversationRecord (GORM model) with composite primary key
(user_id, conv_id) — React mints IDs locally with no global
coordination so per-user uniqueness is the natural shape.
* Store.New(db *gorm.DB) replaces Store.New(baseDir string).
Save / Get / List / Delete / DeleteAll / ReplaceAll keep their
signatures so HTTP handlers and the React UI are untouched.
* ReplaceAll runs in a transaction with an Unscoped() pre-clear so a
future retention sweep cannot resurrect a stale ID on re-upload.
* gorm.DeletedAt in the schema means a future retention pruner is a
one-line query — addresses the second half of the review (unbounded
in-memory map). The map is gone: reads go straight to the DB.

Trade-off worth flagging in the PR reply: chat history persistence
now requires auth.Enabled = true (that's what initialises
Application.authDB). With auth disabled the React UI transparently
falls back to localStorage, the same path the original PR took on
404. Consistent with AgentStore / JobStore; if a "chat history
always on" mode is preferred we can pull DB init out of auth.InitDB
into a shared helper.

* refactor(schema): drop now-unused ConversationsFile envelope

ConversationsFile was the JSON wrapper for the old file-based chat
history store — a {Conversations: [...], UpdatedAt: ...} pair
serialised to disk under {baseDir}/{userID}/conversations.json. The
previous commit replaced that store with a GORM-backed one that
writes rows directly as ConversationRecord, leaving the envelope
without a consumer.

* test(chathistory): switch tests to testutil.SetupTestDB

Mirror the AgentStore test setup: spin up a PostgreSQL 16 container
via testutil.SetupTestDB(), construct a Store on top of it, exercise
CRUD round-trips. The previous file-based fixtures (TempDir,
filepath.Join checks) are no longer meaningful now that the store
talks GORM.

Tests are skipped on macOS (testcontainers needs Docker) and run on
CI, same as the other GORM-backed suites in the repo.

Also reframed two cases:
* "unsafe IDs" → "malformed IDs" — the DB-backed store doesn't care
about path traversal, but idRegex still rejects whitespace /
control characters so IDs stay safe in logs and HTTP responses.
* "anonymous user" no longer pins a directory path (no directory
exists anymore); instead it checks the round-trip plus the
  per-user isolation guarantee.

Added a DeleteAll round-trip to cover the bulk-clear endpoint.

Signed-off-by: TLoE419 <tloemizuchizu@gmail.com>

* test(chathistory): cover the conversation HTTP handlers

The seven /api/conversations handlers had no tests. Inject the
*chathistory.Store into the handlers instead of the whole Application and
move the route table into RegisterChatHistoryRoutes, so a spec can drive
the real registration and middleware chain (auth.Middleware plus the
chat_history feature gate) against an in-memory SQLite auth database.

The new specs cover 401 without credentials on every route, 403 when an
admin revoked chat_history, the CRUD round trip, path id over body id,
400 on malformed ids and bodies, per-user isolation, bulk replace and
delete-all, and that a nil store registers nothing (the UI then falls
back to localStorage).

The handlers' nil-store branches are gone: the routes are only
registered with a store, so those branches could never run.

* fix(chathistory): make deletions final with tombstones and versions

A conversation deleted on one device came back as soon as a client with
a stale copy wrote it again: Delete soft-deleted the row, and the next
Save went through GORM's upsert, which cleared deleted_at and resurrected
it for every device. The lookup that recovered CreatedAt also ran outside
any transaction, so concurrent writers raced on it.

The server is now authoritative over deletions:

* Delete turns the row into a tombstone: content dropped, deleted_at
set. It is idempotent, and deleting an id the server has not seen yet
still records a tombstone, so a delete that overtakes the UI's
in-flight debounced save of the same chat still wins.
* Save runs in a transaction, refuses a tombstoned id with ErrDeleted
(HTTP 410 Gone), and bumps the version with a single
UPDATE ... SET version = version + 1 guarded by deleted_at IS NULL,
so concurrent writers each count and a delete committed between the
lookup and the write still wins. Two concurrent first writes of the
same id retry once (ON CONFLICT DO NOTHING, then update).
* Every row carries a server-assigned version (1 on the first save,
+1 per write including the delete), returned to the client. A non-zero
version tells the UI the server has seen a conversation, which is how
it can tell a never-synced draft from a server-side deletion.
* GET /api/conversations returns the tombstones under "deleted".
* DeleteAll and ReplaceAll leave tombstones too. ReplaceAll no longer
hard-deletes everything first; it upserts the payload, skips ids that
were deleted (reported in "skipped"), and tombstones the rest.
* createdAt/updatedAt are stored as the client sends them (only zero
values are stamped), so clients compare updatedAt from their own
clocks rather than against the server's.

The store specs now run against PostgreSQL (testcontainers) and, with
the auth tag, SQLite through auth.InitDB, since both back the auth
database. The API specs cover a stale client reconnecting after a remote
deletion. Swagger is regenerated with swag v1.16.6 (json.RawMessage
fields get swaggertype), and the feature is documented, including that
it needs user auth.

* fix(react-ui): let the server decide which chats were deleted

mergeRemoteAndLocal kept every chat that was only in the browser and
let the server copy win for every shared id. A stale browser therefore
uploaded chats deleted on another device as if they were new drafts,
and a message sent while the list request was still in flight was
replaced by the older server copy and then lost from localStorage too.

The first load now reconciles with the server's tombstones and versions:

* a chat the server lists under "deleted" is dropped locally;
* a chat on both sides keeps the copy with the newer updatedAt, so an
  edit made during the load wins and is uploaded afterwards;
* a chat only in the browser is uploaded only if it was never synced
(no version). With a version the server has seen it and no longer
has it, so it is dropped instead of resurrected (this also keeps one
  account's cached chats out of another account on a shared browser);
* deletes made while the list is loading are queued and sent once it
  arrives.

Saves record the version the server returns, and a 410 on save drops
the chat locally instead of retrying it forever. Chats received from
the server count as already sent, so adopting a server copy no longer
echoes it straight back. The bulk localStorage migration is gone: it
replaced the whole server set from a possibly stale browser, and the
per-chat saves already upload never-synced drafts through the tombstone
check.

The Playwright spec drives each case against a stubbed
/api/conversations that follows the server contract.

* fix(chathistory): keep the LocalAI Assistant toggle on synced chats

master's createNewChat sets localaiAssistant, but serializeChat did not
send it and schema.Conversation had no field for it, so a chat with the
Assistant mode on came back with it off after a reload from the server
(and the local cache dropped it too). Add the field on both sides. The
other fields createNewChat sets were already covered; a handler spec now
round-trips all of them, and the UI spec checks the toggle on the way up
and in the local cache.

* fix(react-ui): scope chat cache per account, retry unconfirmed deletes

Two gaps in the client half of server-side chat history, both found in
review:

The browser cache was one shared localStorage key. A draft that one
account could not upload (a failed first save) stayed in it, and after
that account signed out and another signed in, the reconcile kept the
unversioned draft and the save pass uploaded it into the second
account. The cache now lives under localai_chats_data:<user id>, Chat
remounts its state when the account changes, and nothing is synced
without a signed-in account. The shared key is left for browser-only
use without auth and is not uploaded when signed in, because nothing
tells which account it belongs to.

Deletes were dropped locally and their DELETE errors swallowed; only
deletes made while the first list was loading were queued, and not
persisted. A delete made while the server was unreachable therefore
came back with the next list. Deletes (single, delete all, and deletes
on the Home page) are now kept as pending deletes in the account's
cache until the server confirms them, override the server list in the
reconcile, and are sent again on the next change, on the online event
and on the next load. While a delete-all is pending no conversation is
uploaded, so a chat started after it is not caught by it.

The Playwright specs replay both review scenarios (account switch after
a failed first save; delete and delete-all while offline) with
counter-checks that the same account keeps and uploads its own draft
and that a confirmed delete is neither re-sent nor resurrected.

* fix(react-ui): persist cleared chats immediately

Navigation cancels the debounced cache write and can restore unsynced
chats after Clear all. Save the cleared list with its pending deletion
before returning, and cover immediate navigation in the browser spec.

* test(react-ui): make the chat history sync specs deterministic

- "clear all persists before navigation" opened a single chat, and the menu
offers no Clear all for one chat, so the spec timed out in every run. It
now opens two unsynced chats and checks that neither survives. Reverting
03cd9c115's save in clearAllChats turns it red again.
- "a delete the server confirmed is not sent again" reopened the page as
soon as the server had the request, before the page had the answer; the
unconfirmed delete was then rightly sent again (4 of 5 runs). It now waits
until the cache holds no pending delete.

Docs-Not-Needed: test-only change.

* fix(chathistory): keep the chat's reasoning effort on the server

reasoningEffort (#12700, #12716) is part of the chat the UI syncs since the
master merge, but schema.Conversation had no field for it, so the server
dropped it and a reload from the server reset the setting. Add the field.

The handler spec that round-trips every chat field now includes
reasoningEffort. A schema test reads serializeChat in useChat.js and fails
for any key the UI sends that schema.Conversation cannot hold, so the next
such drift shows up as a failing test rather than in review (it reports
reasoningEffort on the previous head). Swagger and docs updated.

* test(chat): use Ginkgo for the schema drift guard

The new drift guard uses testing methods forbidden by repository lint.
Keep its field coverage and fail-fast parser checks in Ginkgo/Gomega.

mudler-agentandEttore Di Giacinto 39b3b31153 fix(backends): flag a llama-cpp backend that predates native decisions (#12733)
A decision request (/v1/systemone, /v1/decisions) sends Score with
question_type "systemone". A backend built before native decisions ignores
that field and runs plain scoring, so the caller saw "Score was not enabled"
(500) or "candidates must be non-empty" (400). The gallery "latest" image can
lag behind the server, and the upgrade check compares only tag, version and
digest, so /backends/upgrades did not list the backend.

Recognise those two errors for a decision request, return 501 with a message
that says the backend is older than the server and must be upgraded, and mark
the backend stale. The upgrade check now reports a marked backend with a
`reason`, and refreshes at once. Reinstalling the backend drops the mark; if
the new image is still old, the next request marks it again. Model loading is
not affected.

mudler-agentandEttore Di Giacinto c7ce0c602c fix: stop listing the models directory on request paths and cache GGUF header reads (#12683)
* fix(http): stop listing the models directory on embeddings and bearer requests

Every embeddings request read the whole models directory before the body
was parsed, even when the body named its model. On a network-backed
models directory this cost seconds per request.

Embeddings now binds the body first and looks up a default model only
when the body has none, like chat. The pre-bind default lookup and the
gpt-4o constant default are gone from that route.

The first-available default lookup skips the directory when the filter
cannot accept an unconfigured file. Every usecase filter rejects files
without a config, so the scan never added results for them. Match-all,
nil and name filters keep the scan.

The bearer token check is now an exact test: a configured name, or one
stat of that name in the models directory. The value is a literal, not a
regular expression, and a name that is not a local relative path never
matches a file.

Assisted-by: Claude Code:claude-haiku-5-5

* perf(config): cache GGUF header reads for model defaults

Model defaults re-parsed the GGUF header on every SetDefaults call, which
runs per request and at startup reload. Put a bounded LRU in front of the
parser, keyed by absolute path and validated by size and modification
time. The cached value is a snapshot of the fields the defaults use, not
the parser output.

A changed size or mtime is a miss. Missing files and parse errors are not
cached, so the existing fallback is unchanged. LOCALAI_DISABLE_GUESSING,
the empty-path guard, the alias early return, the panic recovery and the
context-size default are all kept in front of the cache.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-haiku-5-5

* test(http): cover listing-free default lookup on every usecase route

Assisted-by: Claude Code:claude-haiku-5-5

* feat(config): persist the GGUF header cache per instance

The header cache kept parsed GGUF results only in memory, so every restart
parsed each model file again before its defaults were known. Write the cache
to a per-instance file in the data path and load it at startup. A restarted
frontend with a fixed instance ID starts warm.

The file is versioned and records the estimator inputs (gguf-parser version,
candidate contexts, auto context size, offload count). A mismatch on any of
them makes the file ignored. Each entry keeps path, size and mtime, so a
changed model file is a miss on load. Writes run on one background saver,
debounced, through a temp file and rename. The entry bound applies to the
file as well. Without a data path the cache stays in memory only.

Documented as a per-instance exception in the model configuration docs.

* docs(embeddings): document model selection and the no-model error

Assisted-by: Claude Code:claude-haiku-5-5

* refactor(config): split the header cache into a generic cache

The GGUF header cache mixed two things: the mechanics (bounded LRU keyed
by path and identity, per-instance file, debounced atomic save, tolerant
load) and the GGUF fields. Move the mechanics into headerCache[S], driven
by a headerCacheSpec[S] that names the file prefix, schema, fingerprint,
parser and the snapshot encode/decode pair. The GGUF cache becomes one
instance of it.

File names, the identity check, LRU size, debounce, atomic write and the
corruption handling are unchanged. The on-disk JSON keeps the "estimator"
key so existing files still load.

Assisted-by: Claude Code:claude-haiku-5-5

* feat(config): share one GGUF header cache file between frontends

Every frontend used to write its own header cache file, named after its
instance ID, so a header read by one frontend was never reused by another.
The cache now uses one file, header-cache.json, in the data path, for all
frontends and for standalone mode. The instance ID no longer changes the
file name.

Frontends share the file in three ways. A save first merges the file's
entries in, so one frontend's write does not drop another's entries. A
miss reloads the file when its modification time has changed, and a hit
never reads it. Writes go to a temp file that is renamed into place, so a
reader never sees a partial file.

Two frontends saving at the same moment can still drop each other's last
entries. That costs one re-parse, never a wrong value, because every
entry is checked against its model file before use.

The shared file is valid only when every frontend mounts the same data
volume. The distributed-mode and model-configuration docs state this mode
and its volume limit.

Stefan Walcz e3341d21a0 feat(pii): extend a detection over the previous word (extend_to_previous_word)
The mirror of extend_to_next_word. A name model often tags the surname with
high confidence and scores the first name in front of it below min_score,
so "Gast Greta Waldmeister" became "Gast Greta [REDACTED:ner:LASTNAME]".

extend_to_previous_word lists entity groups whose accepted detections also
cover the word directly before them on the same line. The preceding word
must consist of letters (plus '-' and the apostrophe): a word with digits -
an amount, a date, a room number - is never taken, nor is a protected term,
and the search never crosses a line break.

Stefan Walcz e16b9d04cc feat(pii): protected terms that pass the NER filter unchanged
A name model reads many business names as surnames. Measured with
privacy-filter-multilingual on 24 synthetic German receipts and
invoices: the supplier name ("Hotel Seeblick", "Café Lindenhof", ...)
was masked as LASTNAME (0.78-0.98) or FIRSTNAME in 9 of 12 receipts
that carried one. The supplier is exactly what the upstream model needs
to categorise a receipt, and no score floor helps at those confidences.

pii_detection.protected_terms (inline) and
pii_detection.protected_terms_files (files inside the models path, one
term per line, '#' comments, re-read when size or mtime change) list
values that must pass unchanged. Each whole-word, case-insensitive
occurrence is replaced by a neutral placeholder before the detector
runs; every detection is mapped back onto the original text with the
placeholder parts cut out, so a protected term is never masked or
blocked, the detector never sees it as context, and event offsets keep
addressing the original text. A word extension (extend_to_next_word)
is dropped rather than run into a protected term.

Terms shorter than three characters are ignored. A missing or
unreadable file is logged and skipped: fewer protected terms means more
masking, never less. Paths are verified to stay inside the models path.

Opt-in, empty by default. Covered by Ginkgo specs in
core/services/routing/pii/protected_test.go (detector-visible text,
exact restoration, straddling detections, whole-word/case/line-wrap
matching, the segment path, file loading and reload), a YAML round-trip
spec, registry entries and the middleware/model-configuration docs.

Stefan Walcz 9b13408c94 feat(pii): extend a detection over the next word (extend_to_next_word)
Address models tend to tag a postal code with high confidence but miss
or under-score the town right after it. Measured with
privacy-filter-multilingual on 24 synthetic German invoices: the postal
code was masked every time, while the town after it stayed in the clear
in 6 of 18 cases (4 not detected at all, 2 tagged CITY at 0.43/0.47,
below the configured floor). Masking the code alone leaves the pair half
redacted: "[REDACTED:ner:ZIPCODE] Ludwigshafen".

pii_detection.extend_to_next_word lists entity groups whose accepted
detections also cover the word that directly follows them on the same
line, with the same action and group. Horizontal whitespace is skipped,
a line break ends the search, and nothing is extended when no word
follows, so a hit never grows over bare whitespace or onto the next
line (or across the segment separator on the multi-message path).

The option is opt-in and empty by default; existing detector configs
behave exactly as before. Covered by Ginkgo specs in
core/services/routing/pii/extend_test.go (fail without the change), a
YAML round-trip spec, a registry entry for the model editor, and the
middleware and model-configuration docs.

Stefan Walcz bdd66e4b17 fix(routing): keep embedder fingerprint stable across probed reasoning
A chat completion sent to an embedding model whose config sets
use_tokenizer_template runs the thinking probe, and persistProbedReasoning
writes the probed reasoning slots back into the shared model config.
EmbedderFingerprint hashed the whole config, so that single request moved
the fingerprint and every knn router built on the embedder failed with
ErrLiveEmbeddingMismatch (HTTP 503) until LocalAI was restarted.

Reasoning settings never change the embedding space, so leave them out of
the hash.

mudler-agentandEttore Di Giacinto 0e0e91f95c feat(diagnostics): add opt-in profiling (#12610)
* feat(diagnostics): add private opt-in profiler

Keep profiling on a dedicated loopback listener rather than the public API.
Validate settings and bind synchronously so startup reports configuration
and socket failures. Own sampling and shutdown for the run process.

Cover private handlers, blocked cmdline access, sampling cleanup, and
serving failures with focused Ginkgo tests.

Assisted-by: nib:gpt-6-astra

* feat(diagnostics): add sanitized phase timing

Carry generated request and reload identities through private contexts.
Keep timing disabled without allocations and emit only validated fields
at Info level when enabled.

Cover identity isolation, nested durations, inheritance, and sanitized
logging with focused race-tested Ginkgo specs.

Assisted-by: nib:gpt-6-astra

* fix(diagnostics): retain request observations

Reuse an existing request observation across recorders to avoid splitting
correlation. Keep the original context, identity, and sink without new
allocations. Preserve nil-recorder behavior and fresh reload identities.

Verify the regression fails before the fix and passes with the full
Diagnostics race suite afterward.

Assisted-by: nib:gpt-6-astra

* feat(cli): own opt-in diagnostics lifecycle

Expose profiling and phase timing flags without enabling them for debug.
Bind the private profiler before application initialization and propagate
serving failures through the run lifecycle.

Bound signal cleanup and preserve preload-only backend startup. Cover
flag parsing, preload isolation, cancellation, and once-only shutdown.
Document initialization and shutdown cancellation limitations.

Assisted-by: nib:gpt-6-astra

* feat(config): measure filter and reload phases

Separate request lock waits from filtering and held work. Aggregate reload
filesystem and parsing durations without logging inside the config lock.

Preserve caller option execution under the lock after metadata collection.
Extract only the internal diagnostics option before waiting for the lock.
Keep direct callers uninstrumented unless they supply diagnostics options.

Verify focused Diagnostics examples with the race detector, including
option ordering, gated contention, errors, panic propagation, and parity.

Assisted-by: nib:gpt-6-astra

* fix(config): separate early reload observation

Opaque callbacks cannot select timing before their execution point.
Carry the startup recorder explicitly through loader construction.
Apply late options once under the lock and honor composed last writes.
Document early and late phase boundaries and observation identities.

Report malformed gallery syntax as an internal parse failure without
changing strict or non-strict loader returns.

Assisted-by: nib:gpt-6-astra

* fix(config): preserve per-model option callbacks

The resolved snapshot suppresses existing callbacks during model defaults,
even when diagnostics are disabled. Pass original options through the
existing defaults pathway without adding diagnostics-driven replay.

Test stateful options with two models in enabled and disabled modes.
Preserve three calls and thread defaults of two and three.

Assisted-by: nib:gpt-6-astra

* feat(model): observe discovery phases

Carry request diagnostics through config and loose-file discovery to
separate directory enumeration from in-memory filtering and fallback.
Keep existing APIs as background-context wrappers and preserve discovery
policies, ordering, duplicates, errors, and filesystem operation counts.

Add focused parity, privacy, phase, and disabled-allocation tests.
The focused diagnostics race gate passes for model and galleryop.

Assisted-by: nib:gpt-6-astra

* feat(http): observe extraction phases

Generate diagnostic identity before request discovery, independently of
client correlation headers. End each extraction segment before inference
so downstream latency does not inflate discovery measurements.

Carry observations through discovery helpers and rebuilt request contexts
without changing cancellation or model selection. Cover disabled parity,
error outcomes, privacy, concurrent identity isolation and route contexts.

Assisted-by: nib:gpt-6-astra

* fix(http): retain diagnostics across failover

Failover restores its entry request before retrying. Initialize the
observation before that capture so direct extraction retains one ID.
Keep extraction spans per attempt and end them before downstream work.

Exercise two real targets without default middleware, including replay,
shared identity, phase boundaries, and timing-off response parity.

Assisted-by: nib:gpt-6-astra

* feat(model): observe initialization and routing

Mark loader entry before cache and admission checks. Measure only the
ModelRouter callback, without attributing transport or worker latency.

Test inherited identity and sanitized events with fake backends. Exercise
the actual Echo router to keep profiles private across debug and timing
options. Cover capture shutdown, forced close, and lifecycle failures.

Assisted-by: nib:gpt-6-astra

* docs(diagnostics): guide bounded investigations

Document private profiling, sampling ownership, and phase boundaries so
operators can interpret captures without assuming request attribution.
Add Ginkgo drift checks for flags, defaults, phases, links, and capture
warnings. These checks do not certify the operator prose.

The focused documentation race test passes after four expected failures.
The consolidated Diagnostics race gate passes across all eight packages.
This gate does not validate the full suite, auth, or production UI.

Assisted-by: nib:gpt-6-astra

* refactor(cli): restore inline run lifecycle

Remove diagnostic startup hooks so application startup stays readable
in Run. Keep the profiler as an optional sidecar with bounded cleanup
and an error watcher, without a general lifecycle runner.

Replace hook simulations with real CLI startup checks and component
capture tests. Document that application cleanup can exceed the
private listener budget.

The eight-package Diagnostics race gate passes. A cleanup mutation
fails the real CLI listener-release regression as expected.

Assisted-by: nib:gpt-6-astra

* fix(cli): retain concurrent startup errors

Cancellation must not hide a public API bind failure. Join the public
serve result, cancellation cause, and HTTP shutdown errors inline.
Ignore ErrServerClosed only after intentional shutdown.

Exercise real startup with an occupied API port and a failed private
listener. Isolate the Linux socket fixture in a subprocess and wait
for cancellation acknowledgment without timing sleeps.

Assisted-by: nib:gpt-6-astra

* refactor(http): make request context primary

Move context preparation into the request extractor. Diagnostics remain
an optional addition, not the entry point for request processing.
Preserve context initialization before failover captures the request.

mudler-agentandEttore Di Giacinto 895d50385f fix(distributed): converge model configs across frontends (#12558)
* fix(galleryop): announce model changes before the preload

After a gallery install or delete, the replica that ran it replaced its
config loader, then preloaded every installed model, and only then
published the models invalidation. The preload does remote lookups and
checksums for each model, so on a large models directory peers learned
about the change minutes after the originator listed it. When the
preload failed or the operation was cancelled, the event was never sent.

Publish the invalidation, and apply the delete lifecycle, as soon as
the loader holds the new set. The preload still runs afterwards with
its own error handling. Its failure is reported on the operation, but
it no longer rolls back a deletion that peers have already applied.

Assisted-by: Claude Code:claude-opus-5-5
Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* fix(distributed): resync model configs from the models directory

Frontends refresh their model configs only when a models invalidation
arrives on NATS. NATS keeps no history, so a frontend that is
disconnected when the message is published never applies the change.
It keeps serving the old config, for example an alias that points at
the previous model, until some later change happens to touch it.

Each frontend now reruns the peer reconcile against the shared models
directory after every NATS reconnect, and every
--model-config-resync-interval (default 30s) when a config file
changed. The pass names no model, so only models whose file changed
get a revision transition, and an unchanged directory costs one read
of the config files.

The reconcile replaced the whole loader with a parse of the models
directory, which dropped models loaded with --config-file and
published a deletion revision for them. Configs defined outside the
directory are now kept, both there and after a gallery install.

* fix(nodes): stop stale frontends from retargeting alias rules

A scheduling rule keyed by an alias derives its target from the alias
mapping of the frontend that reads it. Every frontend keeps its own
copy of the model configs, so after an alias is repointed a frontend
that has not reloaded it still resolves the old target. Two frontends
then rewrote the rule's stored target_model against each other on
alternate reconciler ticks, and the outdated one scaled up the model
the alias used to point at.

The registry already records the accepted config revision of each
model. A frontend now derives a rule's target from its own alias
mapping only when its config revision for the rule's name matches
that record. Otherwise it keeps the stored target_model: it neither
writes the column nor reconciles replicas of the old target. The check
reads the database only for a rule whose stored and derived targets
differ. With no accepted revision on record, the old behaviour stays.

localai-org-maint-botandEttore Di Giacinto 217038d4fe fix(agents): share the collection list across frontends (#12536)
With the PostgreSQL vector engine, each frontend kept the collections it
had opened in an in-memory map and answered "collection not found" for
any other. A collection created through one frontend was unknown to the
others until they restarted, and each frontend listed a different set.

Wrap the in-process collections backend in distributed mode so that the
database is the source of truth:

- lists come from the registry,
- a lookup miss checks the registry before it returns 404, and opens a
collection that exists there (once per name, even under concurrency),
- a cached collection that left the registry is dropped and closed, with
  a re-check at most every 5 seconds,
- create and reset publish an event on the existing collection
invalidation subject, so other frontends re-check at once.

Without the postgres engine, or outside distributed mode, nothing changes.

Ettore Di Giacinto a2c498359b fix(voice): keep one voice store per embedding dimension
The in-memory local-store rejects vectors of another size than the ones
it holds. With 192-value voices registered, adding a 256-value voice
failed, and identifying with a 256-value probe returned an error.

The registry now keeps one store per embedding dimension. The first
dimension seen uses the configured store name, so single-encoder
instances are unchanged. Later dimensions use "<name>-<dim>". Identify
searches only the store of the probe size and returns no match when no
voice of that size exists. Forget finds the store from the stored
embedding. A name may hold one voice per encoder.

Assisted-by: Codex:gpt-5

* feat(gallery): add native decision family defaults

Assisted-by: OpenAI:API-assistant

* fix(router): classify images before media fetching

Preserve ordered structured probes for native decisions. Defer OpenAI
media preparation until routing selects the served model, so rejected
decision URLs cannot trigger downloads before shared validation.

Guard direct image collection with context-aware shared admission.
Keep text classifiers and embedding caches from discarding image input.
Retain fail-closed classifier configuration and runtime fallback policy.

Add middleware, typed-content, admission, cancellation and cache tests.

Assisted-by: OpenAI:API-assistant

* fix(router): bound extraction before serialization

Count JSON escaping so oversized internal inputs fail before allocation.

Preserve typed Anthropic blocks through selected-model conversion and
fallback. Keep retry coverage in Ginkgo without global test registration.

Assisted-by: OpenAI

* fix(router): bound supported probe serialization

Arbitrary structs can bypass the probe budget through pointer marshalers,
string tags, and promoted fields. Accept concrete chat schema types and
plain JSON values instead of emulating arbitrary struct serialization.

Budget escaped direct prompts before marshaling so raw length cannot hide
serialized expansion. Preserve runtime fallback and reject oversized
input before invoking the decision runner.

Add Ginkgo allocation, boundary, and marshaler invocation regressions.
Six-package tests, three-package race tests, and full-T2 delta lint pass.

Assisted-by: OpenAI:GPT-5 golangci-lint

* feat(decisions): enable bounded OpenJev images

Validate native decision images before permissive media parsing and pixel
allocation. Require both decision image support and a vision projector;
missing or audio-only projectors cannot silently become text decisions.

Pin the OpenJev Q8 projector and document its license and disk footprint.
Add native safety tests, canonical limit parity, gallery and load-option
checks, and a reproducible CPU direct-RPC contrasting-image smoke.

backend mappings and loaded processes cannot affect mixed suite order.

* test(decisions): isolate fixture globals

Disable optional global services in the isolated HTTP fixture and register
cleanup before setup assertions. Verify meter provider identity survives
fixture creation and destruction.

Snapshot observed usage before assertions so failures cannot retain the
mutex. Require a successful usage stamp before checking error responses.

* fix(application): honor optional telemetry controls

Skip failover gauge registration when metrics are disabled. Register
against the application meter rather than looking up the global provider.

Allow embedders to retain the bounded routing log without billing stats.
Keep the existing default when stats are disabled. The isolated HTTP
fixture uses this option without losing its native router assertions.

* feat(messaging): add Broadcaster and enforce subject rules in every carrier

Broadcaster is the fan-out half of MessagingClient. The NATS client and
the in-memory FakeBus now refuse a subject outside the served roots and any
wildcard other than a whole single token, and FakeBus shares MatchSubject
instead of its own copy. FakeBus Unsubscribe now removes its own
subscription instead of the first one with the same subject.

A shared conformance suite in messagingtest runs against both carriers.
The distributed e2e specs that used invented test.* subjects, and the one
that subscribed with a > filter, now use subjects from subjects.go.

* refactor: depend on Broadcaster where only publish and subscribe are used

Narrowed to messaging.Broadcaster: nodes/staging_progress.go,
nodes/install_progress_publisher.go, galleryop/operation.go,
galleryop/service.go, agentpool/user_services.go, agentpool/agent_jobs.go,
openresponses/store.go, openresponses/sync.go, syncstate/syncstate.go,
finetune/service.go, quantization/service.go and
failover/distsync/distsync.go. SubscribeJSON now takes a Broadcaster
because it only calls Subscribe, which lets the narrowed consumers use it.

Stayed wide: worker/supervisor.go, because its client field also serves
the SubscribeReply handlers in worker/lifecycle.go. The request/reply,
queue and wiring files (nodes/unloader.go, nodes/file_stager_s3.go,
jobs/dispatcher.go, agents/dispatcher.go, agents/events.go,
worker/file_staging.go, cli/agent_worker.go, http/app.go) are unchanged by
design.

* refactor(nodes): name the no-route condition and confine the carrier error

Consumers matched nats.ErrNoResponders, which names an absence, to demote a node. They now match ErrNoRoute, the control path maps the carrier's failure onto it, and timeouts and worker refusals are pinned as not being no-route.

* fix(agent-worker): refuse an unserved LOCALAI_AGENT_SUBJECT at startup

The messaging client now refuses a subject whose root no carrier serves.
An agent worker started with a custom LOCALAI_AGENT_SUBJECT such as
tenant-a.agent.execute used to start and then wait on a subject the
frontend never publishes to. After the subject rules landed it exited
at subscribe time with an error that did not name the setting.

Behaviour change: the worker now checks LOCALAI_AGENT_SUBJECT before it
registers or connects, and exits with an error that names the variable
and says to use a served subject under the agent root, for example
agent.execute. The served roots are not widened: a custom root was
never delivered by the frontend, and a wider set would reopen the
drift the subject rules exist to close. The flag help and the agent
worker docs state the constraint.

* test(nodes): pin the reactions to ErrNoRoute

Three callers react to ErrNoRoute and had no spec: the reconciler's
upgrade drain falls back to the legacy forced install, the reconciler
marks the node unhealthy when a pending op has no route, and the
backend-op fan-out marks the node unhealthy. Each spec drives the real
caller with a scripted no-responders reply and reads the result from
the registry or the recorded requests.

A fourth spec pins the other side: a pending op that times out leaves
the node healthy and only counts the attempt, so mapping timeouts onto
ErrNoRoute would fail here.

* test(messaging): pin client subject checks and fail the carrier suite in CI

Add specs that call Publish, Request, Subscribe, QueueSubscribe,
SubscribeReply and QueueSubscribeReply on a client with no connection.
Each call must return ErrUnservedSubject for bogus.thing and
ErrUnsupportedWildcard for jobs.>. This proves that the subject check
runs before the connection is used, and needs no server.

The NATS conformance suite is the only check that runs the subject rules
against a real carrier. Before this change it skipped without output
when Docker was missing. Now it fails when CI is set, so a Linux runner
without Docker cannot hide it. It still skips on local runs and on macOS
CI, which has no Docker.

Add SubjectNodeBackendInstallProgress to the list of constructors that
must build served subjects, and ask contributors to extend the list.

* docs: state what ErrNoRoute may change, and group the distributed guides

The seams note said MarkUnhealthy was the only state change allowed
on ErrNoRoute. A pending backend op still records the failed attempt,
counts toward the reconciler's retry limit and is dead-lettered after
the maximum attempts. The note now says that MarkUnhealthy is the only
change to the node's own state, and that the per-op accounting is not
a verdict about the node.

The note also documents that the NATS conformance run fails under CI
when Docker is missing. The distributed-seams row moves next to the
distributed-state row in the topics table. The liveness ping spec
header now says no route is a reason to skip the worker, not proof
that the worker is gone.

* refactor(http): proxy backend logs through the per-node worker dialer

The admin backend-logs proxy (list, lines and the WebSocket stream) now reaches a worker through the same per-node dialer as the HTTP file stager, so every frontend-to-worker dial goes through one seam. The shared direct dialer keeps alive for 15s where the proxy used 30s. Harmless for requests bounded at 15s.

* fix(http): keep the backend-logs proxy independent of the admin connection

* refactor: move the worker control payloads to workerctl

Mechanical move of the request and reply structs, the install progress event and the file payloads out of messaging. The verbs no longer belong to one carrier. No alias is left behind.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-sonnet-5-5

* refactor(worker): serve the lifecycle verbs through a controlServer

The worker registers one handler per verb and a NATS server maps each verb to its subject. Registration errors now name the verb. node.stop is served with SubscribeReply, which is identical on the wire because the handler never replies.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-sonnet-5-5
Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* refactor(worker): report install progress through the control sink

Install and upgrade now emit download progress through the sink the control server hands them. The debounce and the terminal flush stay in the handler path, built over that sink by the new nodes.NewDebouncedInstallProgressSink, which replaces NewDebouncedInstallProgressPublisher. The subject and payload on the wire are unchanged. The supervisor no longer holds the bus, and installFn and upgradeFn let specs drive both verbs without a gallery.

The malformed-request log lines are restored for install, upgrade, backend.delete, model.unload, model.stop and model.delete, with the reply bytes unchanged. The signal adapter is renamed noReply, which also lets worker.go import os/signal without an alias again.

* refactor(worker): serve the file-staging verbs through a controlServer

An empty list-dir answer is now {} rather than {"files":null}, because the typed reply omits an empty Files slice. The frontend decodes both to a nil slice in nodes/file_stager_s3.go.

* feat(messaging): add WorkQueue and the NATS producer

This is the producer side of the competing-consumer seam. The work kinds map one to one to today's subjects and queue groups: task to jobs.new and mcp-ci to jobs.mcp-ci.new (both in group workers), agent-run to agent.execute (group agent-workers). Enqueue publishes the payload as Publish does today, with one JSON marshal. FakeBus now records queue groups and keeps reply handlers so later specs can pin and drive them.

* feat(messaging): add the NATS WorkConsumer

An in-flight limit of one runs the handler inline on the delivery goroutine, as the MCP CI consumer does today. Any other limit spawns per delivery, as the agent consumer does. Queue groups are unchanged.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-sonnet-5-5
Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* refactor: publish queued work through WorkQueue

The job dispatcher, the agent pool and the agent scheduler enqueue through messaging.WorkQueue; the NATS implementation publishes to the same subjects as before. DistributedServices builds the queue next to the NATS client and hands it to the dispatcher and the agent pool, whose distributed mode switch now reads a non-nil WorkQueue. The unused AgentPoolService.SetNATSClient is removed.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-sonnet-5-5
Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* refactor: consume queued work through WorkConsumer

The agent dispatcher and the MCP CI consumer register through messaging.WorkConsumer. The NATS implementation keeps the inline one-at-a-time model for MCP CI and the per-delivery model for agent runs. handleMCPCIJob reports on the events publisher the carrier hands it instead of a captured client.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-sonnet-5-5
Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* refactor: delete the consumers nothing in production reached

jobs.new has a producer and no production consumer, and the agent dispatcher's Dispatch was only called from tests. Publishing jobs.new is unchanged.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-sonnet-5-5
Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* refactor(mcp): send MCP requests to agent workers through AgentControl

Timeouts still honour only the deadline, not cancellation, exactly as today. The NATS no-responders error maps to ErrNoRoute and a timeout does not.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-sonnet-5-5
Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* refactor(agent-worker): serve MCP requests and backend.stop through agentRPCServer

The agent worker's MCP tool and discovery reply subscriptions and its backend stop listener move behind an unexported agentRPCServer interface, served on NATS by nodes.NATSAgentRPCServer. The handlers become typed mcp.ToolHandler and mcp.DiscoveryHandler values that answer every failure with a reply carrying Error.

Queue group (agent-workers), inline execution on the delivery goroutine, the background handler context, the unmarshal error reply texts and the reply-less backend stop subscription are unchanged. The backend stop handler takes the decoded backend name, so it can still close that backend's MCP sessions.

* refactor(messaging): remove helpers that only tests used

BroadcastRoots, ControlRoots and SubjectRoot had no production caller. The roots spec now asserts every served root through ValidateSubject instead. MatchSubject moves back into the test support package, the only place that used it, with its table. NATSAgentRPCServer drops the subscription list it stored and never read, and NewNATSAgentRPCServer gets a doc comment.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-sonnet-5-5

* test(mcp): round trip the agent RPC server over a real NATS server

One spec sends a tool request and a discovery request through NATSAgentControl to NATSAgentRPCServer and checks that the handlers see the decoded requests and the replies come back. It also puts an undecodable body on the tool subject and checks the server answers with an unmarshal error instead of leaving the requester to time out.

* docs: describe the distributed transport seams

The developer note now lists the final seams: fan-out, queues, both halves of the control verbs and of agent RPC, and the dial. It records the open items a second carrier has to handle.

* test: pin the in-flight limit each queue consumer asks for

The work queue specs pin what Consume does for a given limit, but nothing
pinned which limit each production consumer passes. Changing the agent
worker's MCP CI limit from 1 to 0 would have let MCP CI jobs run
concurrently on each worker with every test green.

Move the MCP CI Consume call into startMCPCIConsumer with the same wiring
and pin that it asks for (WorkMCPCI, 1). Pin that NATSDispatcher.Start asks
for (WorkAgentRun, maxConcurrent) for several limits.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-sonnet-5-5

* refactor: remove helpers the branch left without a caller

SubjectJobCancelWildcard lost its last subscriber when the frontend
stopped listening on jobs.*.cancel; the NATS permissions and conformance
suite spell the subject out, so nothing reads the constant.

decodeBackendStopRequest returned a stopAll flag that production dropped
and only a test read. decodeBackendStop is now the single decoder with the
same semantics: an empty body is stop-all, an empty Backend is stop-all,
malformed JSON is an error. stopBackends still derives stop-all from
Backend, so no reply changes.

* fix(messaging): keep an explicitly empty agent queue a plain subscription

Before the work queue seam the agent worker passed LOCALAI_AGENT_QUEUE
straight to QueueSubscribe, so an explicitly empty value made a plain
subscription and every agent worker ran every agent run.
WithAgentRunRoute replaced an empty queue with agent-workers, which
silently changed that.

Keep the queue as given once the option is applied. An empty subject still
falls back to agent.execute, since it never had a meaning of its own. The
flag default stays agent-workers, so only an explicitly empty value
reaches this.

* docs: correct comments and record the PR B notes

Fix the recordingFactory comment (it also records the parallel flag),
document that a negative maxInFlight is unbounded and that Unsubscribe from
a handler deadlocks, and say a permanently undecodable payload returns nil.

Record controlHandler's undecodable return as a kept exception, and add the
second carrier notes to the developer note: the reconciler has no
ClientFactory option, the logs proxy honours HTTP_PROXY, verbs one carrier
serves need an opt-out, terminal replies come from the result event, and
agent runs publish through the NATS-bound EventBridge, which is not an
additive change.

mudler-agentandEttore Di Giacinto 97ad8f1d70 fix(distributed): stage the files a model install declares (#12309)
* fix(distributed): stage every shard of a split GGUF

A split GGUF is configured by its first shard only. llama.cpp opens the
other "-0000N-of-0000M.gguf" files from the same directory by name. The
router staged only the configured path, so the worker received shard 1
and the load failed with "failed to load GGUF split".

The router now stages the remaining shards next to the first one. A
missing shard fails the load and names the file. The file count for
progress and the payload size also include all shards. The payload size
feeds the load deadline and the disk-headroom check. For a 111 GB model
whose first shard is 10 MB, both were sized for less than 1 GB.

* fix(distributed): stage the files a model install declares

Replace the split GGUF file name matching with the model's own file
list. A gallery install or an import records every file of the model in
._gallery_<name>.yaml (files:), and a config can list more under
download_files:. The router now stages all of these files, not only the
files that the config's path fields name. This includes the other
shards of a split GGUF, which llama.cpp opens by name.

The application gives the router a resolver that reads the two lists.
The resolver looks up the files by model name when it stages them, so a
replica that the reconciler loads from saved load options gets the same
files. backend.proto does not change.

A declared file that is missing on the frontend is skipped with a
warning. The load deadline and the disk headroom check include the
declared files.

Ettore Di Giacinto e59fb854ee fix(failover): free the leader lock soon after the leader's host dies
A leader whose host died without closing its connection kept the
advisory lock for about two hours of OS keepalive defaults, and no other

Ettore Di Giacinto 5d2b90b848 fix(failover): never load a warm target inside a probe
A warm target's liveness probe called ModelLoader.Load, which blocked
until the model finished loading (while the warm preload loaded it
too). Tick waited for every probe, so all probing froze, and the probe
then ran HealthCheck on an expired context and tripped the target at
every startup.

The prober now takes a function that returns the running backend
without loading it. A target that is not loaded passes liveness; its
recovery is neither confirmed nor failed and it returns to healthy
after min_dwell, like a cold target. Tick no longer waits for probes:
each probe applies its own result and a target whose probe is running
is skipped.

mudler-agentandEttore Di Giacinto 543fb4bd24 fix(gallery): verification follow-ups for oci:// galleries (#12243)
* fix(gallery): verification follow-ups for oci:// galleries

Follow-ups from the post-merge review of #12238 and #12239.

Only a policy decision is a refusal now. cosignverify wraps
ErrPolicyRejected around a failed signature check, an identity or
source-repository mismatch, a not_before cutoff and a missing or
unparseable bundle. A TUF, registry or network failure during
verification, or a timeout, is an outage: the gallery falls back to the
copy verified under the current policy, as it does when the registry is
down.

An oci:// gallery with a verification block, or any oci:// gallery under
strict integrity, is no longer answered by an https://, github: or
file:// mirror. Such a mirror is ignored with a warning, because nothing
can check its signature. The index of an HTTP gallery, whose policy only
covers its backend images, is cached under the URL-only name again, so no
unchecked body is stored under a policy-keyed name.

The in-memory index cache key now includes the policy. After a runtime
policy change the index is fetched again, and entries with a relative url
install again.

The registry digest lookups after install and upgrade, and in the
upgrade check, run only for real registry references (new
URI.LooksLikeRegistryOCI), not for ollama:// or ocifile://.

The refusal message names strict integrity when that is the cause, and
the gallery name is no longer repeated.

Specs pin the URL-only cache name for galleries without a policy, a fixed
key for a fixed policy, and that every GalleryVerification field changes
the key. The docs describe refusal, outage, mirrors and strict integrity.

* fix(gallery): reset listings on gallery changes, classify referrer outages

Review follow-ups for this PR.

The React UI lists from AvailableGalleryModelsCached, which is keyed by
nothing. A gallery change through the settings API or a
runtime_settings.json edit now drops that listing when the model or
backend gallery configuration differs. Before, the UI kept the old list,
with local paths into the old policy's tree, until the next background
refresh, or for good when the new policy refused the gallery.

In cosignverify, a referrer the registry fails to serve now makes the
lookup an outage whatever other referrers failed and in any order, since
the unread one may be the valid signature. An invalid policy (Validate in
NewVerifier, an unparseable not_before) is ErrPolicyRejected, because no
fetch can make it usable.

The docs say that only an oci:// gallery with a verification block skips
non-OCI mirrors, and list an unusable policy as a refusal.

Adira Denis Muhando 869000ceb7 fix(distributed): exclude pinned models from cluster eviction and idle scale-down
pinned: true was only honoured by the per-node watchdog. Every distributed
eviction path was pinned-blind: the router's LRU eviction (EvictLRU,
evictLRUAndFreeNode) and the replica reconciler's idle scale-down would
happily unload a pinned model — and since eviction is gated on
in_flight = 0, a pinned model became eviction-eligible the instant each
response completed. Under capacity pressure that surfaces as the backend
being freed immediately after every request (#11101).

Wire the model config loader into the router and reconciler through a new
PinnedModelResolver seam (mirroring ConcurrencyConflictResolver):

- EvictLRU passes the pinned set into FindLRUModel's query so the
next-oldest unpinned model is selected instead of the attempt failing
- evictLRUAndFreeNode filters pinned models inside its locked selection
- scaleDownIdle skips pinned models entirely: trimming to the floor still
means requests beyond the survivor's capacity pay a cold reload

Deliberate teardown (admin unload, model delete, node drain) intentionally
still applies to pinned models, as does dead-row reaping (state correction,
not eviction).

Regression specs verified to fail with the exclusion disabled.

localai-org-maint-botandEttore Di Giacinto 9afe10ba21 fix(distributed): survive a slow control-plane database (#11837)
* fix(distributed): evict only when a node is known to be full

scheduleNewModel asked the registry for a free replica slot and treated
every error as "this node is full", so a control-plane database slow
enough to time out the lookup evicted a healthy loaded model. The
evicted process died, a peer frontend still holding its address dialled
the dead port and retried, and the model thrashed between nodes. The
comment on the branch already said it meant a full node; the code never
tested for it.

Evict only on ErrNoFreeSlot. Any other error now returns and names the
lookup that failed, so a slow database degrades into a diagnosable
load failure instead of into lost work.

An audit of the rest of the router found one branch of the same shape:
node selection discarded the error from its last-resort finder, so a
database timeout there also produced a nil node and evicted for it.
That path now returns unless the finder said gorm.ErrRecordNotFound,
which is the only answer that means the cluster had no node to give.
No other destructive branch in router.go fires on a generic error.

* fix(distributed): checkpoint heartbeat writes instead of writing every beat

Every heartbeat UPDATEd backend_nodes. Six nodes at a ten second beat is
roughly 52,000 writes a day against a six-row table, and that churn is
what turned a blocked autovacuum into a 460 MB table whose six-row scan
cost 867 ms and timed out the queries that place models.

A beat carrying only a fresher timestamp now waits for the checkpoint
interval. Each reported field is compared against the value last
persisted rather than tested for presence, because a worker sends its
disk figures on every beat and presence alone would suppress nothing.
A node's first beat, a changed total VRAM, total disk or GPU vendor,
and a free VRAM, RAM or disk reading that has moved more than 256 MiB
from the persisted value all still write at once. A node that is not
active is never suppressed, because it recovers only when the health
monitor sees a fresh timestamp.

The persisted column is up to one interval stale by design, so the
stale-node threshold moves from 60s to 5m to cover it.

* fix(distributed): fail worker readiness when a held backend is unreachable

The readiness gate tracked only the NATS link, so a worker whose backend
processes had died still answered /readyz with 200 and kept receiving
loads. One node did exactly that during an incident: it reported healthy
while its backend port refused connections, and every load routed to it
failed.

Readiness is now the NATS link and, for each backend process the worker
believes it is running, a short dial of its recorded address. A worker
holding no backends stays ready, because idle is a healthy state.

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* fix(distributed): keep a starting backend out of the readiness dial set

A backend process is inserted into the supervisor map with its gRPC
address already recorded, but the address refuses connections until the
gRPC server binds, which the startup poll allows up to 30 seconds for and
which takes 10 to 15 seconds on a slow node. The new data-path readiness
probe dialled that address straight away, so a worker answered /readyz
with 503 for the whole of every cold backend start. The container
HEALTHCHECK absorbs that, but a Kubernetes readinessProbe at 10s does
not, and the worker would leave rotation each time it loaded a model.

The skip for a stopping process had no counterpart at the other end of
the lifecycle. Backend processes now carry a serving flag, set where the
startup health-check gate succeeds, and the probe dials only processes
that are serving and not yet stopping. backendStartStillValid becomes
markBackendServing: the check and the mark must share one lock hold, so
the flag can only ever land on the entry the key currently owns.

* feat(distributed): export control-plane database health gauges

Four transactions wedged on a corrupt index held the vacuum horizon open
for 42 days. Nothing measured it, so the first symptom anyone saw was
models failing to load six weeks later, by which time a six-row table
had grown to 460 MB.

Export the oldest xmin age, the longest open transaction, and the dead
tuple ratio on the registry tables. The first is the number that would
have caught it: it sits near zero in health and was 21,002,291.

Sampling is scrape-driven behind a cache, and a failed sample reports
the last good values rather than failing the scrape, because these
gauges matter most when the database is already struggling.

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* fix(distributed): rate-limit failed control-plane database samples

The cache advanced its clock only on a successful sample, so once the
database started failing every scrape retried the query immediately.
That turned the cache off in the one regime it exists for: a retry
storm at scrape cadence aimed at a database already in trouble. A
catalog read that consistently exceeds the 5 second timeout also paid
that cost on every scrape, with all scrapes serialised behind the
sampler mutex.

Time every attempt rather than every success, so failures and timeouts
cost the same interval as good samples. Whether a good sample exists
moves to its own field, keeping the gauges absent until the first
success and holding the last good values through later failures.

Also note in the runbook that pg_stat_activity cannot see prepared
transactions or replication slot xmins, so a healthy-looking xmin age
does not by itself rule out a blocked horizon.

* test(distributed): pin that a failing database evicts nothing

Exercises the real distributed stack against a control-plane database that
refuses the router's slot lookup, and asserts the scheduler reports the
lookup it could not answer instead of falling through to eviction.

The failure is injected with privileges rather than a statement timeout. A
timeout set with ALTER DATABASE also breaks AutoMigrate, and it leaks into
every later spec in the suite unless it is reset, so the spec would end up
testing the migration rather than the scheduler. Instead the spec creates a
dedicated login role, points a second gorm handle at it, and revokes that
role's SELECT on node_models.replica_index. This has to be a separate role:
the test container's owner is a PostgreSQL superuser, and superusers bypass
every privilege check, so revoking from CURRENT_USER is recorded and then
ignored.

The revoke is scoped to one column on purpose. Revoking the whole table
would also blind node selection, which runs first and has a guard of its
own, so the scheduler would never reach the slot lookup this spec is about.
Leaving every other column readable lets selection succeed and lands the
refusal exactly on NextFreeReplicaIndex, which plucks replica_index. The
grant is restored from BeforeEach via DeferCleanup, so a failing assertion
or a panic cannot hand the next spec a role that cannot read.

Reverting the eviction guard fails this spec, which is the point of it: the
router then reports "no replica slot on keeper and eviction failed" for an
error that was never evidence the node was full. The surviving-row
assertions are secondary under this injection, because the eviction path
reads whole node_models rows and the same revoke blinds it too; a comment
in the spec says so, so nobody mistakes them for the load-bearing ones.

Also documents why the vector store and the control plane must not share a
database: the removable-tuple cutoff is per database, not per table, so one
transaction left open anywhere stops autovacuum reclaiming the node
registry, and a six-row table bloats into hundreds of megabytes. The note
names LOCALAI_AUTH_DATABASE_URL and LOCALAI_AGENT_POOL_DATABASE_URL as the
two knobs that must differ, and the localai_control_plane_oldest_xmin_age
gauge as the way to see it coming.

grep for StaleNodeThreshold and HealthCheckInterval in
core/config/runtime_settings_registry.go returns no matches: the
distributed duration knobs are not exposed as runtime settings, so the new
heartbeat checkpoint interval follows them and needs no registry entry.

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* fix(distributed): close the review gaps in the heartbeat and health path

The stale-node threshold moved from 60 seconds to 5 minutes in this branch
because checkpointing makes last_heartbeat up to one checkpoint interval
behind by design. Two things were left inconsistent with that. NewHealthMonitor
still fell back to a hardcoded 60 seconds when handed a zero threshold, so any
future caller that stopped passing the configured value would mark every
healthy, beating node offline on every cycle. And the threshold itself had a
flag-name constant but no AppOption, no CLI field and no env binding, so an
operator who widened --node-heartbeat-checkpoint had no way to widen the
threshold to match. The fallback now tracks config.DefaultStaleNodeThreshold,
and --stale-node-threshold / LOCALAI_STALE_NODE_THRESHOLD is wired the same
way its sibling is.

Heartbeat suppression compared the RAW reported free VRAM against the
snapshot, but the column persists capAvailable(raw, ceiling). On any node with
a VRAM budget set, whose actual free VRAM oscillates above that ceiling, every
beat looked material while the persisted value never moved: suppression was
defeated on exactly the nodes an operator had configured, and the write
amplification this branch exists to remove came straight back there. The
comparison and the snapshot now both hold the capped figure, so they measure
the same quantity as the column.

Fixing that needs the ceiling, and reading it cost a SELECT on every beat,
including suppressed ones. The skip decision therefore moved ahead of the
updates map and now reuses the ceiling cached on the last durable write, while
the write path still re-reads it before capping anything. A ceiling that
changed inside the checkpoint window can cost one extra or one late write; it
cannot persist a wrong figure. A suppressed beat now costs no query at all.

Also: the operations section now says to grant pg_read_all_stats to the
LocalAI role, because PostgreSQL blanks backend_xmin and xact_start for
sessions owned by other roles, and the transaction that wedged the horizon in
the incident was a co-located vector store connecting as a different role, so
without the grant the new gauge sees only our own sessions. The compose
healthcheck comment now describes readiness covering the backend data path,
and the control-plane gauge registration records the otel.SetMeterProvider
ordering it depends on.

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* fix(distributed): resolve the gauge's table names through gorm

The dead-tuple gauge queried pg_stat_user_tables against a hardcoded list
of three table names. Those three do not agree on where their name comes
from: BackendNode and NodeModel take gorm's default pluralisation, while
GalleryOperationRecord overrides TableName, and gallery_operations
already had a constant of its own that the list duplicated.

A literal list keeps compiling after any of that moves, and the query
then matches nothing. The failure is silent and it points the wrong way:
a dead-tuple ratio that matched no rows reports the same numbers as a
cluster with no bloat, so the gauge would look healthiest exactly when it
had stopped working.

Ask gorm what each model is stored as instead, which follows a TableName
override and the default pluralisation alike. A spec pins that the
override really is consulted: naive pluralisation of the type would give
gallery_operation_records, so the resolution cannot quietly stop asking
the model.

mudler's LocalAI [bot]andEttore Di Giacinto 80e3240f2d feat(distributed): key scheduling rules by a model alias (#11771)
Node placement and replica rules could only name a model, so an operator
who pinned "llama3" to the GPU tier had to rewrite the rule whenever a
different model took over that job. An alias already gives a stable name
for whichever model serves it, and a rule on that name makes it a
deployment slot: repoint the alias and the placement follows.

A rule keeps the name the operator chose. Reads resolve that name through
the config loader to the model the rule governs, so the reconciler counts,
schedules and trims replicas of the target, and the router finds an
alias-keyed rule from the target it is already routing. An alias that
resolves to nothing governs nothing loadable, so the reconciler skips it
and the write paths refuse it.

A replica is shared by every name that resolves to it, so only one rule
can decide where it runs. The REST and MCP write paths reject a rule whose
target another rule already governs. A pair that arrives some other way,
such as a seed file or an alias repointed onto a model that already has a
rule, resolves in favour of the rule named after the model itself and then
the oldest, and the rest are listed as shadowed.

The eviction guard is the exception: it matches rules to replicas in raw
SQL inside a locking transaction and cannot resolve an alias. It reads a
stored target that the reconciler refreshes each tick, and falls back to
the rule's own name when that target is empty.

Ettore Di Giacinto 505a6d040b fix(distributed): publish the revision a request actually carries
Two code paths computed a model's revision. Inference resolves the
config through the loader, which applies SetDefaults a second time.
Everything that publishes a revision hashed the stored config instead,
with SetDefaults applied once.

SetDefaults is not idempotent for every model: it re-runs the GGUF guess
and the hardware defaults, both of which read state the stored config
does not carry. Where the two disagree, a publisher wrote a revision no
request would ever carry, and the model became unroutable the moment it
was published. On this cluster the startup resync republished one such
value and every request for that model was then rejected against it.

The publishers now resolve the revision through the loader, exactly as a
request does, so there is one definition rather than two that agree only
when SetDefaults happens to be idempotent. This covers the startup
resync, a saved config edit, and enabling or disabling a model.

Ettore Di Giacinto 5c9d8190d9 fix(distributed): resync revisions after the configs are loaded
The resync added in 3953448f6 ran before LoadModelConfigsFromPath, so it
read an empty loader, reconciled nothing and reported success. The
symptom was a stored revision that stayed stale across restarts while
the log showed no complaint, which is exactly what the resync was meant
to prevent.

Move the call after the configs are loaded, and refuse to treat an empty
loader as a clean run: reconciling zero models is indistinguishable from
reconciling correctly, and that is what hid the mis-ordered call.

Ettore Di Giacinto 3953448f60 fix(distributed): resync stored config revisions at startup
The controller pins a model's replicas to a stored revision and rejects
any request carrying a different one. Nothing ever re-derived that value
from the configuration on disk: it moved only on an edit, a gallery
install, or a peer's change broadcast. An inference request may only
establish a revision, never replace one.

So any other way for the two to diverge left the model permanently
unroutable. A configuration edited while a frontend was down lands
there, and so does a change in what the revision is computed over: an
upgrade that alters the hashed form leaves every stored revision
describing a configuration that no longer exists. The only recovery was
deleting the row by hand, which is not something a cluster should need.

Each frontend now reconciles the stored revisions against the loaded
configurations at startup and republishes the ones that disagree. Only
those: republishing quarantines every replica loaded under the old
revision, so doing it for a model that did not drift would unload a
healthy replica for nothing. A model with no stored revision has never
been served and is left for its first request to establish.

Richard Palethorpe d10374f849 feat(router): make KNN a first-class classifier with a persisted, curated corpus (#10652)
* feat(router): make KNN a first-class classifier with a persisted, curated corpus

Add `classifier: knn` — similarity-weighted voting over labelled
example prompts. Unlike score/colbert it needs no classifier model:
label knowledge lives in a corpus seeded and curated through the
admin API, so routing decisions are deterministic, auditable, and
grounded in graded experience rather than a model's opinion.

Epistemic gate: corpus entries below knn.similarity_threshold cannot
vote; when none clears it the classifier activates no labels and the
router uses the fallback — a prompt unlike all labelled experience is
treated as undecidable, not guessed. Decisions record
nearest_similarity (also on fallback rows) so admins can see how far
the nearest labelled experience was; the Routing tab explains
out-of-corpus fallbacks and shows per-label corpus counts.

Persistence: one JSONL file per router under
<data path>/router-corpus (text, labels, vector, embedder
fingerprint). The file is the source of truth; the local-store index
is rebuilt from it at classifier build time and stays a pure
in-memory index. Entries recorded under a different embedding model
re-embed on load. Also corrects the docs' false claim that
local-store collections persist — the embedding cache never survived
restarts (and still doesn't); the corpus does.

Corpus input is API-only by design (entries may contain example user
content): POST /api/router/{name}/corpus seeds (labels validated
against declared policies, embedded server-side, indexed
immediately), GET .../corpus/stats inspects — label counts only,
entry texts are never returned by any surface — DELETE .../corpus
wipes. Admin-gated like the sibling router endpoints, and exposed as
MCP tools (seed_router_corpus / get_router_corpus_stats /
clear_router_corpus) in both the httpapi and inproc clients with
coverage-test route mappings.

Plumbing: VectorStore gains SearchK (top-K was hardcoded to 1);
local-store gets InsertBatch/Delete as optional fast paths;
RouterConfig gains a knn block (embedding_model, k,
similarity_threshold, vote_threshold, store_name) with meta-registry
fields; the classifier dropdown now offers knn and the
previously-missing colbert; embedding_cache is ignored (with a
warning) for knn — it IS an embedding-KNN lookup; the stale
/api/instructions intelligent-routing entry is rewritten (it
described a classifier that no longer exists); swagger regenerated.

Tests: KNN vote/gate specs with hand-computed vote shares, corpus
manager suite (restart reload without re-embedding, fingerprint
re-embed, dedupe, hostile store names), middleware specs (corpus
routing, gate fallback, config validation, cache-wrap refusal),
corpus endpoint specs pinning the texts-never-returned contract, MCP
catalog + route-mapping gates, and a Playwright spec for corpus
stats and the out-of-corpus decision detail.

* feat(router): name consulted corpus neighbours in knn decisions

Every knn decision (decision log rows and the /api/router/decide
response) now carries neighbors: the K retrieved corpus entries by
descending similarity - including ones below the epistemic gate, which
is what makes fallback decisions diagnosable - each as {id, similarity,
labels}. The id is the entry's content hash (first 8 bytes of the
SHA-256 of its text, hex): stable across reseeds and re-embeds, and
text-free, so an external platform that seeded the corpus can recompute
text->id on its own copy and bucket decisions by corpus region (per-
region reliability accounting) without corpus text ever leaving the
server. A corrupt index payload surfaces as an id-less neighbour at a
real similarity instead of disappearing.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-fable-5 [Claude Code]
Signed-off-by: Richard Palethorpe <io@richiejp.com>

* refactor(router): deduplicate knn plumbing and cut corpus hot-path waste

Post-review cleanup of the knn-first-class-router branch; no behaviour
changes on the API surface.

Reuse/altitude:
- RouterKNNConfig.ResolvedStoreName is now the single source of the
router-corpus-<name> default (was hand-derived in four files).
- corpus.ResolveKNNRouter + corpus.Seed carry the shared model
resolution and seed validation; the REST endpoints and the assistant
MCP client are thin transport adapters over them, with sentinel
errors mapped to HTTP statuses at the echo boundary.
- middleware.NewClassifierDeps assembles the classifier dependency set
once for all five entry points (OpenAI, Anthropic, realtime, decide,
corpus) instead of five hand-copied literals.
- router.AllClassifiers feeds both the status endpoint and the
unknown-classifier error, ending the classifier-list drift.
- Per-classifier requirements moved out of validateRouterPolicies into
their buildClassifier arms; the knn arm owns its embedding_cache
opt-out instead of a name-check in the shared wrap tail.
- adminOnly replaces four inline copies of the admin gate in the
  middleware routes.
- localVectorStore.Search delegates to SearchK (identical traces).

Efficiency:
- Manager.Add embeds outside the manager mutex and appends to the
JSONL file (O(new) instead of O(corpus) rewrite); a torn tail from a
crash mid-append is tolerated on read and repaired on next write.
- Stats memoises per store keyed on the file's stat fingerprint and no
longer takes the manager mutex, so the 5s status poll stops parsing
vector-laden JSONL and stops blocking behind seeds.
- KNN Classify decodes each neighbour payload once (was twice) and
builds refs and votes in a single pass with one fallback return.
- Corpus file writes fsync before rename/close.
- The corpus manager is built eagerly in newApplication (sync.Once
dropped); test helper dead branch removed.

* fix(embeddings): scheme override must not inherit the config's half-life

A model config defaulting to decayed_mean pooling carries
pooling_half_life_tokens; a request overriding the scheme to mean/last
without its own half-life inherited that value, and post-merge
validation rejected the pair the server itself had assembled. Zero the
inherited half-life when the overridden scheme is not decayed_mean; a
request that explicitly pairs a half-life with a non-decayed scheme
still 400s.

feat: bound backend admission and expose running traces

Add process-wide backend execution admission without blocking UI or administrative HTTP work. Represent backend operations while they are in flight, surface running traces with immediate log links, and tie streaming admission leases to the gRPC receive lifecycle.

88edd7fc7f fix(distributed): run cold model loads as durable jobs instead of holding the advisory lock (#11514)
* fix(advisorylock): set statement_timeout alongside lock_timeout

WithLockCtx already overrides a deployment-wide lock_timeout on its
dedicated connection so a blocking pg_advisory_lock() waits its turn
instead of failing with 55P03. statement_timeout aborts that exact same
statement independently, with SQLSTATE 57014, and was not overridden.

Production roles commonly carry statement_timeout=60s. Any guarded
section longer than that (a cold model load stages for tens of minutes)
therefore killed every concurrent waiter:

advisorylock: acquiring lock 9003261067483446873: ERROR: canceling
statement due to statement timeout (SQLSTATE 57014)

Derive it from the same context budget as lock_timeout, with a matching
RESET so the pooled connection is returned clean.

* feat(distributed): add ModelLoadJob, the durable cold-load record

A cold load in distributed mode is a long-running background job, but it
was modelled as a synchronous side effect of an inference request: the
whole of it (backend install, multi-GB staging, checkpoint load) ran
inside the per-model advisory lock. Loading a 35.7 GB GGUF held that lock
for ~20 minutes, so every concurrent request for the same model blocked
on pg_advisory_lock and died at the role's 60s statement_timeout.

Introduce the row that lets the lock shrink to a decision. Exactly one
ModelLoadJob may be active per tracking key; that uniqueness — not the
lifetime of a lock — is what de-duplicates concurrent loaders across
replicas. ClaimLoadJob does its read-then-write under the advisory lock
and nothing else: no network, file or gRPC I/O inside the guarded
section, so a claim costs milliseconds no matter how long the resulting
load takes.

LastProgress is a heartbeat rather than a byte counter. A checkpoint load
legitimately moves zero bytes for many minutes, so a reaper keyed on byte
movement would reclaim a healthy job mid-load; byte progress stays the
concern of load_deadline.go. A job whose heartbeat stops for longer than
the orphan window is reclaimable, so a replica killed mid-load cannot
wedge a model permanently.

Failed jobs keep their row for a short grace so an immediately-following
request reports the real cause instead of silently starting a fresh load
of a model that just failed.

No caller yet — the router moves onto this in the next commit.

* refactor(distributed): run cold loads as jobs, outside the advisory lock

Route wrapped the entire cold load — node selection, backend install,
multi-GB staging and the remote LoadModel — in the per-model advisory
lock. The lock's job is to de-duplicate concurrent loaders, a decision
that takes milliseconds; holding it for the tens of minutes the resulting
work takes is what turned a dedup mechanism into a cluster-wide outage
for that model.

Split it into a claim and a run. The claim is the only thing left inside
the lock. The run is a background job owned by the claiming replica and
bounded by the same progress-extended deadline as before; every other
request for that model — local or on another replica — attaches as a
waiter and is served the moment the model is ready, with no duplicate
load and no lock contention.

Waiters share one broadcast rather than an ordered queue: they all want
the identical outcome, so ordering them would add fairness machinery that
changes no result. The local channel wakes same-replica waiters instantly
and a 2s DB poll is the authority, because a waiter on another replica
has no channel to close. On wake a waiter re-runs the warm path rather
than trusting the signal — the model may have been evicted in between.

A waiter whose client disconnects returns immediately and the job keeps
running; it belongs to the job record, not to the request. A failure is
recorded on the row so every waiter reports the real cause, and the row
survives briefly so the next request does not read "no job" as "not
loading" and start a duplicate load of a model that just failed.

The runner heartbeats the row on a fixed interval whether or not bytes
are moving, which is what keeps a legitimately silent checkpoint load
from being reclaimed as an orphan. Phase (installing/staging/loading) and
placement ride to the heartbeat on the context, the same seam
load_deadline.go already uses, so single-host paths are untouched.

Non-distributed mode (no DB) keeps the inline load exactly as it was.

* feat(distributed): bound the wait for a loading model and answer with progress

A request whose model is cold-loading now attaches to the running job and
is served the moment the model is ready. That wait has to be bounded: a
held HTTP request cannot survive real infrastructure, and an ingress or LB
idle timeout kills a twenty-minute request regardless of what LocalAI
does.

New LOCALAI_MODEL_LOAD_WAIT (default 60s) bounds the CALLER, never the
load — the job keeps running either way. On expiry the request gets 503
with Retry-After and a structured body naming the model, the node, the
phase, byte progress and an ETA. The `error` envelope keeps OpenAI
clients working; `loading` is additive so they ignore it.

The ETA comes from the job's own observed rate and is omitted rather than
guessed until enough bytes have moved for that rate to mean anything: a
confidently wrong ETA on a twenty-minute wait is worse than none.
Retry-After is that ETA when known, clamped to [5s, 300s], and the wait
budget otherwise.

LOCALAI_MODEL_LOAD_WAIT=0 waits unbounded, for deployments with no proxy
in front. Zero in the config struct still means "unset, use the default",
so the CLI records the operator's zero as ModelLoadWaitUnbounded rather
than losing the distinction.

The distributed branch of ModelLoader.loadModel wrapped the router's
error with %s, which flattened it to a string. Use %w: the typed error is
what the HTTP layer keys the 503 off.

* feat(api): add GET /api/models/{id}/load-status

A client that receives 503 while a model stages onto a worker needs
somewhere to poll. This returns the same `loading` object the 503 carries
— phase, node, byte progress and ETA — or 404 when no load is running.

Read-only and observability-shaped, so it is deliberately neither
admin-gated nor feature-gated: it explains a 503 the caller just
received, and hiding that behind a per-modality feature would make the
explanation for a failed image request depend on chat permissions. It
also gets no MCP tool, since there is nothing here an admin would manage
conversationally.

Registered on the surfaces from .agents/api-endpoints-and-auth.md: the
swagger block (existing `models` tag, so /api/instructions needs no new
area), the endpoint discovery maps in RegisterLocalAIRoutes, regenerated
swagger, and the distributed-mode docs page. No FLAG_* usecase is
involved, so capabilities.js is unchanged.

* feat(ui): show cold-load progress in Chat and retry when the model is ready

A chat request for a model that is still staging onto a worker now gets a
503 carrying live progress instead of an error. Render it: the composer
shows the phase (installing / staging / loading), the node, the percent
and the ETA, then polls load-status and re-sends the request the moment
the model is ready.

Reuses the staging progress idiom the page already had rather than
inventing a second one — the two sources are folded into one
loadProgress, with the load job winning because it is authoritative
across frontend replicas and knows the phase, where the staging operation
only knows about a byte transfer this replica happens to be performing.

Waiting is bounded (three send attempts, ~30 min of polling each), so a
load that never finishes still surfaces as an error rather than as a
spinner nobody questions. An aborted generation stops the polling too.

* fix(distributed): check warm-path cleanup errors

The router moved legacy cleanup calls onto newly linted lines. Report
cleanup failures while preserving the fallback to a cold load.
