mudler-agentandEttore Di Giacinto e45dc5e9f7 feat(addons): installable add-ons foundation and the Tables add-on (#12702)
* feat(addons): add the add-on runtime, navigation and first-party add-ons

Add the add-on runtime to LocalAI: manifests, the host operation broker,
admin gating by account role, the add-on UI bundle builder and the SDK
for add-on pages. Move the navigation to Chat, Models, Add-ons and
Settings, with pinned add-ons in the sidebar and an Add-ons drawer.

Ship the first-party add-ons (voice, face, fine-tuning, quantization) as
packages for linux/amd64, linux/arm64 and darwin/arm64. Intel macOS
(darwin/amd64) is enabled in the platform files.

Squashed from the review branch. The tree is unchanged; the pre-squash
history is kept on a local backup branch.

* fix(gosec): tighten file modes and annotate false positives

Write job state, configs and imported models with mode 0600, clean
the paths that are read from disk, and mark the route tables, the
header name and the retry jitter as reviewed false positives.

* fix(addons): keep API keys off recovery mutations and same-site cookies

POST /api/addons/dispatch forwarded the recovery and update
mutations to the owner for any administrator key, which skipped the
browser-session rule of their own routes. Refuse those actions
there. Also apply the same-origin rule to the legacy token cookie,
not only the session cookie, because the global CSRF check lets
same-site requests through.

Do not fail the start of LocalAI when an add-on library cannot be
refreshed; log it and keep the installed add-ons up.

* fix(addons): refuse a reinstall that would migrate retained data unbacked

An upgrade takes a verified backup before the new package migrates
the data. A reinstall over retained data has no running generation
to stop, so the new package would migrate it without one. Refuse a
reinstall whose data format differs from the retained one.

* fix(addons): release the manager lock while a release is fetched

Submit held the state lock across the catalog lookup and the package
download, so the apps list and status reads stalled for the whole
install. Serialize Submit and Reconcile with their own lock and drop
the state lock around the fetch only.

* fix(addons): kill an add-on only after three missed health probes

One slow 100 ms probe killed a busy add-on and dropped the work it
was serving. Require three misses in a row.

* feat(ui): move settings under the operate hub

The Operate hub already has Settings as a tab, so the sidebar no longer shows a separate Settings entry. The /app/settings route stays, and the hub tab still reaches it. The navigation test now expects Chat, Models and Add-ons as the primary items.

* fix(addons): accept same-host browser requests that carry no fetch metadata

Browsers do not send Sec-Fetch-* headers over plain HTTP on an address
that is not localhost, so every add-on request from a LAN address was
refused as cross-site. Keep refusing a Sec-Fetch-Site value other than
same-origin. When the header is absent, accept the request only if its
Origin, or failing that its Referer, names the same host and port as
the request.

* fix(ui): show the server's reason when an add-on request is refused

A 403 or 400 answer showed a generic message and hid the reason in the
response body, so a refusal by the browser guard could not be told from
a missing permission. Show error.message from the body as the server
sent it, and keep the generic text when the body has none.

* feat(addons): run the add-on owner in the normal binary

The owner was only enabled when an embedding host set the add-on config,
so a normal run answered every add-on request as unavailable.

Add --addons-enabled (default true) and --addons-ownership-mode
(default named-user, or local-owner; anything else stops startup).
The node is its own owner: state lives under the data path, and the
carrier uses loopback keys made at each start and kept in memory.
--addons-enabled=false turns the owner off completely.

Named-user mode needs the account database. With authentication off
the owner stays off and a warning says how to use local-owner.

* fix(addons): keep the loopback owner address stable across restarts

The single-node loopback transport took a new ephemeral port at each
start. The owner stores its address in its identity file and refuses to
start when the address differs, so every start after the first failed
with "invalid addon owner configuration".

Choose the port once, keep it in the add-on state root (loopback-port,
mode 0600) and reuse it. If the port is taken at a later start, stop
with an error that names the port and --addons-enabled=false, because
another port would break the identity check. The keys and certificate
stay in memory.

* feat(addons): let add-on pages keep the host modules they were written against

A page written for the web UI imports React, the router, i18next and a
few shared components. The add-on builder refuses a bundle that holds a
host file, so moving such a page into an add-on meant rewriting it.

Add a compat mode to the shared builder. It answers those imports from a
directory of stand-ins that read the SDK, bundles the dynamic import of
the page code into the one output file, and collects the style sheets the
page imports. A relative import that is not in the add-on's own source
resolves to the file at the same path under the compat directory.

Widen the SDK for these pages, without a version change: more host
components (spinner, modal, lightbox, model picker) and hooks (models,
resources, voice profiles, operations, MCP client), a style on icons,
the icon names the pages draw, sdk.navigation.openApp to open a page of
the app (only addresses under /app, and the way back as the only state)
and sdk.portal. The shell passes the query string to the page.

The stand-ins cover the router (the tab in the path, the model in the
query), the translator over the host locale files, the core API calls
through sdk.core.fetch, and byte copies of the pure helpers, with tests
that keep the copies equal to the originals.

* feat(addons): ship Studio and Talk as add-ons instead of built-in pages

Studio and Talk were compiled into the web bundle and always listed in
the Add-ons drawer. They are add-ons now, like Voice, Face, fine-tuning
and quantization: a person installs and removes them, the drawer lists
them only while they are installed, and they are packaged the same way.

Move the pages, their components, hooks and helpers into addons/studio
and addons/talk. Each has a manifest, a UI bundle, a release platform
matrix and a catalog template, and is built by the compat mode of the
shared builder. The core API stays where it is: the pages call it with
the signed-in person's session. The history keeps its browser storage
keys. The unit tests of the moved helpers move with them.

In the core, drop the two pages, the Create group of the sidebar (Chat
joins Home and Models in the old layout), the built-in catalog entries
(the catalog is empty) and the talk locale namespace. The old addresses
(/app/studio, /app/talk and the generator links) redirect to the add-on
pages, with the model as ?model=. The Home /studio command is offered
only while the Studio add-on is installed and opens it.

The release workflow and its tests now list seven add-ons.

* test(ui): run the Studio and Talk specs against the add-on bundles

The pages are add-ons now, so a spec that draws one installs the real
built bundle first: the apps list names it and its module and style
sheet are served from the build output, the way the add-on owner serves
them. studio-addon.js holds that helper, and the Studio and Talk
fixtures call it.

Update the specs for the new addresses (/app/addons/studio/studio, the
model as ?model=), the session permission the add-on route needs, the
legacy redirects, the Home /studio command that appears only while the
add-on is installed, and the sidebar without a Create group.

Add specs for the add-ons themselves: every tab draws with no script
error, the shell titles the page once, the old addresses say so when the
add-on is not installed, a button of the page reaches a core page with
the way back, and the drawer lists both only after they are installed.

* fix(ui): centre the icon of a built-in tile in its icon box

The drawer drew the icon of a built-in tile (Studio's palette was one)
in a bare 40px box. Only the placeholder box was laid out as a centred
grid with the 20px size, so the real icon sat in the top-left corner at
the size of the page text.

Give the built-in tile the same classes as the placeholder box, and
check in a browser that the icon is centred.

* docs(addons): describe Studio and Talk as add-ons

Replace the built-in list (now empty) with the Studio and Talk add-on
sections, the new targets of the old links, the Home command, and the
seven packaged add-ons. Describe the SDK additions the pages use:
components, hooks, icons, openApp and portal. Say on the Studio page
that it is installed from the drawer.

* test(ui): click the shell title in the Studio slash-key spec

The add-on shell titles the page, and the Studio overview no longer draws
a second title, but the generator tabs keep theirs, so a bare h1 locator
matched two elements. Click the first, which is the shell's.

* fix(addons): read the loopback port file through os.Root

The persisted port file was read with a path built from the add-on
root, which gosec reports as a file inclusion through a variable. Open
it through os.Root so the name cannot leave the root, even by a
symbolic link, and require a regular file with no group or other
access. A looser file now fails closed instead of being trusted.

* test(ui): expect Settings under the Operate hub, not the sidebar

Settings moved out of the sidebar into the Operate hub. The navigation
spec still expected a sidebar link. Assert that the sidebar has no
Settings entry, and that the Operate hub opens Settings as a tab.

* test(ui): drop Settings from the 404 places

Settings is a tab of the Operate hub and not a destination of its own,
so the 404 page does not list it. Assert that it is absent.

* test(ui): drive the media history and TTS specs through the Studio add-on

The image, video, sound and speech generators are pages of the Studio
add-on now, and the old addresses redirect to it. Install the add-on
with the Studio fixtures, open its pages and use its compose card, so
the specs run against the page that exists.

* test(ui): count the first-run steps, not every list item

The recommended models are a list inside the second step, so counting
all list items read 3 only while the models were still loading. Count
the step elements, which does not depend on the load order.

* test(ui): fail the node refresh by state, not by call count

The spec served the list to the first request and failed the rest. The
first request is not always the one from the page, so the page could
get the failure first and show no list. Serve the list until the page
shows it, then fail the refreshes.

* feat(addons): default to local-owner when auth is off

A server without authentication has no accounts, so named-user left
the add-on owner off. Resolve the unset mode in one place: local-owner
when authentication is off, named-user when it is on. A flag or
environment value still wins, and an unknown value is still refused.

* feat(addons): register an official add-on library by default

Add gallery/addons/index.yaml, a YAML index of the four first-party
add-ons (fine-tuning, quantization, voice, face) in the library format.
The entries come from addonpkg catalog over locally built linux/amd64
packages, so the digests pin those images.

On the first start, when the owner has no sources.json, register the
raw GitHub URL of that index on master as the "official" library and
write the file. The file is then the record: a library the admin
removes stays removed, and an existing file is never changed.
--addons-official-library=false skips the default.

* feat(addons): list Studio and Talk in the first-party index

Add the Studio and Talk entries to gallery/addons/index.yaml next to
the four existing ones. They come from addonpkg catalog over locally
built linux/amd64 packages, so the digests pin those images.

* feat(addons): add a real icon to each first-party add-on

Each icon is a 256 by 256 PNG: a rounded square in one colour of the
UI kit palette with a white outline glyph from the kit sprite. Fine-tuning
uses sliders, quantization layers, voice waveform, face user, studio
palette, talk phone and tables database. They were rendered with headless
Chrome from the sprite paths.

* feat(addons): ship a committed icon.png instead of the generated square

The shared UI builder and the Tables builder copy ui/icon.png from the
add-on source tree to the package unchanged when the file exists. They
write the generated placeholder only when it does not. Add a fixture with
an icon and a test for both cases.

* feat(addons): list the tables add-on in the first-party index

Add the Tables entry to gallery/addons/index.yaml next to the six
existing ones. It comes from addonpkg catalog over a locally built
linux/amd64 package, so the digest pins that image. The official index
test now expects seven add-ons.

* feat(addons): make the Voice add-on one page with tabs

The Voice add-on had four pages: recognition, library, create and
speech, and the drawer listed two of them. It now has one page, "voice",
and one drawer entry. Recognition, Library, Text to speech and From a
recording are tabs of that page, drawn with the same tab strip the
recognition page already used. The tab is the first path segment
(voice/library), as in the Studio add-on, and the form that adds a voice
is a view of the Library tab (voice/library/new).

The old page names stay declared in the manifest. Each one redirects to
its tab and keeps the query string, so saved links still open.

* feat(ui): send the old voice routes to the Voice tabs

/app/voice, /app/voice-library and /app/voice-library/new now open the
matching tab of the Voice add-on page while the add-on is installed and
running, and the core pages otherwise. The moved-page helper compares
the first segment of the target with the declared pages, so a target
can name a tab. The docs and the navigation spec list the new addresses.

Assisted-by: Claude Code:claude-sonnet-5-5 node

* test(addons): cover the Voice tabs and the old page redirects

The add-on unit tests render the tabs instead of the four pages. The
Playwright spec checks the tab strip, the address of each tab, the
missing Library tab for a member, and that the old page addresses of the
add-on redirect to their tab with the query string kept. The migration
table test follows the new targets.

* fix(studio): keep the model menu inside a narrow screen

The Home model picker sizes its menu from the viewport, and assumes the
picker sits at the page gutter. In the Studio composer card the field is
further in, so on a 390px screen the menu of the Sound expansion picker
ended 7px past the right edge. Size the menu from the field it opens
under instead.

* test(ui): build the add-on bundles once for the whole run

Each worker built the Studio and Talk bundles into the same dist
directory, and the build empties that directory first. A worker that
started, or restarted after a failure, removed the files another worker
was serving, so a Studio spec saw "the style sheet of the add-on could
not be loaded". Build once in a global setup before the workers start.
A run without the setup still builds per worker.

* test(ui): register the worker when the add-node spec says so

The mocked roster added the worker on the third read of /api/nodes. The
shell and the page both read it, and which one asks first depends on
load, so the page could take the new worker as part of the roster it
opened with and never show it as found. The worker now joins after the
page shows it is listening.

* test(ui): hold the gallery answer until the skeleton is seen

The spec delayed the answer by a fixed 800 ms and then looked for the
skeleton. The assertion polls at growing intervals, so on a slow machine
it could step over that window. The answer now waits until the skeleton
has been seen, and the spec then checks that the skeleton goes away.

* test(ui): give the PDF tag the time the other PDF specs have

pdf.js and its worker load on first use. The other specs in this file
wait up to ten seconds for the result of that load. The first one waited
five, and missed the tag on a busy machine.

* test(ui): build the Face and Fine-tuning bundles in the global setup

The navigation spec serves the built Fine-tuning bundle, but nothing
built it, so two specs failed on a fresh checkout when the dist folder
was missing. The spec also built the Face bundle in a hook that every
worker runs, and a build rewrites the folder the other workers serve.

The global setup now builds Studio, Talk, Face and Fine-tuning once,
before the workers start. The spec builds the two bundles itself only
when it runs without the global setup.

* test(ui): fix the Home answers in the stale pin spec

The spec asserts that the page shows no alert. The Home page raises its
own alert when the model list fails or a staging operation has failed,
and both answers come from the shared test server. A slow reply or a
failed install left there counted as an alert about the pin.

The spec now fixes both answers, so the alert count tells only about the
pin. The assertions are unchanged.

* test(ui): read the server address in the add-node spec from the page

The spec expected the register address to carry port 8089, so it failed
on any other port. It now expects the origin the page was opened from.

* test(addons): give the navigation routes spec its own catalog

No page is built in today, so the catalog is empty and the three specs
that expect the studio and talk entries failed on the list and on the
pin seed. They passed only while Studio and Talk were built in.

The spec now sets a catalog of two ungated entries for each example and
restores the old one afterwards. The assertions are unchanged.

error and leaves the variable alone.

* test(addons): move the add-on tool tests to Ginkgo

The fine-tuning, quantization and add-on host library tests used
t.Errorf, t.Fatal and t.Run, which the forbidigo rule rejects. They now
use Describe, It and Gomega, with a suite bootstrap in each package. The
cases and the assertions are the same.

The tables in the host client and the tool schema tests keep one entry
per case.

* test(addons): move the host operation tests to Ginkgo

The hostops tests used the testing package calls that forbidigo rejects.
They now run as Ginkgo specs under one suite bootstrap. Every check and
every per-operation case is kept.

* test(addons): move the pin store tests to Ginkgo

The pin service, file store, sweep and shared store contract tests used
the testing package calls that forbidigo rejects. The store contract is
now a function that registers its specs for each store, so the file
store, the memory-only store and the database store run the same cases.

* test(addons): move the remaining add-on tests to Ginkgo

The built-in catalog, tool arguments, loopback carrier, host operation
contract, packaging, application, config, CLI and endpoint tests used
the testing package calls that forbidigo rejects. They now run as Ginkgo
specs. The endpoint tests also drop the unchecked Close errors that
errcheck reports when the auth tag is on.

* test(ui): wait for the targeted Reinstall button before the install click

The "generic deletion blocks targeted install at confirmation" spec
dispatches a popstate to set the target node, then clicks Reinstall with
a script click. The click can run before the targeted page has rendered
or while the button is still disabled, so no install request is sent and
the poll on the install count times out. It failed 1 run in 10 with two
workers and on every retry in CI.

The spec now waits for the button to be enabled first. The assertions
are unchanged.

* chore(addons): refresh the voice package digest in the first-party index

The Voice add-on became one page with tabs and got a new icon, so the
digest in gallery/addons/index.yaml no longer matched the build. Render
the entry again with addonpkg catalog over a locally built linux/amd64
package; the main page is now voice. The other entries are unchanged.

* test(ui): wait for the target node's Reinstall button after the popstate

The "generic deletion blocks targeted install at confirmation" spec
dispatches a popstate to set the target node, then waits for a button
named Reinstall and clicks it. Until React renders the targeted page,
the page still draws the generic Reinstall button. It is enabled and has
the same name, so the wait passed on it, the click started a global
install, and no node install request was sent. The poll on the install
count timed out with the confirm dialog still open.

With the CPU throttled to 8x, the spec failed on 20 of 20 runs, and the
button it clicked had the title "Reinstall". The spec now waits for the
button titled "Reinstall on <node>". With the throttle it passes 30 of
30 runs. The assertions are unchanged.

* test(ui): give the Studio hand-off spec a budget for the cold bundle load

The "a result made through a hand-off records which result it came from"
spec opens the Studio add-on straight from an address, twice. Each is a
cold load: the page shows "Loading" until the add-on module has run, and
the next assertion had the default five seconds. The load takes about
two seconds on an idle run and seven to ten under CPU load, so the spec
failed on a loaded machine with the hand-off note not yet drawn.

With the CPU throttled to 6x and eight busy loops running, it failed on
21 of 30 runs. The first assertion after each load now waits up to 20
seconds, and the spec then passed 30 of 30 under the same load. The
assertions are unchanged.

* fix(addons): carry the identity page styles in the Face add-on

The Face page is drawn with the shared identity views, but its style sheet
held only the clip and error rules. The page, card, model list, known-faces
table, enrol sheet and distance scale classes had no rules. They looked
right only when the host had already loaded the style sheet of its own
Faces page, which a visit through the add-on drawer does not do. Opened
that way, the cards had no gap, the model list showed bullets, and the
install buttons ran into the names.

* fix(addons): scope the narrow-screen identity rules of the Voice add-on

The rules for narrow screens (single-column pairs, smaller tool padding,
compact rank rows) were copied into the Voice style sheet without their
media query, so they applied at every width. They now sit in a
max-width 720px query, and the reduced-motion rule in its own query, as in
the core sheet.

* fix(addons): drop the repeated title from the Voice and Face pages

The add-on shell already titles the page, so the recognition pages showed the name twice: "Voice" above "Voices", "Face" above "Faces". Keep the supporting line and the model picker, as the Studio page does, and remove the unused title strings.

* feat(ui): replace the Pinned sidebar section with an Apps entry

The sidebar no longer lists pinned add-ons. It shows one Apps entry that
opens the add-ons drawer, with a Show all link below it that opens the
same drawer. Pins are used from the drawer, where a pinned tile keeps
its pin and move buttons. The server pins API is unchanged.

Remove the PinnedNav component and its locale title, rename the
items.addons label to Apps, and update the e2e specs and the add-ons
documentation to match.

* test(addons): assert the single shell title on the Voice and Face pages

The add-on shell now shows the one title, "Voice" or "Face", and the page no longer repeats it. The tests still looked for the h1 "Voices" and "Faces". Assert that the add-on page has exactly one h1 and that it is the shell title. The core pages keep their own "Voices" and "Faces" titles.

* fix(addons): drop the repeated title from the Voice Library and Text to speech pages

The add-on shell already titles the page "Voice", so these two tabs showed a second heading below it ("Speech voices", "Speak text"). Keep the supporting line, as the Studio and recognition pages do, and remove the unused title strings. The e2e spec now checks that each tab has exactly one h1, the shell title.

* feat(ui): list pinned apps under Apps in the sidebar

A pinned app now shows as an indented child of the Apps entry, with its icon and title, in pin order. Show all stays the last child. The pins come from GET /api/addons/pins through the navigation context, and the apps from the add-on registry, which the drawer feeds on every list read, so the links follow the drawer. A pin without an installed app is not drawn, nothing extra shows when no app is pinned, and the children are hidden when the sidebar is collapsed to the rail.

* fix(ui): remove the Show all link under Apps in the sidebar

The link repeated the Apps entry, which opens the same drawer, and looked redundant when no app was pinned. Apps is now the only add-on entry; pinned apps still list under it in pin order. * feat(ui): show a first-run card on Apps when nothing is installed

An administrator who opens Apps with no add-on installed now sees a

once an add-on is installed and for anyone who cannot install.

* fix(ui): hide the pinned apps in the icon rail

When the window is narrower than 1024 px the sidebar shrinks to the icon rail by CSS alone, without the collapsed class. The pinned app links were still drawn there, with the indent meant for the full sidebar, so their icons sat to the right of the rail and were cut off. Hide the pinned app links in both rail states. The Apps entry keeps its centred icon. The e2e spec checks that the rail shows no pinned app and that every icon is centred at 1280 px collapsed and at 1000 px.

* test(ui): stop the backend redirect test racing the installed list

The test reads the redirected URL right after the path changes. The
Backends page then loads the installed list and drops a selected backend
that is not installed, so the backend parameter was sometimes already gone
when the test read it. The mock server has no llama-cpp, and about 15 of
40 repeated runs failed on the backend assertion. The redirect itself was
correct, including show_all.

Serve the selected backend in the installed list, so the page keeps the
selection and the assertions stay as strict as before.

* fix(addons): accept a same-host Referer or Origin for human confirmation

Browsers send no Sec-Fetch-* headers over plain HTTP on an address that
is not localhost, so creating a resource from a LAN address failed with
"Creating a resource requires your own browser session".

When Sec-Fetch-Site is present it must still be same-origin with an
empty destination, as before. When it is absent, Origin or, failing
that, Referer must name the request host and port. A destination or
mode that is present must still be the expected one. This matches the
rule in BrowserProtection. The credential, token cookie, API key and
tool-context checks are unchanged.

* fix(ui): keep hub entries off the Apps route in the sidebar

The Build hub still owned /app/addons through its legacy Add-ons tab,
so the sidebar lit both Apps and Build on the Apps page. A tab whose

Apps entry is active there. The hubs keep their own routes, and the
legacy navigation still gives /app/addons to the Build hub.

* feat(ui): label the pin control on app tiles and in the detail view

The pin was a small icon-only button and hard to find. Each app tile now
shows a button reading Pin, or Pinned with a filled pin, and the detail

The Apps grid lists pinned apps first, in pin order, then the others.
The sidebar list and the server pins API are unchanged.

* test(addons): check the Voice From a recording tab has one title

* fix(ui): stop the add-on shell drawing a title over add-on pages

The app decides what its page shows. The shell drew the add-on name as a
header above every add-on page, so an add-on could not choose its own
title. The shell now draws no header on a live, loading or frozen
add-on page; each add-on titles its own pages. The unavailable and
missing-page states keep the name, because no add-on page is drawn there.

The runtime and shell specs now check that the shell adds no page title.

* fix(addons): let each add-on draw its own page title

The shell no longer titles add-on pages, so each add-on draws one h1 per
page. Voice titles its tabs "Voices" (Recognition and From a recording),
"Speech voices" (Library) and "Speak text" (Text to speech); "Add a speech
voice" already had its own. Face draws "Faces", Studio "Studio" and Talk
"Talk". Tables promotes the database list and database name from h2 to h1.
Fine-tuning and Quantization already drew a title.

The add-on unit tests and the navigation and Studio specs now assert
exactly one h1 per page, with the page's own title.

* feat(addons): add a kind to library entries and read unknown kinds tolerantly

A library entry now has an optional kind: addon (the default when it is
absent), backend or model. Every index written before kinds existed stays
valid and its entries are add-ons.

A reader keeps the entries of the kinds it knows and skips the others
without reading their fields, so a newer kind never makes an older host
refuse the whole index. The refresh result and the library state report
how many entries were skipped and of which kinds, and the refresh logs a
warning. A kind that is not a plain kind name still makes the index
malformed. Search lists add-ons unless the caller asks for a kind, and
Resolve returns add-ons only, so an add-on install cannot be pointed at
a backend image.

A library policy may name the signer with an anchored identityRegex
instead of an exact identity, so builds from master and from tags both
verify. An add-on install refuses a policy that carries one.

* feat(backends): install a backend from a library entry

A library can now list backends. An entry of kind backend names the
image of the backend gallery by digest, and POST /backends/library/install
installs it on the local node. The gallery stays the source of truth and
its install path is the one used: the library resolves the entry, takes
the signature policy from the library, pins the image by digest and calls
the same install as the gallery. Installing a name that came from a
gallery, another library or by hand is refused and changes nothing.

The signature policy of a backend library names the signer with an
anchored identityRegex, so images signed by the merge workflow on master
and on tags both verify. A pattern that is not anchored is refused.

An install is bounded by a size limit per kind: add-ons keep 512 MiB and
a backend image defaults to 8 GiB, set with --addons-backend-max-bytes.
The limit reads the manifest after the signature check and before any
layer is fetched. The metadata of an installed backend records the
library it came from.

scripts/backends/cmd/backendcatalog renders entries from
backend/index.yaml and pins them against the registry. The pilot is the
CPU build of local-store, in gallery/backends/index.yaml. The library is
registered on the first start only with --addons-backend-library, which
is off by default.

* feat(ui): show the kind of library entries and install backends from them

The Browse tab lists the entries of every kind this host reads and marks
each one as an add-on or a backend. A backend installs through the
backend route and not through the add-on lifecycle: the confirmation
says that the backend gallery is not changed and that a backend runs
native code, and a refusal of the host, such as a name installed from
another origin, is shown with its own reason. The details give the kind,
the alias and the signer pattern.

The library editor can name the signer with a pattern. Without this a
save would drop the pattern of a backend library. The Libraries tab
reports the entries a refresh skipped because their kind is not read.

* docs(addons): describe backends in the library

* feat(mcp): install a backend from a library entry

The backend library route installs a backend from an add-on library
entry, and the admin REST surface and the MCP catalog must stay in step.
Add the install_library_backend tool with an in-process and an HTTP
client, the route map entry, the safety-rule listing and a skill recipe.

Listing library entries stays on the add-on routes, which the assistant

* feat(ui): add an add-ons control to the chat header

Add-on tools were on or off only through the /addons command, with a toast
and no state a person could see. The chat header now has an Add-ons button
in the style of the MCP dropdown. It lists each running add-on that ships
tools with a switch, and a badge shows how many are on.

The chat keeps the ids that are on (addonToolIds) next to the older
boolean, and both are saved with the chat. A chat that has only the boolean
means every add-on. The request sends addon_tools alone when every add-on is
on, and adds addon_tool_ids when only some are. /addons turns all on or all
off and uses the same state.

* feat(addons): let a chat request name the add-ons whose tools it uses

addon_tools=true still offers the tools of every add-on the caller may use.
A new addon_tool_ids metadata key, a comma-separated list of add-on ids,
narrows that to some add-ons. The list counts only with the opt-in, and a
list that names nothing offers no tool rather than all of them.

The executor drops the tools of add-ons that are not listed and refuses a
call to one as an unknown tool, so a model cannot reach a tool the person
turned off. Both keys are consumed so they do not reach the backend.

* test(addons): cover the per-add-on tool list and the chat header control

Go tests cover the list form (the list filters the tools offered and the
calls allowed) and the unchanged boolean form. Unit tests cover the chat
add-on rules. Playwright specs cover the header control: listing only
add-ons that ship tools, toggling each one, the count, /addons in step with
the switches, and the request metadata.

* test(ui): check each add-on page has one title when not enabled

The shell names an add-on only where the add-on page cannot mount (not
enabled, failed, no UI, bundle not loaded, no such page). Once the page
mounts it draws its own title, including when it says it is not enabled
on this server, and the shell draws none. The shell code already works
this way; this change states the rule beside the unavailable state and
pins it in the specs.

The shell spec now expects exactly one title in the unavailable states.
The navigation spec checks the Face page without a face model (the
add-on title only) and the Face page of a stopped add-on (the shell
title only).

* feat(addons): upgrade add-ons on their own when the setting is on

A new auto_upgrade_addons setting (flag LOCALAI_AUTO_UPGRADE_ADDONS,
default off) lets the owner upgrade an installed add-on when its library
lists a newer version. It follows the backend setting: a startup flag, a
runtime setting, and the same schedule as the backend update check (a
first pass shortly after start, then every six hours).

Each pass fetches the library of every installed add-on, and for each
available update builds the same pinned upgrade command an administrator
sends and runs it through the same lifecycle path. The channel rules, the
signer identity, the digest checks, the SDK compatibility check and the
backup before the upgrade all apply unchanged. The only difference is the
gate: the owner acts on its own setting, so no administrator is asked.
A refused or failed upgrade changes nothing and is logged; a candidate
that failed is not retried until the library lists another digest.

With the setting off, nothing runs and upgrades stay manual.

* feat(ui): add the Upgrade add-ons automatically toggle to Settings

* test(addons): cover the automatic upgrade setting and document it

The setting defaults to off in the config, the runtime settings and the
flag, and is read back from the saved settings file. With it on, a real
owner upgrades an installed add-on through the manager; with it off,
nothing changes, and a change of the setting at run time takes effect on
the next pass. The manager specs show the upgrade goes through the same
pinned path as the manual one, and that a corrupted package, a failed
signature policy, an incompatible release, a missing update checker and
a caller who is not an administrator each leave the installed version in
place. The new specs are added to the lifecycle case inventory.

The add-ons page describes the setting, its schedule and its default.

* refactor(addons): name the library entry identifier id

The library entry of an add-on used addonId while the shared envelope
and the model entries use id. Release now has the field ID, written as
id, and every writer emits it: the index encoder, the package workflow
templates, the catalog generator and gallery/addons/index.yaml. The
digests in the index did not change.

DecodeIndex still reads addonId as a legacy alias for one release, so
an existing library and a library served by an older tool keep
working. An entry that holds both names is refused. The Apps UI reads
id and falls back to addonId.

36307005a9 feat(chat-history): server-side chat history with tombstones (follow-up to #9902) (#12663)
* feat(schema): add Conversation schema for chat history (#9432)

Persist WebUI chat conversations server-side so browser refresh, private
windows, or device changes preserve user history (issue #9432). This
commit adds the on-disk representation:

- Conversation holds id, name, model, opaque history, MCP / sampling
  settings, and timestamps.
- ConversationsFile is the per-user list serialised to JSON.

History is stored as json.RawMessage so the server stays agnostic to
React message shapes (user / assistant / thinking / tool_call /
tool_result mixed with text / image_url / audio_url / file attachments).

* feat(chathistory): add file-based per-user conversation store (#9432)

File-backed persister for chat history. Each user's conversations live
under {baseDir}/{userID}/conversations.json (anonymous/ when auth is
disabled).

Design choices:
- In-memory cache backed by sync.Mutex so concurrent saves don't
  interleave writes.
- Atomic write via tmp file + os.Rename so a crash mid-save never
  leaves a corrupted history.
- ID validation regex blocks path-traversal payloads at the store
boundary, in addition to the auth context constraint.

Tests cover round-trip persistence across instances, user isolation,
unsafe-ID rejection, bulk replace migration, and the anonymous fallback
path.

* feat(api): expose chat conversation CRUD endpoints (#9432)

Wire the chathistory store into the HTTP layer. New endpoints under
/api/conversations:

- GET /api/conversations list
- POST /api/conversations upsert (id in body)
- DELETE /api/conversations delete all
- PUT /api/conversations/bulk replace entire set (localStorage migration)
- GET /api/conversations/:id fetch one
- PUT /api/conversations/:id upsert (id in path; path id wins over body)
- DELETE /api/conversations/:id delete one

All endpoints scope queries to the authenticated user via getUserID(c)
- callers cannot impersonate other users by passing a user_id in the
body. The endpoints are gated behind the new chat_history feature
permission (default ON in APIFeatures), registered through the existing
RouteFeatureRegistry so the unified feature middleware picks them up
automatically.

Application.ChatHistoryStore() returns nil when DisableWebUI is set or
no persistence path is configured, in which case route registration is
skipped entirely rather than registering handlers that always 503.

Also adds the chat-history instruction entry and Swagger tag so the
endpoint surfaces in /api/instructions and /swagger.

* feat(react-ui): sync chat history to server with localStorage fallback (#9432)

useChat now probes /api/conversations on mount. When the endpoint
responds 200, the server becomes the authoritative source: the hook
merges remote conversations into local state and pushes per-chat PUT
updates on each debounced save. When the endpoint 404s - older LocalAI
deploys or the feature disabled - the hook silently keeps the old
localStorage-only behaviour, so the change is backward-compatible.

Migration: when the server is reachable but empty and the browser has
local conversations with history, the hook fires a single
PUT /api/conversations/bulk to seed the server. The atomic bulk endpoint
avoids partial-upload states where a retry would skip already-uploaded
entries.

Delete operations propagate to the server when it's available; failures
are silently swallowed so the local UI stays responsive on transient
network errors.

* test(chathistory): rewrite tests in Ginkgo/Gomega

The initial test file used the stdlib testing package (t.Fatalf /
t.Errorf), which is forbidden by the forbidigo linter rule in
.golangci.yml — LocalAI mandates Ginkgo/Gomega for all Go tests (see
.agents/coding-style.md).

Restructured the same six scenarios into Describe / Context / It blocks,
with a chathistory_suite_test.go bootstrap that registers the Ginkgo
fail handler. Test coverage is unchanged: basic CRUD round-trip, cross-
instance persistence, user isolation, unsafe ID rejection (now via
DescribeTable), bulk replace overwrite, and the anonymous fallback
path.

* refactor(chathistory): switch store to GORM-backed authDB

Addresses mudler's review on #9902. Chat history was the only per-user
state in LocalAI sitting in a separate filesystem store instead of the
shared GORM database — AgentStore and JobStore both live there. Move
it onto Application.authDB so per-user state stays in one place.

* ConversationRecord (GORM model) with composite primary key
(user_id, conv_id) — React mints IDs locally with no global
coordination so per-user uniqueness is the natural shape.
* Store.New(db *gorm.DB) replaces Store.New(baseDir string).
Save / Get / List / Delete / DeleteAll / ReplaceAll keep their
signatures so HTTP handlers and the React UI are untouched.
* ReplaceAll runs in a transaction with an Unscoped() pre-clear so a
future retention sweep cannot resurrect a stale ID on re-upload.
* gorm.DeletedAt in the schema means a future retention pruner is a
one-line query — addresses the second half of the review (unbounded
in-memory map). The map is gone: reads go straight to the DB.

Trade-off worth flagging in the PR reply: chat history persistence
now requires auth.Enabled = true (that's what initialises
Application.authDB). With auth disabled the React UI transparently
falls back to localStorage, the same path the original PR took on
404. Consistent with AgentStore / JobStore; if a "chat history
always on" mode is preferred we can pull DB init out of auth.InitDB
into a shared helper.

* refactor(schema): drop now-unused ConversationsFile envelope

ConversationsFile was the JSON wrapper for the old file-based chat
history store — a {Conversations: [...], UpdatedAt: ...} pair
serialised to disk under {baseDir}/{userID}/conversations.json. The
previous commit replaced that store with a GORM-backed one that
writes rows directly as ConversationRecord, leaving the envelope
without a consumer.

* test(chathistory): switch tests to testutil.SetupTestDB

Mirror the AgentStore test setup: spin up a PostgreSQL 16 container
via testutil.SetupTestDB(), construct a Store on top of it, exercise
CRUD round-trips. The previous file-based fixtures (TempDir,
filepath.Join checks) are no longer meaningful now that the store
talks GORM.

Tests are skipped on macOS (testcontainers needs Docker) and run on
CI, same as the other GORM-backed suites in the repo.

Also reframed two cases:
* "unsafe IDs" → "malformed IDs" — the DB-backed store doesn't care
about path traversal, but idRegex still rejects whitespace /
control characters so IDs stay safe in logs and HTTP responses.
* "anonymous user" no longer pins a directory path (no directory
exists anymore); instead it checks the round-trip plus the
  per-user isolation guarantee.

Added a DeleteAll round-trip to cover the bulk-clear endpoint.

* test(chathistory): cover the conversation HTTP handlers

The seven /api/conversations handlers had no tests. Inject the
*chathistory.Store into the handlers instead of the whole Application and
move the route table into RegisterChatHistoryRoutes, so a spec can drive
the real registration and middleware chain (auth.Middleware plus the
chat_history feature gate) against an in-memory SQLite auth database.

The new specs cover 401 without credentials on every route, 403 when an
admin revoked chat_history, the CRUD round trip, path id over body id,
400 on malformed ids and bodies, per-user isolation, bulk replace and
delete-all, and that a nil store registers nothing (the UI then falls
back to localStorage).

The handlers' nil-store branches are gone: the routes are only
registered with a store, so those branches could never run.

* fix(chathistory): make deletions final with tombstones and versions

A conversation deleted on one device came back as soon as a client with
a stale copy wrote it again: Delete soft-deleted the row, and the next
Save went through GORM's upsert, which cleared deleted_at and resurrected
it for every device. The lookup that recovered CreatedAt also ran outside
any transaction, so concurrent writers raced on it.

The server is now authoritative over deletions:

* Delete turns the row into a tombstone: content dropped, deleted_at
set. It is idempotent, and deleting an id the server has not seen yet
still records a tombstone, so a delete that overtakes the UI's
in-flight debounced save of the same chat still wins.
* Save runs in a transaction, refuses a tombstoned id with ErrDeleted
(HTTP 410 Gone), and bumps the version with a single
UPDATE ... SET version = version + 1 guarded by deleted_at IS NULL,
so concurrent writers each count and a delete committed between the
lookup and the write still wins. Two concurrent first writes of the
same id retry once (ON CONFLICT DO NOTHING, then update).
* Every row carries a server-assigned version (1 on the first save,
+1 per write including the delete), returned to the client. A non-zero
version tells the UI the server has seen a conversation, which is how
it can tell a never-synced draft from a server-side deletion.
* GET /api/conversations returns the tombstones under "deleted".
* DeleteAll and ReplaceAll leave tombstones too. ReplaceAll no longer
hard-deletes everything first; it upserts the payload, skips ids that
were deleted (reported in "skipped"), and tombstones the rest.
* createdAt/updatedAt are stored as the client sends them (only zero
values are stamped), so clients compare updatedAt from their own
clocks rather than against the server's.

The store specs now run against PostgreSQL (testcontainers) and, with
the auth tag, SQLite through auth.InitDB, since both back the auth
database. The API specs cover a stale client reconnecting after a remote
deletion. Swagger is regenerated with swag v1.16.6 (json.RawMessage
fields get swaggertype), and the feature is documented, including that
it needs user auth.

* fix(react-ui): let the server decide which chats were deleted

mergeRemoteAndLocal kept every chat that was only in the browser and
let the server copy win for every shared id. A stale browser therefore
uploaded chats deleted on another device as if they were new drafts,
and a message sent while the list request was still in flight was
replaced by the older server copy and then lost from localStorage too.

The first load now reconciles with the server's tombstones and versions:

* a chat the server lists under "deleted" is dropped locally;
* a chat on both sides keeps the copy with the newer updatedAt, so an
  edit made during the load wins and is uploaded afterwards;
* a chat only in the browser is uploaded only if it was never synced
(no version). With a version the server has seen it and no longer
has it, so it is dropped instead of resurrected (this also keeps one
  account's cached chats out of another account on a shared browser);
* deletes made while the list is loading are queued and sent once it
  arrives.

Saves record the version the server returns, and a 410 on save drops
the chat locally instead of retrying it forever. Chats received from
the server count as already sent, so adopting a server copy no longer
echoes it straight back. The bulk localStorage migration is gone: it
replaced the whole server set from a possibly stale browser, and the
per-chat saves already upload never-synced drafts through the tombstone
check.

The Playwright spec drives each case against a stubbed
/api/conversations that follows the server contract.

* fix(chathistory): keep the LocalAI Assistant toggle on synced chats

master's createNewChat sets localaiAssistant, but serializeChat did not
send it and schema.Conversation had no field for it, so a chat with the
Assistant mode on came back with it off after a reload from the server
(and the local cache dropped it too). Add the field on both sides. The
other fields createNewChat sets were already covered; a handler spec now
round-trips all of them, and the UI spec checks the toggle on the way up
and in the local cache.

* fix(react-ui): scope chat cache per account, retry unconfirmed deletes

Two gaps in the client half of server-side chat history, both found in
review:

The browser cache was one shared localStorage key. A draft that one
account could not upload (a failed first save) stayed in it, and after
that account signed out and another signed in, the reconcile kept the
unversioned draft and the save pass uploaded it into the second
account. The cache now lives under localai_chats_data:<user id>, Chat
remounts its state when the account changes, and nothing is synced
without a signed-in account. The shared key is left for browser-only
use without auth and is not uploaded when signed in, because nothing
tells which account it belongs to.

Deletes were dropped locally and their DELETE errors swallowed; only
deletes made while the first list was loading were queued, and not
persisted. A delete made while the server was unreachable therefore
came back with the next list. Deletes (single, delete all, and deletes
on the Home page) are now kept as pending deletes in the account's
cache until the server confirms them, override the server list in the
reconcile, and are sent again on the next change, on the online event
and on the next load. While a delete-all is pending no conversation is
uploaded, so a chat started after it is not caught by it.

The Playwright specs replay both review scenarios (account switch after
a failed first save; delete and delete-all while offline) with
counter-checks that the same account keeps and uploads its own draft
and that a confirmed delete is neither re-sent nor resurrected.

* fix(react-ui): persist cleared chats immediately

chats after Clear all. Save the cleared list with its pending deletion
before returning, and cover immediate navigation in the browser spec.

* test(react-ui): make the chat history sync specs deterministic

- "clear all persists before navigation" opened a single chat, and the menu
offers no Clear all for one chat, so the spec timed out in every run. It
now opens two unsynced chats and checks that neither survives. Reverting
03cd9c115's save in clearAllChats turns it red again.
- "a delete the server confirmed is not sent again" reopened the page as
soon as the server had the request, before the page had the answer; the
unconfirmed delete was then rightly sent again (4 of 5 runs). It now waits
until the cache holds no pending delete.

Docs-Not-Needed: test-only change.

* fix(chathistory): keep the chat's reasoning effort on the server

reasoningEffort (#12700, #12716) is part of the chat the UI syncs since the
master merge, but schema.Conversation had no field for it, so the server
dropped it and a reload from the server reset the setting. Add the field.

The handler spec that round-trips every chat field now includes
reasoningEffort. A schema test reads serializeChat in useChat.js and fails
for any key the UI sends that schema.Conversation cannot hold, so the next
such drift shows up as a failing test rather than in review (it reports
reasoningEffort on the previous head). Swagger and docs updated.

mudler-agentandEttore Di Giacinto 9ad78381d8 [ui] Serve canvas HTML previews with their own CSP (#12715)
fix(ui): serve canvas HTML previews from a route with their own CSP

External scripts in canvas previews (for example three.js from unpkg)
were blocked. The preview used an iframe with srcdoc, which inherits the
global Content-Security-Policy, and a meta tag can only tighten it.

The UI now posts the HTML to POST /api/canvas/preview, gets a random id,
and loads GET /api/canvas/preview/:id in the iframe. That response sets
its own CSP that allows scripts from unpkg, jsdelivr, cdnjs, the
Tailwind CDN and jQuery. The global CSP is unchanged. The iframe keeps
sandbox="allow-scripts" without allow-same-origin.

Previews are kept in memory for 10 minutes and are never written to
disk. The GET route is public because the id is the capability and a
frame navigation cannot send API key headers.

Leoy aeac5e86dc fix(auth): bypass API-key auth for CORS preflight (OPTIONS) requests (#11113)
* fix(auth): bypass API-key auth for CORS preflight (OPTIONS) requests

When API-key auth is enabled, a browser making a cross-origin API call
first sends an OPTIONS CORS preflight, which cannot carry credentials by
HTTP spec. The auth middleware is registered (app.go:324) before the CORS
middleware (app.go:337-347), so the preflight hit auth first and returned
401 before the CORS middleware could answer it, blocking the actual call.

Bypass auth for OPTIONS so the request reaches the CORS middleware, which
answers the preflight with 200 + headers. Real API requests (GET/POST/etc.)
still require auth. Regression test added (red on master, green on branch).

Refs #4576

Signed-off-by: supermario_leo <leo.stack@outlook.com>

* fix(auth): exempt CORS preflights via publicRouteRegistry instead of middleware bypass

Route the global OPTIONS exemption through publicRouteRegistry
(OPTIONS on every path, replacing the OPTIONS-under-/api/auth/ rule
it subsumes) instead of a hardcoded method check inside Middleware,
so "which requests skip auth" has one mechanism. Preflights now flow
through the same authenticate-then-public-rules path as other public
routes, which also lets a credentialed OPTIONS request keep its user
context.

Update the route-coverage allowlist and the near-prefix lookalike
table for the new semantics (OPTIONS is public on every path by
design; near-prefix privacy stays pinned by the non-OPTIONS entries),
and fix the authentication docs' exempt-route enumeration, which
still described OPTIONS as an /api/auth/-only exemption.

Closes #1649.

Mirror of the existing /v1/tokenize path, requested by @benniekiss in
the issue thread for "complete API workflow" use cases that need to
turn token IDs back into text without local processing.

- Add Detokenize gRPC RPC with DetokenizeRequest{tokens} /
  DetokenizeResponse{content} messages.
- Implement in the llama.cpp backend using common_token_to_piece, the
same primitive TokenizeString already uses internally.
- Other backends inherit the default Unimplemented from base.Base, in
line with how Detect, Rerank, etc. are gated per-backend.
- Wire up the Go gRPC interface, server, client, and in-process embed
  wrapper alongside their TokenizeString counterparts.
- Add the schema types, ModelDetokenize wrapper, HTTP handler, route
registration, RouteFeatureRegistry entry (gated by FeatureTokenize so
no new feature flag is needed), and the discovery map entry under
  ai_functions.
- Regenerated swagger reflects the new endpoint and types.
- Update authentication.md to list /v1/detokenize alongside /v1/tokenize.

* fix(kokoros): implement detokenize in the Rust backend service

The Detokenize RPC added in this PR grows the tonic-generated Backend
trait. Unlike the other languages there is nothing to inherit a default
from — Rust trait impls must list every method — so
backend/rust/kokoros failed to compile:

error[E0046]: not all trait items implemented, missing: `detokenize`
    --> src/service.rs:72:1
  72 | impl Backend for KokorosService {

Go backends pick up the Unimplemented default from base.Base, and the
generated C++/Python servicer bases default to UNIMPLEMENTED, which is
why the Rust backend was the only one that broke. kokoros is the sole
Rust crate in the tree, so this is the full extent of the fallout.

Return Status::unimplemented("Not supported"), matching how this same
file already gates tokenize_string and ~20 other unsupported RPCs.

Fixes the tests-kokoros and backend-jobs-singlearch-4 (-cpu-kokoros)
failures on the previous head.

Richard Palethorpeandlocalai-org-maint-bot 9058a2bb46 feat: Add 3d generation UI/API and trellis2cpp backend (#10979)
* feat(3d): add Generate3D RPC, FLAG_3D capability, and /v1/3d/generations endpoint

Adds the plumbing for image-conditioned 3D asset generation (binary
glTF / GLB output), modeled on the video generation path:

- backend.proto: Generate3D RPC + Generate3DRequest (staged image src,
glb dst, seed/step/cfg_scale/texture_steps, quality and background
enums, params map for backend-specific extras)
- pkg/grpc: thread Generate3D through client, server, embed, base and
the backend interfaces; connection-evicting and distributed-node
wrappers (in-flight tracking + file staging) included
- core/config: FLAG_3D usecase (guessed only for the trellis2cpp
backend), '3d' canonical usecase string mapped to the Generate3D
method, and a '3d' output modality
- REST: POST /v1/3d/generations (+ unversioned alias) returning
OpenAIResponse with a /generated-3d URL or b64_json; conditioning
image accepted as URL, base64, or data URI; quality/background
validated at the edge; .glb served as model/gltf-binary
- auth: '3d' route feature (default ON); /api/instructions entry

* feat(trellis2cpp): add the trellis2.cpp image-to-3D backend

Wraps localai-org/trellis2cpp (C++/GGML port of Microsoft TRELLIS.2,
pbr-textures branch) as a Go+purego backend, following the
stablediffusion-ggml pattern:

- backend/go/trellis2cpp: purego bindings to the flat C ABI (v9,
asserted at startup), eager pipeline load with model-set validation
  (refuses non-trellis GGUFs; degrades coarse/geometry-only/textured
exactly like the upstream demo), Generate3D via t2_generate +
t2_bake_glb writing a binary glTF to dst. Weight-free unit tests
cover resolution/validation/param mapping — CI never downloads the
multi-GB GGUF set or runs inference.
- CPU SIMD variants build into per-variant directories (the shared
libggml sonames collide across variants, unlike sd-ggml's flat
  renamed-.so scheme); run.sh picks one via /proc/cpuinfo.
- CI wiring: backend-matrix entries (cpu, cuda12/13, vulkan
  amd64+arm64, l4t, l4t-cuda13, darwin metal), index.yaml meta +
latest/master image entries, bump_deps tracking of the pbr-textures
branch, changed-backends.js mapping, top-level Makefile targets.
- Importer: auto-detects trellis GGUF repos/URIs (registered before
llama-cpp so the .gguf match isn't stolen) and expands any trellis
URI to the full 10-file component set spanning the three LocalAI-io
  HF repos.
- Gallery: trellis2-4b (full PBR + 1024 cascade) and
  trellis2-4b-geometry (512 untextured) with verified sha256s.

* feat(ui): 3D generation page with native GLB viewer and IndexedDB history

Adds a Studio tab + /app/3d page for the new image-to-3D endpoint:

- GlbViewer ports the trellis2cpp demo's dependency-free WebGL2
renderer (quaternion trackball, metallic-roughness PBR, ACES,
hidden-line wireframe with a bounded index budget) and pairs it with
a minimal GLB parser for the two forms t2_bake_glb emits — dense
  vertex-PBR (linear COLOR_0 + _METALLIC_ROUGHNESS, uploaded as
normalized integers) and the opt-in UV-atlas textured form. Parsing
happens before any GL so stats and errors render without WebGL2.
- use3DHistory stores past generations (params, input thumbnail, and
the GLB blob itself) in IndexedDB with keep-newest-20 eviction —
GLBs are multi-MB binaries localStorage can't hold — and the page
offers a download button for the active GLB.
- Wiring: CAP_3D capability constant (FLAG_3D — the exact string
/api/models/capabilities serves), threeDApi, router entries, Studio
tab, vite dev proxy, en locale keys.
- e2e: render-smoke entry plus a focused spec that feeds a real
one-triangle vertex-PBR GLB through the parser/viewer and exercises
IndexedDB persistence, selection, deletion, and API errors.

* fix(3d): address API correctness and UX issues

* feat(3d): add previewable print remeshing

Add a single-detail CGAL Alpha Wrap workflow for existing Trellis GLBs, including PBR reprojection, API documentation, tracing, and an in-browser preview before download.

Allow the remesh route to enforce its 512 MiB upload cap independently of the smaller global default so generated high-resolution meshes can be processed.

* fix(kokoros): implement Generate3D stub for new proto RPC

The Generate3D RPC added to backend.proto for the trellis2cpp backend
made tonic's generated Backend trait require generate3_d, breaking the
kokoros-grpc build. Return unimplemented like the other unsupported
modalities.

LocalAI [bot]andEttore Di Giacinto 4056283aa4 [voice] feat: add managed voice cloning profiles (#10799)
* feat(ui): add voice library workflow

* feat(voice): add managed voice cloning profiles

Make reusable reference voices manageable through the admin API instead of requiring model-directory and YAML edits. Discover compatible installed and gallery models from server-side backend capabilities, retain explicit model configuration controls, and stage saved references for supported backends.

Expose profile management through REST and MCP, document backend-specific behavior, and cover the workflow from profile creation through real Qwen3-TTS synthesis. Harden the agent-job HTTP test against completion racing cancellation.

LocalAI [bot]andEttore Di Giacinto a0ed395cf9 fix(auth): accept EC/PS/EdDSA-signed OIDC ID tokens, not just RS256 (#10736)
The OIDC verifier was built with a bare oidc.Config{ClientID: ...}, so
go-oidc applied its default of accepting RS256-signed ID tokens only. An
identity provider configured with an EC signing key (e.g. Authentik) issues
ES256-signed tokens, and the callback failed verification with:

failed to verify ID token: oidc: malformed jwt: unexpected signature
  algorithm "HS256"; expected ["RS256"]

surfacing to the user as HTTP 500 "failed to fetch user info" (#10677; the
underlying cause became visible after the logging fix in #10679).

Set SupportedSigningAlgs to the standard asymmetric algorithms
(RS256/384/512, ES256/384/512, PS256/384/512, EdDSA). All are verified
against the provider's published JWKS. HS256 is intentionally excluded: it
is symmetric and would validate against the client secret, a different and
security-sensitive trust model.

Tested with a functional spec that signs an ES256 ID token and confirms it
verifies with the configured algorithms and is rejected under go-oidc's
RS256-only default (using oidc.StaticKeySet, no network).

Closes #10677

LocalAI [bot]andEttore Di Giacinto 9e41be4bfb fix(auth): log the real cause of OIDC/OAuth user-info failures (#10679)
The OAuth callback discarded the error returned by user-info resolution
before sending the generic 500, so real failures were completely opaque
in the logs: ID-token verification errors (e.g. issuer/audience mismatch
behind a reverse proxy), a missing id_token, claim-parse errors, or a
rejecting GitHub userinfo endpoint all collapsed into
"failed to fetch user info" with nothing logged.

Log the wrapped cause with xlog.Error (provider + error), matching the
code-exchange step just above it. The client-facing message is unchanged,
so no internal detail leaks to the browser.

LocalAI [bot]andEttore Di Giacinto f72046b5b5 fix(auth): make advisory locks dialect-aware and harden SQLite DSN (#10509)
* fix(auth): make advisory locks dialect-aware and harden SQLite DSN

Fixes #10506.

Two failures hit deployments that use the default SQLite auth database:

1. advisorylock executed PostgreSQL-only SQL (pg_advisory_lock /
pg_try_advisory_lock) unconditionally. On a SQLite auth DB the job
store, agent store and node registry migrations failed with
"no such function: pg_advisory_lock". WithLockCtx/TryWithLockCtx now
branch on the gorm dialect: PostgreSQL keeps the cross-process advisory
lock, every other dialect uses a context-aware, per-key in-process lock
(a SQLite auth DB is effectively single-process, so serializing within
   the process is sufficient).

2. The SQLite auth DSN set no busy timeout, so transient SQLITE_BUSY over
network-backed storage (SMB/CIFS/NFS, e.g. Azure Files) failed the auth
migration immediately with "database is locked". The DSN now sets
   _busy_timeout=5000 and _txlock=immediate (caller-supplied values are
preserved). WAL is intentionally not enabled since its shared-memory
mmap does not work over network filesystems. Docs note that PostgreSQL
should be used when the data directory lives on shared storage.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-opus-4-8 [Claude Code]

* test(jobs): regression test for #10506 SQLite job store migration

Exercises the exact caller chain that failed in the issue:
auth.InitDB(sqlite) -> jobs.NewJobStore -> advisorylock.WithLockCtx ->
AutoMigrate. Before the dialect-aware advisory lock fix this failed with
"no such function: pg_advisory_lock"; the test now asserts it migrates
cleanly on a SQLite auth DB.

LocalAI [bot]andEttore Di Giacinto 600dafd20b feat(ced): sound-event classification backend (CED audio tagger) (#10425)
* feat(ced): sketch sound-classification backend (CED audio tagger)

Wires ced.cpp (CED, 527-class AudioSet sound-event tagger; baby cry,
footsteps, glass, alarms, dog bark) into LocalAI as a Go/purego backend.

SKETCH (backend skeleton real; core REST wiring + CI/gallery is a checklist
in DESIGN.md):
- backend/backend.proto: new SoundDetection rpc + SoundClass messages
  (run `make protogen-go` to regenerate pkg/grpc/proto).
- backend/go/ced: main.go (purego dlopen libced.so + ced_capi.h),
goced.go (Ced gRPC backend: Load + SoundDetection), Makefile
  (clone-at-pin CED_VERSION, ggml static-PIC shared build), run.sh,
  package.sh, .gitignore.
- DESIGN.md: REST /v1/audio/classification wiring (handler/route/capability
registration checklist), gallery/index + CI registration, and a scoping
  note for the realtime/websocket live-recognition path (sliding-window
classify over the existing ws transport + voicegate; the ced C-API
per-PCM entry point is already window-friendly).

Backend code does not compile until protogen-go regenerates the pb types
and a libced.so is built (Makefile clones+builds it).

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* feat(ced): REST /v1/audio/classification endpoint + capability registration

Wires the ced sound-event classification backend (AudioSet audio tagger)
end to end through the REST surface, mirroring the transcription path.

- Handler: core/http/endpoints/openai/sound_classification.go parses the
multipart audio upload, temp-files it, resolves the model config and
calls the SoundDetection RPC; returns {model, detections[]} JSON.
- Backend wrapper: core/backend/sound_classification.go (ModelSoundDetection)
loads the model and normalizes the proto response into schema types.
- Schema: core/schema/sound_classification.go (SoundClassificationResult).
- gRPC layer: SoundDetection wired through the LocalAI wrapper (interface,
Backend client, Client, embed, server, base default) so the loader-typed
client exposes the RPC; proto regenerated via make protogen-go.
- Route: POST /v1/audio/classification (+ /audio/classification alias) with
  the audio/multipart default-model middleware in routes/openai.go.
- Capability surfaces: swagger @Tags/@Router on the handler; FLAG_SOUND_
CLASSIFICATION usecase flag + UsecaseSoundClassification + UsecaseInfoMap +
GuessUsecases + ModalityGroups + GetAllModelConfigUsecases; meta usecase
option; /api/instructions audio area updated; auth RouteFeatureRegistry +
FeatureAudioClassification (APIFeatures, default ON) + FeatureMetas; UI
  usecaseFilters, capabilities.js CAP_SOUND_CLASSIFICATION, Models.jsx filter
  + i18n; docs page features/audio-classification.md + whats-new + crosslink.

* feat(ced): realtime sound-event detection over the websocket API

When a realtime pipeline configures a sound-classification model, each
VAD-committed utterance (the same window the transcription path produces)
is also run through the CED sound-event classifier and the scored AudioSet
tags are emitted as a new server event. No new backend rpc is needed: the
SoundDetection gRPC method already exists on this branch.

- config: add Pipeline.SoundDetection (yaml/json sound_detection,omitempty)
  beside Transcription/VAD.
- realtime: add Model.SoundDetection(ctx, audio, topK, threshold) to the
ModelInterface; implement it on wrappedModel and transcriptOnlyModel by
  calling backend.ModelSoundDetection with the session's sound-classification
model config (mirrors how Transcribe dispatches). Load the optional config
in newModel / newTranscriptionOnlyModel; nil config keeps it additive.
- types: add ConversationItemSoundDetectionEvent (item_id, content_index,
  detections[]{label,score,index}) with type conversation.item.sound_detection,
its ServerEventType constant and MarshalJSON, mirroring the transcription
  completed event.
- realtime: add emitSoundDetection (unary path: classify the committed window,
build the event, t.SendEvent) and wire it at the utterance-commit hook right
after emitTranscription; gated on session.SoundDetectionEnabled (resolved
from Pipeline.SoundDetection at session setup, defaults top_k=5, threshold=0).
Its error is logged via xlog but never aborts the turn.
- test: Ginkgo specs for emitSoundDetection (tags emitted, empty detections,
classifier error) plus a SoundDetection method on the fakeModel double.

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* fix(ced): implement SoundDetection in nodes backend test doubles

The SoundDetection method added to the grpc backend interface left two
test doubles (fakeBackendClient, fakeGRPCBackend) incomplete, so
core/services/nodes failed to compile under `go vet`/`go test` (go build
missed it: the doubles live in _test.go). Add the method to both,
mirroring their existing Detect mock. Repairs CI for the nodes package.

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* feat(ced): decouple realtime sound detection from VAD (sound-only sessions)

Sound-event detection must activate on sounds, not speech, so it no longer
runs through the voice VAD/transcription path. A sound-detection-only
pipeline (sound_detection set, no transcription/LLM) now:

- is accepted by prepareRealtimeConfig (sound_detection counts as a pipeline
  stage),
- builds a lightweight model via newSoundDetectionOnlyModel (no VAD/STT/LLM/TTS
  loaded), and
- defaults the session to turn_detection none (no VAD) with no transcription
stage, so the client drives windowing via input_audio_buffer.commit
(option A: client-side sliding window). The per-PCM C-API already supports
  arbitrary windows.

commitUtterance gains a sound-only branch: it emits the
conversation.item.sound_detection event (scored AudioSet tags) and stops -
no transcription, no LLM response. generateResponse is now guarded on a
transcription stage being present, so a sound-only turn never invokes the LLM.

Existing transcription/VAD sessions are unchanged (additive). Added a
commitUtterance sound-only Ginkgo spec asserting it emits the sound event and
neither transcribes nor generates a response. go vet + golangci-lint
(new-from-merge-base) clean; openai suite green.

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* feat(ced): register sound-classification backend in gallery + CI

Mechanical backend-image registration for the ced sound-event classifier,
mirroring the parakeet-cpp Go/purego backend everywhere it is wired up.

- .github/backend-matrix.yml: add the ced build matrix, field-for-field copies
of the parakeet-cpp entries (cpu amd64/arm64, cublas cuda 12/13 amd64,
  l4t cuda-13 arm64, l4t-jetpack cuda-12 arm64, sycl f32/f16, vulkan
amd64/arm64, rocm hipblas, and the metal darwin entry), changing only
backend and tag-suffix. dockerfile stays ./backend/Dockerfile.golang.
- backend/index.yaml: add the &ced meta anchor (capabilities map per platform)
plus ced-development and the per-arch image entries, each uri/mirror
tag-suffix matching the matrix exactly. The model gallery (GGUF) entry is
intentionally deferred pending the HuggingFace publish (TODO note inline).
- scripts/changed-backends.js: add an explicit item.backend === "ced" branch in
inferBackendPath mapping to backend/go/ced/, same mechanism and ordering as
the parakeet-cpp branch (before the generic golang fallthrough).
- .github/workflows/bump_deps.yaml: register mudler/ced.cpp -> CED_VERSION in
backend/go/ced/Makefile so the daily bot bumps the pin.
- swagger/{docs.go,swagger.json,swagger.yaml}: regenerated via make swagger so
the existing /v1/audio/classification annotations land in the generated spec.

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* feat(ced): server-side windowing for realtime sound detection (option B)

Adds an optional server-driven sliding-window classifier so a sound-only
realtime client only has to stream audio (no input_audio_buffer.commit):

- Pipeline.sound_detection_window_ms / sound_detection_hop_ms config knobs.
When both > 0 on a sound-only session, the server classifies the last
window of streamed audio every hop and emits a conversation.item.sound_
detection event; the input buffer is trimmed to one window so a long
stream stays bounded. When unset, the session stays client-driven
(option A). Runs independent of VAD (sound events are not speech).
- handleSoundWindow (ticker) + classifySoundWindow (one tick, extracted so
it is unit-testable) + writeWindowWAV, which declares the true
InputSampleRate (NewWAVHeaderWithRate) so the classifier resamples
correctly. Goroutine is started after toggleVAD and torn down with the
  session (close + wg.Wait).
- Register pipeline.sound_detection (+window_ms/hop_ms) in the config meta
registry; the earlier realtime commit added pipeline.sound_detection
without a registry entry, failing TestAllFieldsHaveRegistryEntries. This
fixes that and covers the two new knobs.

Tests: classifySoundWindow emits an event + trims the buffer to one window,
no-ops on too-little audio; writeWindowWAV declares the given sample rate.
go build/vet + golangci-lint (new-from-merge-base) clean; config + openai
suites green.

* feat(ced): add ced-base GGUF model gallery entries (f16 + q8_0)

The ced-base weights are now published at mudler/ced-base-gguf (Apache-2.0,
converted from mispeech/ced-base). Adds gallery/ced.yaml (backend: ced +
known_usecases: sound_classification) and two gallery/index.yaml entries
(ced-base-f16 default, ced-base-q8 smallest) with sha256-pinned files, and
removes the now-resolved TODO from backend/index.yaml.

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* feat(ced): add tiny/mini/small GGUF model gallery entries

Publishes the rest of the CED family (same architecture, metadata-driven port
verified end-to-end on ced-tiny) to mudler/ced-{tiny,mini,small}-gguf and adds
their f16 + q8_0 gallery entries:

  ced-tiny (5.5M, edge/Pi-class) f16 11MB / q8_0 6MB
  ced-mini (9.6M) f16 19MB / q8_0 11MB
  ced-small (22M) f16 42MB / q8_0 23MB

All sha256-pinned. ced-base remains the accuracy default.

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* chore(ced): point gallery entries at the consolidated mudler/ced-gguf repo

All CED quantizations (tiny/mini/small/base, f16/q8_0) now live in a single
HuggingFace repo, mudler/ced-gguf, instead of per-model repos. Repoint the 8
gallery model entries' urls + file uris accordingly. sha256 and filenames are
unchanged.

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* chore(ced): bump CED_VERSION to the short-clip fix

Pin the ced backend to ced.cpp 99c6ed3, which fixes a crash on any clip
shorter than target_length (~10.11s): time_pos_embed was added at its full
63-frame grid instead of being sliced to the clip's actual time grid, tripping
ggml_can_repeat in ggml_add. Surfaced by the live realtime e2e (sub-10s
windows) and gated with a short-clip parity test upstream.

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* docs(ced): list ced.cpp as a LocalAI-team engine + backend-guide directive

- README.md: add ced.cpp to the "native C/C++/GGML engines developed and
maintained by the LocalAI project" table.
- docs/content/features/backends.md: add a Sound Classification backend
category (sound-event classification / audio tagging) listing ced.cpp.
- .agents/adding-backends.md: add a "Documenting the backend" section and two
verification-checklist items requiring new backends to be documented in the
backends.md category list, and in-house native engines to be added to the
README maintained-engines table. This directive was missing.

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* chore(ced): repin CED_VERSION to the v0.1.0 release commit

ced.cpp history was squashed into a single release commit (tagged v0.1.0), so
the previous pin (99c6ed3) no longer exists upstream. Pin to c04ac14, the
v0.1.0 release commit, so the backend builds against a commit that exists.

Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* fix(ced): silence gosec G304/G103 + govet unsafeptr on audited paths

- sound_classification.go: os.Create(dst) where dst = temp dir + path.Base of
the upload (no traversal). #nosec G304, matching the depth-anything-cpp handler.
- goced.go: reading a NUL-terminated C string from a libced-owned buffer.
  #nosec G103 (gosec) + //nolint:govet (golangci-lint's unsafeptr check), since
the uintptr is a C-owned malloc'd buffer, not Go-GC memory.

Richard Palethorpe 3fa7b2955c feat(pii): NER tier engine — privacy-filter.cpp backend + NER-centric PII filter (#10360)
Squashed feat/pii-ner-tier-engine rebased onto master (was 45 commits; see
backup/pii-ner-tier-engine-prerebase). Net change:

- privacy-filter.cpp: standalone GGML engine for the openai-privacy-filter
PII/NER token classifier, wired as a LocalAI gRPC backend (CPU/CUDA/Vulkan).
TokenClassify moves off the patched llama.cpp path onto this backend.
- PII filter reworked to be NER-centric (encoder/NER detection tier scanning
whole conversations as one document), with a recreated bounded restricted-
regex secret-matching pattern detector tier alongside it (per-model
  pii_detection.builtins / .patterns + core/services/routing/piipattern).
- Detection labelled by source (ner vs pattern); backend trace / confidence /
debug observability; analyze/redact exposed as a synchronous API.
- Instance-wide default detector policy + per-usecase default-on; request
filtering extended to completions, embeddings, edits & Ollama.
- React UI: NER-centric PII editor, detector-models table, pattern/builtins
  editor, middleware default-policy UI.
- Gallery: privacy-filter-multilingual token-classify model + NER install
filter; token_classify known_usecase; batch sized to context for NER models.
privacy-filter backend registered in the backend gallery (cpu/vulkan/cuda-13
meta + image entries with a capabilities map) matching its CI matrix jobs,
and an /import-model auto-detect importer (PrivacyFilterImporter, narrow
privacy-filter GGUF detection) replacing the prior pref-only registration.

Reconciled against master's independent evolution:

- Dropped master's PIIPatternOverrides feature (global-pattern runtime
  overrides + /api/pii/patterns API + runtime_settings.json persistence). The
per-model NER + pattern-detector design supersedes it; it was built on the
global redactor pattern set this branch replaced.
- Reverted the llama.cpp Score carry-patch (0006-server-task-type-score):
removed the patch and restored master's grpc-server.cpp Score RPC (direct
  llama_decode, slot-loop bypass) and LLAMA_VERSION pin, plus master's
  model_config validation forbidding score + chat/completion/embeddings on
llama-cpp. token_classify is unaffected (it runs on the privacy-filter
  backend, not llama-cpp).

Richard Palethorpe 12d1f3a697 security(http): refuse redirects on outbound clients via hardened pkg/httpclient (#10087)
LocalAI's outbound HTTP clients used Go's default redirect policy, which
follows up to 10 redirects. On a cross-host redirect Go forwards custom
request headers — including credential headers such as Anthropic's
x-api-key — to the redirect target (Go strips Authorization, Cookie and
WWW-Authenticate cross-host, but NOT arbitrary custom headers). An
attacker able to elicit a redirect from an upstream (a hijacked or
spoofed upstream, DNS trickery, or a malicious upstream_url) then
harvests the operator's provider API key.

This was first reported against the cloud-proxy / MITM PII path
(GHSA-3mj3-57v2-4636); the same class affects every other outbound
client. Rather than patch each call site, add pkg/httpclient as the one
sanctioned constructor for outbound HTTP and route everything through it.

pkg/httpclient:
  - New(...) refuses redirects, TLS 1.2 floor, no body
                         deadline (streaming/SSE safe)
  - NewWithTimeout(d) simple request/response calls
  - WithFollowRedirects opt-in following that still strips credential
headers on any cross-host hop; different
                         scheme/host/port == different origin, guarding
                         the curl CVE-2022-27774 port-confusion class
  - WithTransport(rt) keep a custom transport (IP-pin, HTTP/2, a
                         credential-injecting RoundTripper)
  - HardenedTransport() base transport with the TLS floor + bounded setup
  - Harden(c) apply the policy to a library-supplied *http.Client
  - NoRedirect the CheckRedirect policy; wraps ErrRedirectBlocked

Lint: a forbidigo rule flags http.DefaultClient and http.Get/Post/
PostForm/Head, pointing at pkg/httpclient (.golangci.yml,
.agents/coding-style.md). forbidigo cannot match the &http.Client{}
composite literal without also flagging legitimate *http.Client type
references, so that form is enforced by review.

Migrates every non-test outbound call site across core/, pkg/, cmd/, and
the Go backend (backend/go/cloud-proxy). Credential-bearing and
internal-RPC clients refuse redirects; download / CDN / registry clients
use WithFollowRedirects so they keep working while stripping secrets
cross-host. The only credential-bearing client that follows redirects is
the gated-download path (pkg/downloader/uri.go), which strips the token
on the cross-host hop to the CDN. Hardening this closes, in passing:
  - MCP remote-server bearer token leaking via a redirect (the
RoundTripper re-injected Authorization on every hop)
  - agent multimedia/webhook clients leaking user-supplied auth headers
  - cors_proxy following redirects, bypassing its SSRF IP-pin
  - downloader's authorized read path leaking the token cross-host

Fixes: GHSA-3mj3-57v2-4636 (cloud-proxy leaks operator provider API key
(x-api-key) to attacker host on cross-host redirect)

Richard Palethorpe 6a80e23733 feat(middleware): Model routing, PII filtering, Cloud model proxies (#9802)
Add a routing middleware stack and a cloud-proxy backend.

* cloud-proxy: a Go gRPC backend that forwards OpenAI- and
Anthropic-shaped chat requests to upstream providers, with an
optional translate mode (OpenAI request -> Anthropic /v1/messages
-> OpenAI response) and full tool-calling support.

* routing: admission control, content-aware model routing
  (embedding cache + classifier + rerank + Arch-Router score),
PII detection/redaction (regex + NER) with streaming filter and
  OpenAI/Anthropic adapters, and a per-user/per-key billing recorder
backed by GORM or in-memory storage.

* middleware: UsageMiddleware records usage via the billing recorder,
plus admission, route-model, usage-stamp and trace middlewares.

* observability: BackendTrace ring buffer stores full request bodies
(capped), MITM proxy emits structured trace events, and router
  classifier decisions surface at /api/router/decide.

* gallery: Arch-Router-1.5B (Q4_K_M and Q8_0).

* UI: cloud-proxy model-editor fields, classifier system-prompt and
score-normalization config, and a Traces page rendering request
  bodies.

LocalAI [bot]andEttore Di Giacinto f0cb02afb8 feat(usage): attribute Sources rows to user accounts in admin view (#9935)
The merged feature (#9920) let admins see per-API-key and per-source
totals but did not surface which user owned each key, and lumped
every user's Web UI traffic into a single global Web UI row. This
makes the admin Sources tab properly per-user attributable:

- KeyTotal gains UserID + UserName, populated from the snapshot the
usage middleware already records. The by_key roll-up now groups by
  (api_key_id, api_key_name, user_id, user_name).
- New SourceTotals.ByUserSource roll-up groups (source, user_id,
user_name) for sources without a key identity (web, legacy). Only
populated on the admin path (includeLegacy=true); the non-admin
endpoint stays unchanged for backwards compatibility.
- SourcesTable accepts showUserColumn={isAdmin}; admin view renders
a User column, makes the search match user name/id, and expands
Web UI / legacy pseudo-rows from the global aggregate to one row
  per user using by_user_source.

LocalAI [bot]andEttore Di Giacinto f15b9178ec feat(usage): track and visualise usage per API key (#9920)
* feat(usage): add Source, APIKeyID, APIKeyName columns to UsageRecord

Adds three additive columns plus UsageSource* constants. The columns
are auto-migrated by InitDB. APIKeyID is a nullable foreign reference
to UserAPIKey.ID; APIKeyName is snapshotted on each row so revoked
keys keep showing their name in history.

Refs: #9862
Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* feat(usage): backfill Source on pre-feature usage rows

InitDB now classifies any pre-existing usage_record with an empty
source: 'legacy-api-key' user -> legacy, everything else -> web.
The backfill is idempotent (only touches NULL/empty rows).

Refs: #9862
Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* feat(usage): add GetUserUsageBySource aggregator

Groups by (bucket, source, api_key_id, api_key_name). Filters out
legacy by default. Returns both per-bucket detail and roll-ups
(by_source, by_key sorted desc and capped at 200, grand_total).

The MAX(created_at) projection is iterated via Rows().Scan into a
string column and parsed manually because the SQLite driver surfaces
the aggregated timestamp as a string, which database/sql refuses to
scan directly into time.Time. Postgres returns a real timestamp; the
same string path handles its RFC3339 form too.

Refs: #9862
Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* fix(usage): log Rows() errors and assert LastUsed in tests

Adds rows.Err() and Rows() open-failure logging in
computeSourceTotals so silent data drops surface in logs. Logs on
parseLastUsedString format misses for the same reason. Strengthens
the snapshot-survival test to assert LastUsed is a recent timestamp,
locking the SQLite time-string parser behaviour.

Refs: #9862

* feat(usage): add admin GetAllUsageBySource with filters and truncation

Optional user_id and api_key_id filters (composed with AND). Legacy
bucket is included for admin callers. truncated=true when more than
200 distinct keys would be in the by_key roll-up.

Refs: #9862

* feat(auth): plumb auth_source and auth_apikey through Echo context

tryAuthenticate now sets auth_source on every successful branch
(web for session/Bearer-session, apikey for Bearer-key/x-api-key/
token-cookie, legacy for legacy env key match). For named-key
branches it also stores the resolved *UserAPIKey under auth_apikey
so downstream middlewares can snapshot id+name without re-validating.

Refs: #9862
Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* fix(auth): expand tryAuthenticate godoc and cover Bearer-session branch

Documents all three context-keys side effects (auth_source,
auth_apikey, _auth_session) plus the split of responsibilities with
the parent Middleware. Adds a test for the Bearer-as-session-token
classification so future regressions there fail loudly.

Refs: #9862

* feat(usage): UsageMiddleware records source + snapshots key name

Reads auth_source and auth_apikey from the Echo context (set by
auth.Middleware in the previous task). Snapshots UserAPIKey.ID and
Name onto each row so revoked keys remain readable in history.
Falls back to source=web when no auth_source is set (auth disabled
or unrecognised path).

Refs: #9862
Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* feat(usage): add /api/auth/usage/sources and admin variant

Self endpoint filters legacy server-side; admin endpoint includes
legacy and accepts user_id + api_key_id filters. Response includes
buckets, totals.{by_source, by_key, grand_total}, and a truncated
flag set when the per-key roll-up was capped at 200.

* docs(routes): mark test mirror handlers as keep-in-sync with production

The newTestAuthApp helper duplicates production route handlers
inline because it cannot use RegisterAuthRoutes (which requires a
*application.Application). Naming the source path on each mirror
makes the drift contract explicit for future maintainers.

* feat(ui): add Sources tab skeleton with data fetch

Adds Usage page tab that fetches /api/auth/usage/sources (or the
admin variant). Renders raw totals plus a placeholder key list;
real visualisations land in subsequent commits. Restructures the
existing tab button block so Models and Sources are visible to
non-admins (Users remains admin-only).

Refs: #9862

* feat(ui): source mix ribbon + searchable/sortable sources table

Replaces the SourcesTab placeholder rendering with two reusable
components: SourceMixRibbon (one segmented bar per source class)
and SourcesTable (search + sort + revoked-key dim). Pulls the
current API key list to detect revoked keys.

Refs: #9862
Signed-off-by: Ettore Di Giacinto <mudler@localai.io>

* fix(ui): skip revoked-key detection until the key list is known

existingKeyIds defaulted to an empty Set, which made every live
api_key row render as (revoked) during the brief window before
apiKeysApi.list() resolved, and permanently after a fetch failure.
Use null as the unknown state and suppress the revoked badge until
the parent provides a real Set.

* feat(ui): top-N stacked time chart and drill-in chip for Sources tab

Top 7 sources by total tokens get distinct colours; the rest roll up
into 'Other'. Clicking a row in the SourcesTable dims everything
except that series in the chart; the chip is the canonical clear.

Refs: #9862

* docs(usage): document per-API-key Sources tab and endpoints

Extends features/authentication.md Usage Tracking section with:
- A 'Sources' tab description and source-class taxonomy
- Endpoint documentation for /api/auth/usage/sources and the
  admin variant
- Response shape example with by_source / by_key / grand_total
- Migration note about pre-feature row backfill

* fix(usage): silence errcheck on deferred rows.Close

CI errcheck flagged the bare 'defer rows.Close()' in
computeSourceTotals. Wrap in a closure that discards the close
error explicitly; an error here is non-actionable since we have
already drained the rows and logged any iteration failure.

* refactor(usage): bound batcher intake and add Shutdown/FlushNow hooks

The pre-existing usage batcher had no cap on its add() path; the
usageMaxPending=5000 constant only guarded the re-queue path after
a failed write, leaving memory growth unbounded if the DB fell
behind. This commit:

- Adds the cap to add() so saturation drops new records (rate-limited
warn at 1/1024) instead of growing unbounded.
- Raises usageMaxPending to 50000 to absorb realistic inference bursts.
- Replaces the package-level batcher global with a mutex-guarded pair
plus a currentBatcher() accessor so Init / Shutdown cycles are
  race-free.
- Adds ShutdownUsageRecorder() for graceful drain on process exit
(not yet wired into app shutdown, just published).
- Adds FlushNow() for deterministic tests; the middleware suite no
longer needs 6s sleeps per spec and now runs in ~50ms instead of 18s.
- Re-queue on failed flush is now cap-aware: prepends as much of the
failed batch as fits alongside concurrent arrivals, instead of
dropping the whole batch when full.

* feat(usage): drain usage batcher on graceful shutdown

Registers ShutdownUsageRecorder with the existing
signals.RegisterGracefulTerminationHandler so SIGINT/SIGTERM
synchronously flushes any in-memory usage records before the
process exits. Without this, up to one flush interval (5s) of
recorded usage was lost when LocalAI restarted.

Richard Palethorpe 670259ce43 chore: Security hardening (#9719)
* fix(http): close 0.0.0.0/[::] SSRF bypass in /api/cors-proxy

The CORS proxy carried its own private-network blocklist (RFC 1918 + a
handful of IPv6 ranges) instead of using the same classification as
pkg/utils/urlfetch.go. The hand-rolled list missed 0.0.0.0/8 and ::/128,
both of which Linux routes to localhost — so any user with FeatureMCP
(default-on for new users) could reach LocalAI's own listener and any
other service bound to 0.0.0.0:port via:

  GET /api/cors-proxy?url=http://0.0.0.0:8080/...
  GET /api/cors-proxy?url=http://[::]:8080/...

Replace the custom check with utils.IsPublicIP (Go stdlib IsLoopback /
IsLinkLocalUnicast / IsPrivate / IsUnspecified, plus IPv4-mapped IPv6
unmasking) and add an upfront hostname rejection for localhost, *.local,
and the cloud metadata aliases so split-horizon DNS can't paper over the
IP check.

The IP-pinning DialContext is unchanged: the validated IP from the
single resolution is reused for the connection, so DNS rebinding still
cannot swap a public answer for a private one between validate and dial.

Regression tests cover 0.0.0.0, 0.0.0.0:PORT, [::], ::ffff:127.0.0.1,
::ffff:10.0.0.1, file://, gopher://, ftp://, localhost, 127.0.0.1,
10.0.0.1, 169.254.169.254, metadata.google.internal.

* fix(downloader): verify SHA before promoting temp file to final path

DownloadFileWithContext renamed the .partial file to its final name
*before* checking the streamed SHA, so a hash mismatch returned an
error but left the tampered file at filePath. Subsequent code that
operated on filePath (a backend launcher, a YAML loader, a re-download
that finds the file already present and skips) would consume the
attacker-supplied bytes.

Reorder: verify the streamed hash first, remove the .partial on
mismatch, then rename. The streamed hash is computed during io.Copy
so no second read is needed.

While here, raise the empty-SHA case from a Debug log to a Warn so
"this download had no integrity check" is visible at the default log
level. Backend installs currently pass through with no digest; the
warning makes that footprint observable without changing behaviour.

Regression test asserts os.IsNotExist on the destination after a
deliberate SHA mismatch.

* fix(auth): require email_verified for OIDC admin promotion

extractOIDCUserInfo read the ID token's "email" claim but never
inspected "email_verified". With LOCALAI_ADMIN_EMAIL set, an attacker
who could register on the configured OIDC IdP under that email (some
IdPs accept self-supplied unverified emails) inherited admin role:

  - first login: AssignRole(tx, email, adminEmail) → RoleAdmin
  - re-login: MaybePromote(db, user, adminEmail) → flip to RoleAdmin

Add EmailVerified to oauthUserInfo, parse email_verified from the OIDC
claims (default false on absence so an IdP that omits the claim cannot
short-circuit the gate), and substitute "" for the role-decision email
when verified=false via emailForRoleDecision. The user record still
stores the unverified email for display.

GitHub's path defaults EmailVerified=true: GitHub only returns a public
profile email after verification, and fetchGitHubPrimaryEmail explicitly
filters to Verified=true.

Regression tests cover both the helper contract and integration with
AssignRole, including the bootstrap "first user" branch that would
otherwise mask the gate.

* feat(cli): refuse public bind when no auth backend is configured

When neither an auth DB nor a static API key is set, the auth
middleware passes every request through. That is fine for a developer
laptop, a home LAN, or a Tailnet — the network itself is the trust
boundary. It is not fine on a public IP, where every model install,
settings change, and admin endpoint becomes reachable from the
internet.

Refuse to start in that exact configuration. Loopback, RFC 1918,
RFC 4193 ULA, link-local, and RFC 6598 CGNAT (Tailscale's default
range) all count as trusted; wildcard binds (`:port`, `0.0.0.0`,
`[::]`) are accepted only when every host interface is in one of those
ranges. Hostnames are resolved and treated as trusted only when every
answer is.

A new --allow-insecure-public-bind / LOCALAI_ALLOW_INSECURE_PUBLIC_BIND
flag opts out for deployments that gate access externally (a reverse
proxy enforcing auth, a mesh ACL, etc.). The error message lists this
plus the three constructive alternatives (bind a private interface,
enable --auth, set --api-keys).

The interface enumeration goes through a package-level interfaceAddrsFn
var so tests can simulate cloud-VM, home-LAN, Tailscale-only, and
enumeration-failure topologies without poking at the real network
stack.

* test(http): regression-test the localai_assistant admin gate

ChatEndpoint already rejects metadata.localai_assistant=true from a
non-admin caller, but the gate was open-coded inline with no direct
test coverage. The chat route is FeatureChat-gated (default-on), and
the assistant's in-process MCP server can install/delete models and
edit configs — the wrong handler change would silently turn the LLM
into a confused deputy.

Extract the gate into requireAssistantAccess(c, authEnabled) and pin
its behaviour: auth disabled is a no-op, unauthenticated is 403,
RoleUser is 403, RoleAdmin and the synthetic legacy-key admin are
admitted.

No behaviour change in the production path.

* test(http): assert every API route is auth-classified

The auth middleware classifies path prefixes (/api/, /v1/, /models/,
etc.) as protected and treats anything else as a static-asset
passthrough. A new endpoint shipped under a brand-new prefix — or a
new path that simply isn't on the prefix allowlist — would be
reachable anonymously.

Walk every route registered by API() with auth enabled and a fresh
in-memory database (no users, no keys), and assert each API-prefixed
route returns 401 / 404 / 405 to an anonymous request. Public surfaces
(/api/auth/*, /api/branding, /api/node/* token-authenticated routes,
/healthz, branding asset server, generated-content server, static
assets) are explicit allowlist entries with comments justifying them.

Build-tagged 'auth' so it runs against the SQLite-backed auth DB
(matches the existing auth suite).

* test(http): pin agent endpoint per-user isolation contract

agents.go's getUserID / effectiveUserID / canImpersonateUser /
wantsAllUsers helpers are the single trust boundary for cross-user
access on agent, agent-jobs, collections, and skills routes. A
regression there is the difference between "regular user reads their
own data" and "regular user reads anyone's data via ?user_id=victim".

Lock in the contract:
  - effectiveUserID ignores ?user_id= for unauthenticated and RoleUser
  - effectiveUserID honours it for RoleAdmin and ProviderAgentWorker
  - wantsAllUsers requires admin AND the literal "true" string
  - canImpersonateUser is admin OR agent-worker, never plain RoleUser

No production change — this commit only adds tests.

* fix(downloader): drop redundant stat in removePartialFile

The stat-then-remove pattern is a TOCTOU window and a wasted syscall —
os.Remove already returns ErrNotExist for the missing-file case, so trust
that and treat it as a no-op.

* fix(http): redact secrets from trace buffer and distribution-token logs

The /api/traces buffer captured Authorization, Cookie, Set-Cookie, and
API-key headers verbatim from every request when tracing was enabled. The
endpoint is admin-only but the buffer is reachable via any heap-style
introspection and the captured tokens otherwise outlive the request.
Strip those header values at capture time. Body redaction is left to a
follow-up — the prompts are usually the operator's own and JSON-walking
is invasive.

Distribution tokens were also logged in plaintext from
core/explorer/discovery.go; logs forward to syslog/journald and outlive
the token. Redact those to a short prefix/suffix instead.

* feat(auth): rate-limit OAuth callbacks separately from password endpoints

The shared 5/min/IP limit on auth endpoints is right for password-style
flows but too tight for OAuth callbacks: corporate SSO funnels many real
users through one outbound IP and would trip the limit. Add a separate
60/min/IP limiter for /api/auth/{github,oidc}/callback so callbacks are
bounded against floods without breaking shared-IP deployments.

* feat(gallery): verify backend tarball sha256 when set in gallery entry

GalleryBackend gained an optional sha256 field; the install path now
threads it through to the existing downloader hash-verify (which already
streams, verifies, and rolls back on mismatch). Galleries without sha256
keep working; the empty-SHA path still emits the existing
"downloading without integrity check" warning.

* test(http): pin CSRF coverage on multipart endpoints

The CSRF middleware in app.go is global (e.Use) so it covers every
multipart upload route — branding assets, fine-tune datasets, audio
transforms, agent collections. Pin that contract: cross-site multipart
POSTs are rejected; same-origin / same-site / API-key clients are not.
Also pins the SameSite=Lax fallback path the skipper relies on when
Sec-Fetch-Site is absent.

* feat(http): XSS hardening — CSP headers, safe href, base-href escape, SVG sandbox

Several closely related XSS-prevention changes spanning the SPA shell, the
React UI, and the branding asset server:

- New SecurityHeaders middleware sets CSP, X-Content-Type-Options,
X-Frame-Options, and Referrer-Policy on every response. The CSP keeps
script-src permissive because the Vite bundle relies on inline + eval'd
scripts; tightening that requires moving to a nonce-based policy.

- The <base href> injection in the SPA shell escaped attacker-controllable
Host / X-Forwarded-Host headers — a single quote in the host header
broke out of the attribute. Pass through SecureBaseHref (html.EscapeString).

- Three React sinks rendering untrusted content via dangerouslySetInnerHTML
switch to text-node rendering with whiteSpace: pre-wrap: user message
bodies in Chat.jsx and AgentChat.jsx, and the agent activity log in
AgentChat.jsx. The hand-rolled escape on the agent user-message variant
is replaced by the same plain-text path.

- New safeHref util collapses non-allowlisted URI schemes (most
importantly javascript:) to '#'. Applied to gallery `<a href={url}>`
links in Models / Backends / Manage and to canvas artifact links —
these come from gallery JSON or assistant tool calls and must be treated
  as untrusted.

- The branding asset server attaches a sandbox CSP plus same-origin CORP
to .svg responses. The React UI loads logos via <img>, but the same URL
is also reachable via direct navigation; this prevents script
execution if a hostile SVG slipped past upload validation.

* feat(http): bound HTTP server with read-header and idle timeouts

A net/http server with no timeouts is trivially Slowloris-able and leaks
idle keep-alive connections. Set ReadHeaderTimeout (30s) to plug the
slow-headers attack and IdleTimeout (120s) to cap keep-alive sockets.

ReadTimeout and WriteTimeout stay at 0 because request bodies can be
multi-GB model uploads and SSE / chat completions stream for many
minutes; operators who need tighter per-request bounds should terminate

* test(auth): pin PUT /api/auth/profile field-tampering contract

The handler uses an explicit local body struct (only name and avatar_url)
plus a gorm Updates(map) with a column allowlist, so an attacker posting
{"role":"admin","email":"...","password_hash":"..."} can't mass-assign
those fields. Lock that down with a regression test so a future
"let's just c.Bind(&user)" refactor breaks loudly.

* fix(services): strip directory components from multipart upload filenames

UploadDataset and UploadToCollectionForUser took the raw multipart
file.Filename and joined it into a destination path. The fine-tune
upload was incidentally safe because of a UUID prefix that fused any
leading '..' to a literal segment, but the protection is fragile.
UploadToCollectionForUser handed the filename to a vendored backend
without sanitising at all.

Strip to filepath.Base at both boundaries and reject the trivial
unsafe values ("", ".", "..", "/").

* fix(react-ui): validate persisted MCP server entries on load

localStorage is shared across same-origin pages; an XSS that lands once
can poison persisted MCP server config to attempt header injection or
to feed a non-http URL into the fetch path on subsequent loads.
Validate every entry: types must match, URL must parse with http(s)
scheme, header keys/values must be control-char-free. Drop anything
that doesn't fit.

* fix(http): close X-Forwarded-Prefix open redirect

The reverse-proxy support concatenated X-Forwarded-Prefix into the
redirect target without validation, so a forged header value of
"//evil.com" turned the SPA-shell redirect helper at /, /browse, and
/browse/* into a 301 to //evil.com/app. The path-strip middleware had
the same shape on its prefix-trailing-slash redirect.

Add SafeForwardedPrefix at the middleware boundary: must start with
a single '/', no protocol-relative '//' opener, no scheme, no
backslash, no control characters. Apply at both consumers; misconfig
trips the validator and the header is dropped.

* fix(http): refuse wildcard CORS when LOCALAI_CORS=true with empty allowlist

When LOCALAI_CORS=true but LOCALAI_CORS_ALLOW_ORIGINS was empty, Echo's
CORSWithConfig saw an empty allow-list and fell back to its default
AllowOrigins=["*"]. An operator who flipped the strict-CORS feature
flag without populating the list got the opposite of what they asked
for. Echo never sets Allow-Credentials: true so this isn't directly
exploitable (cookies aren't sent under wildcard CORS), but the
misconfiguration trap is worth closing. Skip the registration and warn.

* feat(auth): zxcvbn password strength check with user-acknowledged override

The previous policy was len < 8, which let through "Password1" and the
rest of the credential-stuffing corpus. LocalAI has no second factor
yet, so the bar needs to sit higher.

Add ValidatePasswordStrength using github.com/timbutler/zxcvbn (an
actively-maintained fork of the trustelem port; v1.0.4, April 2024):
- min 12 chars, max 72 (bcrypt's truncation point)
- reject NUL bytes (some bcrypt callers truncate at the first NUL)
- require zxcvbn score >= 3 ("safely unguessable, ~10^8 guesses to
break"); the hint list ["localai", "local-ai", "admin"] penalises
passwords built from the app's own branding

zxcvbn produces false positives sometimes (a strong-looking password
that happens to match a dictionary word) and operators occasionally
need to set a known-weak password (kiosk demos, CI rigs). Add an
acknowledgement path: PasswordPolicy{AllowWeak: true} skips the
entropy check while still enforcing the hard rules. The structured
PasswordErrorResponse marks weak-password rejections as Overridable
so the UI can surface a "use this anyway" checkbox.

Wired through register, self-service password change, and admin
password reset on both the server and the React UI.

* fix(react-ui): drop HTML5 minLength on new-password inputs

minLength={12} on the new-password input let the browser block the
form submit silently before any JS or network call ran. The browser
focused the field, showed a brief native tooltip, and that was that —
no toast, no fetch, no clue. Reproducible by typing fewer than 12
chars on the second password change of a session.

The JS-level length check in handleSubmit already shows a toast and
the server rejects with a structured error, so the HTML5 attribute
was redundant defence anyway. Drop it.

* fix(react-ui): bundle Geist fonts locally instead of fetching from Google

The new CSP correctly refused to apply styles from
fonts.googleapis.com because style-src is locked to 'self' and
'unsafe-inline'. Loosening the CSP would defeat its purpose; the
right fix is to stop reaching out to a third-party CDN for fonts on
every page load.

Add @fontsource-variable/geist and @fontsource-variable/geist-mono as
npm deps and import them once at boot. Drop the <link rel="preconnect">
and external stylesheet from index.html.

Side benefit: no third-party tracking via Referer / IP on every UI
load, no failure mode when offline / behind a captive portal.

* fix(react-ui): refresh i18n strings to reflect 12-char password minimum

The translations still said "at least 8 characters" everywhere — the
client-side toast on a too-short password change told the user the
wrong floor. Update tooShort and newPasswordPlaceholder /
newPasswordDescription across all five locales (en, es, it, de,
zh-CN) to match the real ValidatePasswordStrength rule.

* feat(auth): make password length-floor overridable like the entropy check

The 12-char minimum was a policy choice, not a technical invariant —
only "non-empty", "<= 72 bytes", and "no NUL bytes" are real bcrypt
constraints. Treating length-12 as a hard rule was inconsistent with
the entropy check (already overridable) and friction for use cases
where the account is just a name on a session, not a security
boundary (single-user kiosk, CI rig, lab demo).

Restructure ValidatePasswordStrength:
- Hard rules (always enforced): non-empty, <= MaxPasswordLength, no NUL byte
- Policy rules (skipped when AllowWeak=true): length >= 12, zxcvbn score >= 3

PasswordError now marks password_too_short as Overridable too. The
React forms generalised from `error_code === 'password_too_weak'` to
`overridable === true`, and the JS-side preflight length checks were
removed (server is source of truth, returns the same checkbox flow).

392fc9ce3d fix(auth): cascade user deletion across all owned data on PostgreSQL (#9702)
* fix(auth): cascade user deletion across all owned data on PostgreSQL

Deleting a user from the admin UI in distributed mode (PostgreSQL auth
DB) returned "user not found" even when the user clearly existed. The
old handler ignored result.Error and only checked RowsAffected, so a
foreign-key constraint violation surfaced as a misleading 404.

Two issues drove this:

1. invite_codes.created_by / used_by reference users(id) but the
InviteCode model declared the FKs without ON DELETE CASCADE. On
PostgreSQL the engine therefore rejected the user delete with NO
ACTION whenever the user had ever issued or consumed an invite. On
SQLite (default in single-node mode) FKs are not enforced, so the
   bug never appeared there.
2. Several owned tables were never cleaned up regardless of dialect:
user_permissions and quota_rules relied on CASCADE that does not
fire under SQLite, and usage_records have no FK at all and were
   left orphaned in every dialect.

Introduce auth.DeleteUserCascade which runs the full cleanup in a
single transaction: drop invites authored by the user, NULL used_by on
invites they consumed (preserves the audit trail), and explicitly wipe
sessions, API keys, permissions, quota rules, and usage metrics before
deleting the user. The in-memory quota cache is invalidated after
commit so a recreated user with the same id never sees stale entries.
The HTTP handler now maps the helper's errors to proper status codes —
real failures surface as 500 with the cause instead of being swallowed
as "not found".

Add Ginkgo regression coverage in core/http/auth/users_test.go and
core/http/routes/auth_test.go covering invite cleanup, used_by
null-out, full data wipe, and the FK-enforced original failure mode
(via PRAGMA foreign_keys=ON to mirror PostgreSQL behavior on SQLite).

* chore(deps): bump LocalAGI/LocalRecall — pull in go-fitz PDF extraction

Pulls LocalAGI@main (facd888) and LocalRecall@v0.6.0. The latter
swaps PDF text extraction from dslipak/pdf to gen2brain/go-fitz
(libmupdf bindings) and wraps it in a 60s goroutine timeout —
previously certain PDFs (broken xref tables, encrypted, image-only
without OCR) would hang indefinitely inside r.GetPlainText() and
poison the upload queue.

Pure dep bump, no LocalAI source changes. Indirect graph picks up
go-fitz + purego + ffi; drops dslipak/pdf.

Ettore Di Giacinto e86ade54a6 feat(api): add /v1/audio/diarization endpoint with sherpa-onnx + vibevoice.cpp (#9654)
* feat(api): add /v1/audio/diarization endpoint with sherpa-onnx + vibevoice.cpp

Closes #1648.

OpenAI-style multipart endpoint that returns "who spoke when". Single
endpoint instead of the issue's three-endpoint sketch (refactor /vad,
/vad/embedding, /diarization) — the typical client wants one call, and
embeddings can land later as a sibling without breaking this surface.

Response shape borrows from Pyannote/Deepgram: segments carry a
normalised SPEAKER_NN id (zero-padded, stable across the response) plus
the raw backend label, optional per-segment text when the backend bundles
ASR, and a speakers summary in verbose_json. response_format also accepts
rttm so consumers can pipe straight into pyannote.metrics / dscore.

Backends:

* vibevoice-cpp — Diarize() reuses the existing vv_capi_asr pass.
vibevoice's ASR prompt asks the model to emit
  [{Start,End,Speaker,Content}] natively, so diarization is a by-product
of the same pass; include_text=true preserves the transcript per
  segment, otherwise we drop it.

* sherpa-onnx — wraps the upstream SherpaOnnxOfflineSpeakerDiarization
  C API (pyannote segmentation + speaker-embedding extractor + fast
clustering). libsherpa-shim grew config builders, a SetClustering
  wrapper for per-call num_clusters/threshold overrides, and a
segment_at accessor (purego can't read field arrays out of
  SherpaOnnxOfflineSpeakerDiarizationSegment[] directly).

Plumbing: new Diarize gRPC RPC + DiarizeRequest / DiarizeSegment /
DiarizeResponse messages, threaded through interface.go, base, server,
client, embed. Default Base impl returns unimplemented.

Capability surfaces all updated: FLAG_DIARIZATION usecase,
FeatureAudioDiarization permission (default-on), RouteFeatureRegistry
entries for /v1/audio/diarization and /audio/diarization, audio
instruction-def description widened, CAP_DIARIZATION JS symbol,
swagger regenerated, /api/instructions discovery map updated.

Tests:

* core/backend: speaker-label normalisation (first-seen → SPEAKER_NN,
per-speaker totals, nil-safety, fallback to backend NumSpeakers when
  no segments).

* core/http/endpoints/openai: RTTM rendering (file-id basename, negative
  duration clamping, fallback id).

* tests/e2e: mock-backend grew a deterministic Diarize that emits
raw labels "5","2","5" so the e2e suite verifies SPEAKER_NN
  remapping, verbose_json speakers summary + transcript pass-through
(gated by include_text), RTTM bytes content-type, and rejection of
unknown response_format. mock-diarize model config registered with
known_usecases=[FLAG_DIARIZATION] to bypass the backend-name guard.

Docs: new features/audio-diarization.md (request/response, RTTM example,
sherpa-onnx + vibevoice setup), cross-link from audio-to-text.md, entry
in whats-new.md.

* fix(diarization): correct sherpa-onnx symbol name + lint cleanup

CI failures on #9654:

* sherpa-onnx-grpc-{tts,transcription} and sherpa-onnx-realtime panicked
at backend startup with `undefined symbol: SherpaOnnxDestroyOfflineSpeakerDiarizationResult`.
  Upstream's actual symbol is SherpaOnnxOfflineSpeakerDiarizationDestroyResult
(Destroy in the middle, not the prefix); the rest of the diarization
surface follows the same naming pattern. The mismatched name made
purego.RegisterLibFunc fail at dlopen time and crashed the gRPC server
before the BeforeAll could probe Health, taking down every sherpa-onnx
test job — not just the diarization-related ones.

* golangci-lint flagged 5 errcheck violations on new defer cleanups
  (os.RemoveAll / Close / conn.Close); wrap each in a `defer func() { _ = X() }()`
closure (matches the pattern other LocalAI files use for new code, since
pre-existing bare defers are grandfathered in via new-from-merge-base).

* golangci-lint also flagged forbidigo violations: the new
  diarization_test.go files used testing.T-style `t.Errorf` / `t.Fatalf`,
which are forbidden by the project's coding-style policy
(.agents/coding-style.md). Convert both files to Ginkgo/Gomega
Describe/It with Expect(...) — they get picked up by the existing
TestBackend / TestOpenAI suites, no new suite plumbing needed.

* modernize linter: tightened the diarization segment loop to
  `for i := range int(numSegments)` (Go 1.22+ idiom).

Verified locally: golangci-lint with new-from-merge-base=origin/master
reports 0 issues across all touched packages, and the four mocked
diarization e2e specs in tests/e2e/mock_backend_test.go still pass.

* fix(vibevoice-cpp): convert non-WAV input via ffmpeg + raise ASR token budget

Confirmed end-to-end against a real LocalAI instance with vibevoice-asr-q4_k
loaded and the multi-speaker MP3 sample at vibevoice.cpp/samples/2p_argument.mp3:
both /v1/audio/transcriptions and /v1/audio/diarization now succeed and
return correctly attributed speaker turns for the full clip.

Two latent issues surfaced once the diarization endpoint actually exercised
the backend with a non-trivial input:

1. vv_capi_asr only accepts WAV via load_wav_24k_mono. The previous code
passed the uploaded path straight through, so anything that wasn't
already a 24 kHz mono s16le WAV failed at the C side with rc=-8 and
the very unhelpful "vv_capi_asr failed". prepareWavInput shells out
   to ffmpeg ("-ar 24000 -ac 1 -acodec pcm_s16le") in a per-call temp
dir, matching the rate the model was trained on; both AudioTranscription
and Diarize now route through it. This is the same shape sherpa-onnx
uses (utils.AudioToWav), but vibevoice needs 24 kHz rather than 16 kHz
so we don't reuse that helper.

2. The C ABI's max_new_tokens defaults to 256 when 0 is passed. That's
fine for a five-second clip but not for anything past ~10 s — vibevoice
stops mid-JSON, the parse fails, and the caller sees a hard error.
Pass a much larger budget (16 384 ≈ ~9 minutes of speech at the
model's ~30 tok/s rate); generation stops at EOS so this is a cap
   rather than a target.

3. As a defensive belt-and-braces, mirror AudioTranscription's existing
"fall back to a single segment if the model emits non-JSON text"
pattern in Diarize, so partial / unusual model output never produces
a 500. This kept the endpoint usable while diagnosing (1) and (2),
and is the right behaviour to keep.

* fix(vibevoice-cpp): pass valid WAVs through directly so ffmpeg is not required at runtime

Spotted by tests-e2e-backend (1.25.x): the previous fix forced every
incoming audio file through `ffmpeg -ar 24000 ...`, which meant the
backend container — which does not ship ffmpeg — failed even for the
existing happy path where the caller already uploads a WAV. The
container-side error was:

rpc error: code = Unknown desc = vibevoice-cpp: ffmpeg convert to
24k mono wav: exec: "ffmpeg": executable file not found in $PATH

Reading vibevoice.cpp's audio_io.cpp, `load_wav_24k_mono` uses drwav and
already accepts any PCM/IEEE-float WAV at any sample rate, downmixes
multi-channel input to mono, and resamples to 24 kHz internally. So the
only inputs that genuinely need an external converter are non-WAV
formats (MP3, OGG, FLAC, ...).

Detect WAVs by RIFF/WAVE magic at bytes 0..3 / 8..11 and pass them
straight through with a no-op cleanup; everything else still goes
through ffmpeg with the same 24 kHz mono s16le target. The result:

* Container builds without ffmpeg keep working for WAV uploads
(the e2e-backends fixture is jfk.wav at 16 kHz mono s16le).
* MP3 and other non-WAV inputs still get the new ffmpeg conversion
path so the diarization endpoint stays useful.
* If the caller uploads a non-WAV but ffmpeg isn't on PATH, the
surfaced error is still descriptive enough to act on.

* fix(ci): make gcc-14 install in Dockerfile.golang best-effort for jammy bases

The LocalVQE PR (bb033b16) made `gcc-14 g++-14` an unconditional apt
install in backend/Dockerfile.golang and pointed update-alternatives at
them. That works on the default `BASE_IMAGE=ubuntu:24.04` (noble has
gcc-14 in main), but every Go backend that builds on
`nvcr.io/nvidia/l4t-jetpack:r36.4.0` — jammy under the hood — now fails
at the apt step:

E: Unable to locate package gcc-14

This blocked unrelated jobs:
backend-jobs(*-nvidia-l4t-arm64-{stablediffusion-ggml, sam3-cpp, whisper,
acestep-cpp, qwen3-tts-cpp, vibevoice-cpp}). LocalVQE itself is only
matrix-built on ubuntu:24.04 (CPU + Vulkan), so it doesn't actually
need gcc-14 anywhere else.

Make the gcc-14 install conditional on the package being available in
the configured apt repos. On noble: identical behaviour to today (gcc-14
installed, update-alternatives points at it). On jammy: skip the
gcc-14 stanza entirely and let build-essential's default gcc take over,
which is what the other Go backends compile with anyway.

Richard Palethorpe bb033b16a9 feat: add LocalVQE backend and audio transformations UI (#9640)
feat(audio-transform): add LocalVQE backend, bidi gRPC RPC, Studio UI

Introduce a generic "audio transform" capability for any audio-in / audio-out
operation (echo cancellation, noise suppression, dereverberation, voice
conversion, etc.) and ship LocalVQE as the first backend implementation.

Backend protocol:
- Two new gRPC RPCs in backend.proto: unary AudioTransform for batch and
bidirectional AudioTransformStream for low-latency frame-by-frame use.
This is the first bidi stream in the proto; per-frame unary at LocalVQE's
16 ms hop would be RTT-bound. Wire it through pkg/grpc/{client,server,
  embed,interface,base} with paired-channel ergonomics.

LocalVQE backend (backend/go/localvqe/):
- Go-Purego wrapper around upstream liblocalvqe.so. CMake builds the upstream
shared lib + its libggml-cpu-*.so runtime variants directly — no MODULE
wrapper needed because LocalVQE handles CPU feature selection internally
  via GGML_BACKEND_DL.
- Sets GGML_NTHREADS from opts.Threads (or runtime.NumCPU()-1) — without it
LocalVQE runs single-threaded at ~1× realtime instead of the documented
  ~9.6×.
- Reference-length policy: zero-pad short refs, truncate long ones (the
trailing portion can't have leaked into a mic that wasn't recording).
- Ginkgo test suite (9 always-on specs + 2 model-gated).

HTTP layer:
- POST /audio/transformations (alias /audio/transform): multipart batch
endpoint, accepts audio + optional reference + params[*]=v form fields.
Persists inputs alongside the output in GeneratedContentDir/audio so the
React UI history can replay past (audio, reference, output) triples.
- GET /audio/transformations/stream: WebSocket bidi, 16 ms PCM frames
(interleaved stereo mic+ref in, mono out). JSON session.update envelope
for config; constants hoisted in core/schema/audio_transform.go.
- ffmpeg-based input normalisation to 16 kHz mono s16 WAV via the existing
utils.AudioToWav (with passthrough fast-path), so the user can upload any
format / rate without seeing the model's strict 16 kHz constraint.
- BackendTraceAudioTransform integration so /api/backend-traces and the
Traces UI light up with audio_snippet base64 and timing.
- Routes registered under routes/localai.go (LocalAI extension; OpenAI has
no /audio/transformations endpoint), traced via TraceMiddleware.

Auth + capability + importer:
- FLAG_AUDIO_TRANSFORM (model_config.go), FeatureAudioTransform (default-on,
  in APIFeatures), three RouteFeatureRegistry rows.
- localvqe added to knownPrefOnlyBackends with modality "audio-transform".
- Gallery entry localvqe-v1-1.3m (sha256-pinned, hosted on
  huggingface.co/LocalAI-io/LocalVQE).

React UI:
- New /app/transform page surfaced via a dedicated "Enhance" sidebar
section (sibling of Tools / Biometrics) — the page is enhancement, not
generation, so it lives outside Studio. Two AudioInput components
(Upload + Record tabs, drag-drop, mic capture).
- Echo-test button: records mic while playing the loaded reference through
the speakers — the mic naturally picks up speaker bleed, giving a real
(mic, ref) pair for AEC testing without leaving the UI.
- Reusable WaveformPlayer (canvas peaks + click-to-seek + audio controls)
and useAudioPeaks hook (shared module-scoped AudioContext to avoid
hitting browser context limits with three players on one page); migrated
TTS, Sound, Traces audio blocks to use it.
- Past runs saved in localStorage via useMediaHistory('audio-transform') —
the history entry stores all three URLs so clicking re-renders the full
  triple, not just the output.

Build + e2e:
- 11 matrix entries removed from .github/workflows/backend.yml (CUDA, ROCm,
SYCL, Metal, L4T): upstream supports only CPU + Vulkan, so we ship those
two and let GPU-class hardware route through Vulkan in the gallery
  capabilities map.
- tests-localvqe-grpc-transform job in test-extra.yml (gated on
  detect-changes.outputs.localvqe).
- New audio_transform capability + 4 specs in tests/e2e-backends.
- Playwright spec suite in core/http/react-ui/e2e/audio-transform.spec.js
(8 specs covering tabs, file upload, multipart shape, history, errors).

Docs:
- New docs/content/features/audio-transform.md covering the (audio,
reference) mental model, batch + WebSocket wire formats, LocalVQE param
keys, and a YAML config example. Cross-links from text-to-audio and
  audio-to-text feature pages.

Ettore Di Giacinto b1a99436c7 feat(branding): admin-configurable instance name, tagline, and assets (#9635)
Adds a whitelabeling feature so an operator can replace the LocalAI
instance name, tagline, square logo, horizontal logo, and favicon from
the admin Settings page. Defaults fall back to the bundled assets so
existing installs are unaffected.

The public GET /api/branding endpoint is reachable pre-auth so the
login screen can render the configured branding before sign-in.
Mutating routes (POST/DELETE /api/branding/asset/:kind) remain
admin-only. Text fields (instance_name, instance_tagline) ride the
existing /api/settings flow; binary assets get a dedicated multipart
upload route that persists files under DynamicConfigsDir/branding/.

To prevent the Settings page's stale local state from clobbering an
upload on save, UpdateSettingsEndpoint preserves whatever the on-disk
asset filename fields are regardless of the body — /api/branding/asset/*
are the sole writers for those fields.

The MCP catalog gains get_branding and set_branding tools (text fields
only; file upload stays UI-only) plus a configure_branding skill prompt.

While wiring this up, the same restart-loss class of bug surfaced for
several existing fields whose RuntimeSettings entries were never read
by the startup loader. Fix loadRuntimeSettingsFromFile() to load:

  - branding (instance_name, instance_tagline, *_file basenames)
  - auto_upgrade_backends, prefer_development_backends
  - localai_assistant_enabled
  - open_responses_store_ttl
  - the 7 existing AgentPool fields (enabled, default/embedding model,
    chunking sizes, enable_logs, collection_db_path)

Also exposes 3 new AgentPool runtime settings (vector_engine,
database_url, agent_hub_url) via /api/settings + the Settings UI, with
the same load-on-startup wiring. The file watcher's manual-edit path
is intentionally not changed — the in-process API endpoints already
update appConfig directly, so the watcher is redundant for supported
flows and a separate refactor for everything else.

15 TDD specs cover the loader behaviour (1 branding + 11 adjacent + 3
new agent-pool); 2 specs cover the persistence helpers and the
clobber-prevention contract.

Ettore Di Giacinto bcef72b9c1 feat: localai assistant chat modality (#9602)
* fix(tests): inline model_test fixtures after tests/models_fixtures removal

The previous reorg removed tests/models_fixtures/ but core/config/model_test.go
still read CONFIG_FILE/MODELS_PATH env vars pointing into that directory, so
`make test` failed with "open : no such file or directory" on the readConfigFile
spec (the suite ran with --fail-fast and bailed before openresponses_test).

Inline the YAMLs (config/embeddings/grpc/rwkv/whisper) directly into the test
file, materialise them into a per-test tmpdir via BeforeEach, and drop the
env-var lookups. The test no longer depends on Makefile plumbing.

ToggleStateModelEndpoint, TogglePinnedModelEndpoint and
VRAMEstimateEndpoint into core/services/modeladmin so the same logic can
be called by non-HTTP clients (notably the in-process MCP server that
backs the LocalAI Assistant chat modality, landing in a follow-up commit).

The HTTP handlers shrink to thin shells that parse echo inputs, call the
matching helper, map typed errors (ErrNotFound, ErrConflict,
ErrPathNotTrusted, ErrBadAction, ...) to the existing HTTP status codes,
and render the existing response shapes. No REST-surface behaviour change;
the existing localai endpoint tests cover the regression net.

Adds focused unit tests for each helper against tmp-dir-backed
ModelConfigLoader fixtures (deep-merge patch, rename + conflict, path
separator guard, toggle/pin enable/disable, sync callback).

* feat(assistant): LocalAI Assistant chat modality with in-memory MCP server

Adds a chat modality, admin-only, that wires the chat session to an
in-memory MCP server exposing LocalAI's own admin/management surface as
tools. An admin can install models, manage backends, edit configs and
check status by chatting; the LLM calls tools like gallery_search,
install_model, import_model_uri, list_installed_models, edit_model_config
and surfaces the results.

Same Go package powers two modes:

  pkg/mcp/localaitools/

NewServer(client, opts) builds an MCP server that registers the
19-tool admin catalog. The LocalAIClient interface has two impls:

    - inproc.Client — calls services directly (no HTTP loopback,
no synthetic admin API key). Used in-process by the chat handler.
    - httpapi.Client — calls the LocalAI REST API. Used by the new
      `local-ai mcp-server --target=…` subcommand to control a remote
LocalAI from a stdio MCP host.

Tools and their embedded skill prompts are agnostic to which client
backs them. Skill prompts are markdown files under prompts/, embedded
via go:embed and assembled into the system prompt at server init.

Wiring:

  - core/http/endpoints/mcp/localai_assistant.go — process-wide holder
that spins up the in-memory MCP server once at Application start
using paired net.Pipe transports, then reuses LocalToolExecutor
(no fork) for every chat request that opts in.

  - core/http/endpoints/openai/chat.go — small branch ahead of the
    existing MCP block: when metadata.localai_assistant=true,
    defense-in-depth admin check + executor swap + system-prompt
injection. All downstream tool dispatch is unchanged.

  - core/http/auth/{permissions,features}.go — adds
FeatureLocalAIAssistant; gating happens at the chat handler entry
    plus admin-only `/api/settings`.

  - core/cli/{run.go,cli.go,mcp_server.go} —
LOCALAI_DISABLE_ASSISTANT flag (runtime-toggleable via Settings, no
restart), plus `local-ai mcp-server` stdio subcommand.

  - core/config/runtime_settings.go — `localai_assistant_enabled`
runtime setting; the chat handler reads `DisableLocalAIAssistant`
    live at request entry.

UI:

  - Home.jsx — prominent self-explanatory CTA card on first run
("Manage LocalAI by chatting"); collapses to a compact
"Manage by chat" button in the quick-links row once used,
    persisted via localStorage.
  - Chat.jsx — admin-only "Manage" toggle in the chat header,
"Manage mode" badge, dedicated empty-state copy, starter chips.
  - Settings.jsx — "LocalAI Assistant" section with the runtime
    enable toggle.
  - useChat.js — `localaiAssistant` flag on the chat schema; injects
    `metadata.localai_assistant=true` on requests when active.

Distributed mode: the in-memory MCP server lives only on the head node;
inproc.Client wraps already-distributed-aware services so installs
propagate to workers via the existing GalleryService machinery.

Documentation: `.agents/localai-assistant-mcp.md` is the contributor
contract — when adding an admin REST endpoint, also add a LocalAIClient
method, an inproc + httpapi impl, a tool registration, and a skill
prompt update; the AGENTS.md index links to it.

Out of scope (follow-ups): per-tool RBAC granularity for non-admin
read-only access; streaming mcp_tool_progress for long installs;
React Vitest rig for the UI changes.

* refactor(assistant): extract tool/capability/MiB/server-name constants

The MCP tool surface, capability tag set, server-name default, and the
chat-handler metadata key were repeated as bare string literals across
seven files. Renaming any one required hand-editing every call site and
risked code/test/prompt drift.

This pulls them into typed constants:

- pkg/mcp/localaitools/tools.go — Tool* constants for the 19 MCP tools,
  plus DefaultServerName.
- pkg/mcp/localaitools/capability.go — typed Capability + constants for
the capability tag set the LLM passes to list_installed_models. The
type rides through LocalAIClient.ListInstalledModels and replaces the
triplet of "embed"/"embedding"/"embeddings" with the single
  CapabilityEmbeddings.
- pkg/mcp/localaitools/inproc/client.go — bytesPerMiB constant for the
  VRAMEstimate byte→MB conversion.
- core/http/endpoints/mcp/tools.go — MetadataKeyLocalAIAssistant for the
"localai_assistant" request-metadata key consumed by the chat handler.

Tool registrations, the test catalog, the dispatch table, the validation
fixtures, and the fake/stub clients all reference the constants. The
embedded skill prompts under prompts/ keep their bare strings (go:embed
markdown can't import Go constants); the existing TestPromptsContain
SafetyAnchors guards the alignment.

No behaviour change. All tests pass with -race.

* refactor(modeladmin): typed Action for ToggleState/TogglePinned

The toggle/pin verbs were bare strings everywhere — handler signatures,
service implementations, MCP tool args, the fake/stub clients, the
inproc and httpapi LocalAIClient impls, plus 4 test files. A typo in
any caller silently fell through to the runtime "must be 'enable' or
'disable'" check.

Introduce core/services/modeladmin.Action (string alias) with
ActionEnable, ActionDisable, ActionPin, ActionUnpin and a small Valid
helper. The compiler now catches mismatches at every boundary; renames
ripple through one source of truth.

LocalAIClient.ToggleModelState/Pinned signatures change to take
modeladmin.Action. The package is brand-new and unreleased so this is
a free public-API tightening.

* fix(assistant): respect ctx cancellation on gallery channel sends

InstallModel, DeleteModel, ImportModelURI, InstallBackend and
UpgradeBackend all pushed onto galleryop channels with bare sends. If the
worker was paused or the buffer full, the chat-handler goroutine blocked
forever — the LLM kept polling and the request leaked.

Wrap the five sends in a sendModelOp/sendBackendOp helper that selects
on ctx.Done() so a cancelled chat completion surfaces context.Canceled
back to the LLM instead of hanging.

Adds inproc/client_test.go with a pre-cancelled-ctx regression test on
InstallModel; the helpers are shared so the same guarantee covers the
other four call sites.

* fix(assistant): graceful shutdown for in-memory holder and stdio CLI

Two related leaks:

- Application.start() built the LocalAIAssistantHolder but never wired
Close() into the graceful-termination chain — the in-memory MCP
transport pair stayed alive until process exit, and the goroutines
behind net.Pipe() didn't drain. Hook into the existing
  signals.RegisterGracefulTerminationHandler chain (same pattern as
  core/http/endpoints/mcp/tools.go:770).

- core/cli/mcp_server.go ran srv.Run with context.Background(); a
Ctrl-C from the host (Claude Desktop, mcphost, npx inspector) or a
SIGTERM from process supervision left the stdio loop reading from a
closed pipe. Switch to signal.NotifyContext to surface the signal
through ctx and let srv.Run drain.

* fix(assistant): typed HTTPError + propagate prompt walk error

The httpapi client detected "no such job" by substring-matching on the
error string ("404", "could not find") — brittle to status-code
formatting changes and to LocalAI fixing /models/jobs/:uuid to return a
proper 404. Replace with a typed *HTTPError whose Is() method honours
errors. Is(err, ErrHTTPNotFound). The 500-with-"could not find" branch
stays as a transitional fallback documented in Is().

Same change covers ListNodes' 404 fallback for the /api/nodes endpoint.

Adds httptest tests for both 404 and the legacy 500 path, plus a
direct errors. Is exposure test so external callers (the standalone
stdio CLI host) can match without re-string-parsing.

Also tightens prompts.SystemPrompt: panic when fs.WalkDir on the
embedded FS fails. The only realistic cause is a build-time //go:embed
misconfiguration; serving an empty system prompt to the LLM is much
worse than crashing init. TestSystemPromptIncludesAllEmbeddedFiles
catches regressions in CI.

* fix(modeladmin): atomic writes for model config files

The five sites that wrote model YAML used os.WriteFile, which opens
with O_TRUNC|O_WRONLY|O_CREATE. A crash mid-write left the destination
truncated and the model unloadable until manual repair. Pre-existing
behaviour inherited from the original endpoint handlers — fix once now
that there's a single helper.

Adds writeFileAtomic: writes to a sibling temp file, chmods, syncs via
Close(), then os.Rename. Same-directory temp keeps the rename atomic on
the same filesystem; cleanup runs on every error path so stray temps
don't accumulate. No new dependency.

Applied to:
- ConfigService.PatchConfig
- ConfigService.EditYAML (both rename and in-place branches)
- mutateYAMLBoolFlag (drives ToggleState + TogglePinned)

atomic_test.go covers the happy path plus a read-only-dir failure case
that asserts the original file is preserved (skipped on Windows where
the chmod trick is POSIX-specific).

* chore(assistant): prune dead code, mark stub, document conventions

Three small cleanups landing together:

- Drop the unused errNotImplemented sentinel from inproc/client.go.
All five methods that used to return it are wired to modeladmin
helpers since the Phase B commit; the package var is dead.

- Annotate httpapi.Client.GetModelConfig as a known stub. LocalAI's
/models/edit/:name returns rendered HTML, not JSON, so the standalone
CLI's get_model_config tool surfaces a clear error to the LLM. A
future JSON-only /api/models/config-yaml/:name endpoint is tracked in
the agent contract; FIXME points at it.

- Extend `.agents/localai-assistant-mcp.md` with a "Code conventions"
section that documents the audit-driven rules: tool/Capability/Action
constants, errors. Is over substring matching, ctx-aware channel
sends, atomic writes, and graceful shutdown. Refresh the file map so
it lists tools.go and capability.go and drops the removed
  tools_bootstrap.go.

The tools_models.go diff is a comment-only change explaining why the
ModelName empty-string check stays at the tool layer (consistency
across LocalAIClient implementations, since the SDK schema validator
only enforces presence, not non-empty).

* test(assistant): convert test files to ginkgo + gomega

The repo convention (per core/http/endpoints/localai/*_test.go,
core/gallery/**, etc.) is Ginkgo v2 with Gomega assertions. The tests I
introduced for the assistant feature used vanilla testing.T, which made
them stand out and stripped the BDD structure the rest of the suite
relies on.

Convert every test file in the assistant scope to Ginkgo:

  pkg/mcp/localaitools/
    dto_test.go — Describe("DTOs round-trip through JSON")
    prompts_test.go — Describe("SystemPrompt assembler")
    server_test.go — Describe("Server tool catalog"),
                              Describe("Tool dispatch"),
                              Describe("Tool error surfacing"),
                              Describe("Argument validation"),
                              Describe("Concurrent tool calls")
    parity_test.go — Describe("LocalAIClient parity"),
hosts the suite's single RunSpecs (the file
is package localaitools_test so it can
                              import httpapi without an import cycle;
Ginkgo aggregates Describes from both the
internal and external test packages into
                              one run).
    httpapi/client_test.go — Describe("httpapi.Client against the
                              LocalAI admin REST surface"),
                              Describe("ErrHTTPNotFound"),
                              Describe("Bearer token")
    inproc/client_test.go — Describe("inproc.Client cancellation")

  core/services/modeladmin/
    config_test.go — Describe("ConfigService") with sub-Describes
                              for GetConfig, PatchConfig, EditYAML
    state_test.go — Describe("ConfigService.ToggleState")
    pinned_test.go — Describe("ConfigService.TogglePinned")
    atomic_test.go — Describe("writeFileAtomic")

  core/http/endpoints/mcp/
    localai_assistant_test.go — Describe("LocalAIAssistantHolder")

Each package gets a `*_suite_test.go` with the standard
`RegisterFailHandler(Fail) + RunSpecs(t, "...")` boilerplate. Helpers
that previously took *testing.T (newTestService, writeModelYAML,
readMap, sortedStrings, sortGalleries, etc.) drop the *T receiver and
use Gomega Expectations directly. tmp dirs come from GinkgoT().TempDir().

No semantic change to test coverage — every original assertion has a
direct Gomega counterpart. All suites pass with -race.

* test+docs(assistant): drift detector for Tool ↔ REST route mapping

Honest gap from the audit: the parity_test.go suite only checks four
methods, and uses the same httpapi.Client for both sides — it asserts
stability of the DTO shapes, not equivalence between in-process and
HTTP. If a contributor adds an admin REST endpoint without an MCP tool,
or a tool without a matching httpapi route, both surfaces silently
diverge.

Add a coverage test plus stronger docs:

- pkg/mcp/localaitools/coverage_test.go introduces a hand-maintained
toolToHTTPRoute map: every Tool* constant must list the REST endpoint
the httpapi.Client hits (or "(none)" with a documented reason). Two
Ginkgo specs assert the map and the published catalog stay in sync —
one fails when a Tool is added without a route entry, the other fails
when a route entry references a tool that no longer exists. Verified
by removing the ToolDeleteModel entry locally; the test fired with a
clear message pointing the contributor at the file.

Deliberate non-test: we don't enumerate live admin REST routes from
  here. Walking the route registry requires booting Application;
parsing core/http/routes/localai.go is brittle. The "new admin REST
endpoint → MCP tool" direction stays a PR checklist item — see below.

- AGENTS.md gets a new Quick Reference bullet that calls out the rule
and points at the test by name.

- .agents/api-endpoints-and-auth.md tightens the existing "Companion:
MCP admin tool surface" subsection from "if useful, consider..." to
"MUST be considered, with three concrete outcomes (tool added,
deliberately skipped with documented reason, or forgot — which
breaks the contract)". Adds a checklist item at the bottom of the
  file's authoritative checklist.

* refactor(assistant): drop duplicate DTOs, surface canonical types

Audit feedback: localaitools/dto.go reinvented several types that already
existed in the codebase. Replace the duplicates with the canonical types
so the LLM-visible wire format stays aligned with the rest of LocalAI by
construction (no parallel structs to keep in sync).

Removed (and the canonical type now used by the LocalAIClient interface):

  localaitools.Gallery → config.Gallery
  localaitools.GalleryModelHit → gallery.Metadata
  localaitools.VRAMEstimate → vram.EstimateResult

Tightened scope:

  localaitools.Backend → kept, but reduced to {Name, Installed}.
                                  ListKnownBackends now returns
                                  []schema.KnownBackend (the canonical
type already used by REST /backends/known).

Kept with documented rationale:

  localaitools.JobStatus — galleryop.OpStatus has Error error which
marshals to "{}". JobStatus is the
                                 JSON-friendly mirror.
  localaitools.Node — nodes.BackendNode carries gorm internals
+ token hash; we expose only the
                                 LLM-relevant fields.
  ImportModelURIRequest/Response — schema.ImportModelRequest and
                                   GalleryResponse are wire-shaped, mine
                                   are LLM-shaped (BackendPreference flat,
                                   AmbiguousBackend exposed).

Side wins:

  - Drop bytesPerMiB; vram.EstimateResult already carries human-readable
display strings (size_display, vram_display) the LLM uses directly.
  - Drop the handler-private vramEstimateRequest in
    core/http/endpoints/localai/vram.go and bind directly into
    modeladmin.VRAMRequest (now JSON-tagged).

Both clients pass through these types now where possible (e.g.
ListGalleries in inproc.Client is a one-liner returning
AppConfig.Galleries; httpapi.Client.GallerySearch decodes straight into
[]gallery.Metadata).

All tests green with -race.

* refactor(assistant): extract REST route paths into named constants

httpapi.Client had 18 bare-string path sites scattered across methods.
Pull them into pkg/mcp/localaitools/httpapi/routes.go: static paths as
package-private constants, dynamic paths as small builders that handle
url.PathEscape on segment values.

No behaviour change. Drops the now-unused net/url import from client.go
since path escaping moved into routes.go alongside the path it applies to.

Local-only by design: the server-side registrations in
core/http/routes/localai.go remain bare strings. Sharing constants across
the pkg/ ↔ core/ boundary would invert the layering today; the existing
Tool↔REST drift-detector in coverage_test.go is the safety net for that
direction.

* docs(assistant): align with shipped UI and dropped bootstrap env vars

The LocalAI Assistant doc still described the older iteration:

- The in-chat toggle was renamed from "Admin" to "Manage" (the badge is
now "Manage mode" and the home page exposes a "Manage by chat" CTA).
- LOCALAI_ASSISTANT_BOOTSTRAP_MODEL / --localai-assistant-bootstrap-model
and the bootstrap_default_model tool were removed — admins pick a model
from the existing selector instead, no env-var configuration required.
- The shipped tool catalog includes import_model_uri but didn't appear in
the doc; bootstrap_default_model appeared but no longer exists.
- The Settings → LocalAI Assistant runtime toggle wasn't mentioned as the
preferred way to disable without restart.

Ettore Di Giacinto 181ebb6df4 feat: voice recognition (#9500)
* feat(voice-recognition): add /v1/voice/{verify,analyze,embed} + speaker-recognition backend

Audio analog to face recognition. Adds three gRPC RPCs
(VoiceVerify / VoiceAnalyze / VoiceEmbed), their Go service and HTTP
layers, a new FLAG_SPEAKER_RECOGNITION capability flag, and a Python
backend scaffold under backend/python/speaker-recognition/ wrapping
SpeechBrain ECAPA-TDNN with a parallel OnnxDirectEngine for
WeSpeaker / 3D-Speaker ONNX exports.

The kokoros Rust backend gets matching unimplemented trait stubs —
tonic's async_trait has no defaults, so adding an RPC without Rust
stubs breaks the build (same regression fixed by eb01c772 for face).

Swagger, /api/instructions, and the auth RouteFeatureRegistry /
APIFeatures list are updated so the endpoints surface everywhere a
client or admin UI looks.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-opus-4-7

* feat(voice-recognition): add 1:N identify + register/forget endpoints

Mirrors the face-recognition register/identify/forget surface. New
package core/services/voicerecognition/ carries a Registry interface
and a local-store-backed implementation (same in-memory vector-store
plumbing facerecognition uses, separate instance so the embedding
spaces stay isolated).

Handlers under /v1/voice/{register,identify,forget} reuse
backend.VoiceEmbed to compute the probe vector, then delegate the
nearest-neighbour search to the registry. Default cosine-distance
threshold is tuned for ECAPA-TDNN on VoxCeleb (0.25, EER ~1.9%).

As with the face registry, the current backing is in-memory only — a
pgvector implementation is a future constructor-level swap.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-opus-4-7

* feat(voice-recognition): gallery, docs, CI and e2e coverage

- backend/index.yaml: speaker-recognition backend entry + CPU and
CUDA-12 image variants (plus matching development variants).
- gallery/index.yaml: speechbrain-ecapa-tdnn (default) and
wespeaker-resnet34 model entries. The WeSpeaker SHA-256 is a
deliberate placeholder — the HF URI must be curl'd and its hash
filled in before the entry installs.
- docs/content/features/voice-recognition.md: API reference + quickstart,
  mirrors the face-recognition docs.
- React UI: CAP_SPEAKER_RECOGNITION flag export (consumers follow face's
precedent — no dedicated tab yet).
- tests/e2e-backends: voice_embed / voice_verify / voice_analyze specs.
Helper resolveFaceFixture is reused as-is — the only thing face/voice
share is "download a file into workDir", so no need for a new helper.
- Makefile: docker-build-speaker-recognition + test-extra-backend-
speaker-recognition-{ecapa,all} targets. Audio fixtures default to
  VCTK p225/p226 samples from HuggingFace.
- CI: test-extra.yml grows a tests-speaker-recognition-grpc job
mirroring insightface. backend.yml matrix gains CPU + CUDA-12 image
  build entries — scripts/changed-backends.js auto-picks these up.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-opus-4-7

* feat(voice-recognition): wire a working /v1/voice/analyze head

Adds AnalysisHead: a lazy-loading age / gender / emotion inference
wrapper that plugs into both SpeechBrainEngine and OnnxDirectEngine.

Defaults to two open-licence HuggingFace checkpoints:
  - audeering/wav2vec2-large-robust-24-ft-age-gender (Apache 2.0) —
age regression + 3-way gender (female / male / child).
  - superb/wav2vec2-base-superb-er (Apache 2.0) — 4-way emotion.

Both are optional and degrade gracefully when transformers or the
model can't be loaded — the engine raises NotImplementedError so the
gRPC layer returns 501 instead of a generic 500.

Emotion classes pass through from the model (neutral/happy/angry/sad
on the default checkpoint); the e2e test now accepts any non-empty
dominant gender so custom age_gender_model overrides don't fail it.

Adds transformers to the backend's CPU and CUDA-12 requirements.

* fix(voice-recognition): pin real WeSpeaker ResNet34 ONNX SHA-256

Replaces the placeholder hash in gallery/index.yaml with the actual
SHA-256 (7bb2f06e…) of the upstream
Wespeaker/wespeaker-voxceleb-resnet34-LM ONNX at ~25MB. `local-ai
models install wespeaker-resnet34` now succeeds.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-opus-4-7

* fix(voice-recognition): soundfile loader + honest analyze default

Two issues surfaced on first end-to-end smoke with the actual backend
image:

1. torchaudio.load in torchaudio 2.8+ requires the torchcodec package
for audio decoding. Switch SpeechBrainEngine._load_waveform to the
already-present soundfile (listed in requirements.txt) plus a numpy
linear resample to 16kHz. Drops a heavy ffmpeg-linked dep and the
codepath we never exercise (torchaudio's ffmpeg backend).

2. The AnalysisHead was defaulting to audeering/wav2vec2-large-robust-
   24-ft-age-gender, but AutoModelForAudioClassification silently
mangles that checkpoint — it reports the age head weights as
UNEXPECTED and re-initialises the classifier head with random
values, so the "gender" output is noise and there is no age output
at all. Make age/gender opt-in instead (empty default; users wire
   a cleanly-loadable Wav2Vec2ForSequenceClassification checkpoint via
age_gender_model: option). Emotion keeps its working Superb default.
Also broaden _infer_age_gender's tensor-shape handling and catch
runtime exceptions so a dodgy age/gender head never takes down the
   whole analyze call.

Docs and README updated to match the new policy.

Verified with the branch-scoped gallery on localhost:

* fix(voice-recognition): real CI audio fixtures + fixture-agnostic verify spec

Two issues surfaced after CI actually ran the speaker-recognition e2e
target (I'd curl-tested against a running server but hadn't run the
make target locally):

1. The default BACKEND_TEST_VOICE_AUDIO_* URLs pointed at
   huggingface.co/datasets/CSTR-Edinburgh/vctk paths that return 404
(the dataset is gated). Swap them for the speechbrain test samples
   served from github.com/speechbrain/speechbrain/raw/develop/ —
public, no auth, correct 16kHz mono format.

2. The VoiceVerify spec required d(file1,file2) < 0.4, assuming
file1/file2 were same-speaker. The speechbrain samples are three
different speakers (example1/2/5), and there is no easy un-gated
source of true same-speaker audio pairs (VoxCeleb/VCTK/LibriSpeech
are all license- or size-gated for CI use). Replace the ceiling
   check with a relative-ordering assertion: d(pair) > d(same-clip)
for both file2 and file3 — that's enough to prove the embeddings
encode speaker info, and it works with any three non-identical
clips. Actual speaker ordering d(1,2) vs d(1,3) is logged but not
   asserted.

Local run: 4/4 voice specs pass (Health, LoadModel, VoiceEmbed,
VoiceVerify) on the built backend image. 12 non-voice specs skipped
as expected.

* fix(ci): checkout with submodules in the reusable backend_build workflow

The kokoros Rust backend build fails with

failed to read .../sources/Kokoros/kokoros/Cargo.toml: No such file

because the reusable backend_build.yml workflow's actions/checkout
step was missing `submodules: true`. Dockerfile.rust does `COPY .
/LocalAI`, and without the submodule files the subsequent `cargo
build` can't find the vendored Kokoros crate.

The bug pre-dates this PR — scripts/changed-backends.js only triggers
the kokoros image job when something under backend/rust/kokoros or
the shared proto changes, so master had been coasting past it. The
voice-recognition proto addition re-broke it.

Other checkouts in backend.yml (llama-cpp-darwin) and test-extra.yml
(insightface, kokoros, speaker-recognition) already pass
`submodules: true`; this brings the shared backend image builder in
line.

Ettore Di Giacinto 20baec77ab feat(face-recognition): add insightface/onnx backend for 1:1 verify, 1:N identify, embedding, detection, analysis (#9480)
* feat(face-recognition): add insightface backend for 1:1 verify, 1:N identify, embedding, detection, analysis

Adds face recognition as a new first-class capability in LocalAI via the
`insightface` Python backend, with a pluggable two-engine design so
non-commercial (insightface model packs) and commercial-safe
(OpenCV Zoo YuNet + SFace) models share the same gRPC/HTTP surface.

New gRPC RPCs (backend/backend.proto):
  * FaceVerify(FaceVerifyRequest) returns FaceVerifyResponse
  * FaceAnalyze(FaceAnalyzeRequest) returns FaceAnalyzeResponse

Existing Embedding and Detect RPCs are reused (face image in
PredictOptions.Images / DetectOptions.src) for face embedding and
face detection respectively.

New HTTP endpoints under /v1/face/:
  * verify     — 1:1 image pair same-person decision
  * analyze    — per-face age + gender (emotion/race reserved)
  * register — 1:N enrollment; stores embedding in vector store
  * identify   — 1:N recognition; detect → embed → StoresFind
  * forget — remove a registered face by opaque ID

Service layer (core/services/facerecognition/) introduces a
`Registry` interface with one in-memory `storeRegistry` impl backed
by LocalAI's existing local-store gRPC vector backend. HTTP handlers
depend on the interface, not on StoresSet/StoresFind directly, so a
persistent PostgreSQL/pgvector implementation can be slotted in via a
single constructor change in core/application (TODO marker in the
package doc).

New usecase flag FLAG_FACE_RECOGNITION; insightface is also wired
into FLAG_DETECTION so /v1/detection works for face bounding boxes.

Gallery (backend/index.yaml) ships three entries:
  * insightface-buffalo-l   — SCRFD-10GF + ArcFace R50 + genderage
                              (~326MB pre-baked; non-commercial research use only)
  * insightface-opencv      — YuNet + SFace (~40MB pre-baked; Apache 2.0)
  * insightface-buffalo-s   — SCRFD-500MF + MBF (runtime download; non-commercial)

Python backend (backend/python/insightface/):
  * engines.py — FaceEngine protocol with InsightFaceEngine and
OnnxDirectEngine; resolves model paths relative to the backend
directory so the same gallery config works in docker-scratch and
    in the e2e-backends rootfs-extraction harness.
  * backend.py — gRPC servicer implementing Health, LoadModel, Status,
    Embedding, Detect, FaceVerify, FaceAnalyze.
  * install.sh — pre-bakes buffalo_l + OpenCV YuNet/SFace inside the
backend directory so first-run is offline-clean (the final scratch
image only preserves files under /<backend>/).
  * test.py — parametrized unit tests over both engines.

Tests:
  * Registry unit tests (go test -race ./core/services/facerecognition/...)
    — in-memory fake grpc.Backend, table-driven, covers register/
    identify/forget/error paths + concurrent access.
  * tests/e2e-backends/backend_test.go extended with face caps
    (face_detect, face_embed, face_verify, face_analyze); relative
ordering + configurable verifyCeiling per engine.
  * Makefile targets: test-extra-backend-insightface-buffalo-l,
    -opencv, and the -all aggregate.
  * CI: .github/workflows/test-extra.yml gains tests-insightface-grpc,
    auto-triggered by changes under backend/python/insightface/.

Docs:
  * docs/content/features/face-recognition.md — feature page with
license table, quickstart (defaults to the commercial-safe model),
models matrix, API reference, 1:N workflow, storage caveats.
  * Cross-refs in object-detection.md, stores.md, embeddings.md, and
    whats-new.md.
  * Contributor README at backend/python/insightface/README.md.

Verified end-to-end:
  * buffalo_l: 6/6 specs (health, load, face_detect, face_embed,
    face_verify, face_analyze).
  * opencv: 5/5 specs (same minus face_analyze — SFace has no
demographic head; correctly skipped via BACKEND_TEST_CAPS).

* fix(face-recognition): move engine selection to model gallery, collapse backend entries

The previous commit put engine/model_pack options on backend gallery
entries (`backend/index.yaml`). That was wrong — `GalleryBackend`
(core/gallery/backend_types.go:32) has no `options` field, so the
YAML decoder silently dropped those keys and all three "different
insightface-*" backend entries resolved to the same container image
with no distinguishing configuration.

Correct split:

  * `backend/index.yaml` now has ONE `insightface` backend entry
shipping the CPU + CUDA 12 container images. The Python backend
bundles both the non-commercial insightface model packs
    (buffalo_l / buffalo_s) and the commercial-safe OpenCV Zoo
weights (YuNet + SFace); the active engine is selected at
    LoadModel time via `options: ["engine:..."]`.

  * `gallery/index.yaml` gains three model entries —
    `insightface-buffalo-l`, `insightface-opencv`,
`insightface-buffalo-s` — each setting the appropriate
    `overrides.backend` + `overrides.options` so installing one
actually gives the user the intended engine. This matches how
`rfdetr-base` lives in the model gallery against the `rfdetr`
    backend.

The earlier e2e tests passed despite this bug because the Makefile
targets pass `BACKEND_TEST_OPTIONS` directly to LoadModel via gRPC,
bypassing any gallery resolution entirely. No code changes needed.

* feat(face-recognition): cover all supported models in the gallery + drop weight baking

Follows up on the model-gallery split: adds entries for every model
configuration either engine actually supports, and switches weight
delivery from image-baked to LocalAI's standard gallery mechanism.

Gallery now has seven `insightface-*` model entries (gallery/index.yaml):

insightface (family) — non-commercial research use
    • buffalo-l (326MB) — SCRFD-10GF + ResNet50 + genderage, default
    • buffalo-m (313MB) — SCRFD-2.5GF + ResNet50 + genderage
    • buffalo-s (159MB) — SCRFD-500MF + MBF + genderage
    • buffalo-sc (16MB) — SCRFD-500MF + MBF, recognition only
(no landmarks, no demographics — analyze
                             returns empty attributes)
    • antelopev2 (407MB) — SCRFD-10GF + ResNet100@Glint360K + genderage

  OpenCV Zoo family — Apache 2.0 commercial-safe
    • opencv — YuNet + SFace fp32 (~40MB)
    • opencv-int8 — YuNet + SFace int8 (~12MB, ~3x smaller, faster on CPU)

Model weights are no longer baked into the backend image. The image
now ships only the Python runtime + libraries (~275MB content size,
~1.18GB disk vs ~1.21GB when weights were baked). Weights flow through
LocalAI's gallery mechanism:

  * OpenCV variants list `files:` with ONNX URIs + SHA-256, so
`local-ai models install insightface-opencv` pulls them into the
models directory exactly like any other gallery-managed model.

  * insightface packs (upstream distributes .zip archives only, not
individual ONNX files) auto-download on first LoadModel via
FaceAnalysis' built-in machinery, rooted at the LocalAI models
directory so they live alongside everything else — same pattern
    `rfdetr` uses with `inference.get_model()`.

Backend changes (backend/python/insightface/):

  * backend.py — LoadModel propagates `ModelOptions.ModelPath` (the
LocalAI models directory) to engines via a `_model_dir` hint.
This replaces the earlier ModelFile-dirname approach; ModelPath
is the canonical "models directory" variable set by the Go loader
    (pkg/model/initializers.go:144) and is always populated.

  * engines.py::_resolve_model_path — picks up `model_dir` and searches
it (plus basename-in-model-dir) before falling back to the dev
script-dir. This is how OnnxDirectEngine finds gallery-downloaded
    YuNet/SFace files by filename only.

  * engines.py::_flatten_insightface_pack — new helper that works
around an upstream packaging inconsistency: buffalo_l/s/sc zips
expand flat, but buffalo_m and antelopev2 zips wrap their ONNX
files in a redundant `<name>/` directory. insightface's own
loader looks one level too shallow and fails. We call
`ensure_available()` explicitly, flatten if nested, then hand to
    FaceAnalysis.

  * engines.py::InsightFaceEngine.prepare — root-resolution order now
includes the `_model_dir` hint so packs download into the LocalAI
    models directory by default.

  * install.sh — no longer pre-downloads any weights. Everything is
    gallery-managed now.

  * smoke.py (new) — parametrized smoke test that iterates over every
gallery configuration, simulating the LocalAI install flow
(creates a models dir, fetches OpenCV files with checksum
verification, lets insightface auto-download its packs), then
runs detect + embed + verify (+ analyze where supported) through
    the in-process BackendServicer.

  * test.py — OnnxDirectEngineTest no longer hardcodes `/models/opencv/`
paths; downloads ONNX files to a temp dir at setUpClass time and
    passes ModelPath accordingly.

Registry change (core/services/facerecognition/store_registry.go):

  * `dim=0` in NewStoreRegistry now means "accept whatever dimension
arrives" — needed because the backend supports 512-d ArcFace/MBF
and 128-d SFace via the same Registry. A non-zero dim still fails
    fast with ErrDimensionMismatch.

  * core/application plumbs `faceEmbeddingDim = 0`, explaining the
    rationale in the comment.

Backend gallery description updated to reflect that the image carries
no weights — it's just Python + engines.

Smoke-tested all 7 configurations against the rebuilt image (with the
flatten fix applied), exit 0:

    PASS: insightface-buffalo-l faces=6 dim=512 same-dist=0.000
    PASS: insightface-buffalo-sc faces=6 dim=512 same-dist=0.000

    PASS: insightface-buffalo-m faces=6 dim=512 same-dist=0.000
    PASS: insightface-antelopev2 faces=6 dim=512 same-dist=0.000

* fix(face-recognition): pre-fetch OpenCV ONNX for e2e target; drop stale pre-baked claim

CI regression from the previous commit: I moved OpenCV Zoo weight
delivery to LocalAI's gallery `files:` mechanism, but the
test-extra-backend-insightface-opencv target was still passing
relative paths `detector_onnx:models/opencv/yunet.onnx` in
BACKEND_TEST_OPTIONS. The e2e suite drives LoadModel directly over
gRPC without going through the gallery, so those relative paths
resolved to nothing and OpenCV's ONNXImporter failed:

LoadModel failed: Failed to load face engine:
    OpenCV(4.13.0) ... Can't read ONNX file: models/opencv/yunet.onnx

Fix: add an `insightface-opencv-models` prerequisite target that
fetches the two ONNX files (YuNet + SFace) to a deterministic host
cache at /tmp/localai-insightface-opencv-cache/, verifies SHA-256,
and skips the download on re-runs. The opencv test target depends on
it and passes absolute paths in BACKEND_TEST_OPTIONS, so the backend
finds the files via its normal absolute-path resolution branch.

Also refresh the buffalo_l comment: it no longer says "pre-baked"
(nothing is — the pack auto-downloads from upstream's GitHub release
on first LoadModel, same as in CI).

Locally verified: `make test-extra-backend-insightface-opencv` passes
5/5 specs (health, load, face_detect, face_embed, face_verify).

* feat(face-recognition): add POST /v1/face/embed + correct /v1/embeddings docs

The docs promised that /v1/embeddings returns face vectors when you
send an image data-URI. That was never true: /v1/embeddings is
OpenAI-compatible and text-only by contract — its handler goes
through `core/backend/embeddings.go::ModelEmbedding`, which sets
`predictOptions.Embeddings = s` (a string of TEXT to embed) and never
populates `predictOptions.Images[]`. The Python backend's Embedding
gRPC method does handle Images[] (that's how /v1/face/register reaches
it internally via `backend.FaceEmbed`), but the HTTP embeddings
endpoint wasn't wired to populate it.

Rather than overload /v1/embeddings with image-vs-text detection —
messy, and the endpoint is OpenAI-compatible by design — add a
dedicated /v1/face/embed endpoint that wraps `backend.FaceEmbed`
(already used internally by /v1/face/register and /v1/face/identify).

Matches LocalAI's convention of a dedicated path per non-standard flow
(/v1/rerank, /v1/detection, /v1/face/verify etc.).

Response:

    {
      "embedding": [<dim> floats, L2-normed],
      "dim": int,           // 512 for ArcFace R50 / MBF, 128 for SFace
      "model": "<name>"
    }

Live-tested on the opencv engine: returns a 128-d L2-normalized vector
(sum(x^2) = 1.0000). Sentinel in docs updated to note /v1/embeddings
is text-only and point image users at /v1/face/embed instead.

* fix(http): map malformed image input + gRPC status codes to proper 4xx

Image-input failures on LocalAI's single-image endpoints (/v1/detection,
/v1/face/{verify,analyze,embed,register,identify}) have historically
returned 500 — even when the client was the one who sent garbage.
Classic example: you POST an "image" that isn't a URL, isn't a
data-URI, and isn't a valid JPEG/PNG — the server shouldn't claim
that's its fault.

Two helpers land in core/http/endpoints/localai/images.go and every
single-image handler is switched over:

  * decodeImageInput(s)
Wraps utils.GetContentURIAsBase64 and turns any failure
(invalid URL, not a data-URI, download error, etc.) into
      echo.NewHTTPError(400, "invalid image input: ...").

  * mapBackendError(err)
Inspects the gRPC status on a backend call error and maps:
        INVALID_ARGUMENT → 400 Bad Request
        NOT_FOUND → 404 Not Found
        FAILED_PRECONDITION → 412 Precondition Failed
        Unimplemented → 501 Not Implemented
All other codes fall through unchanged (still 500).

Before, my 1×1 PNG error-path test returned:
HTTP 500 "rpc error: code = InvalidArgument desc = failed to decode one or both images"
After:
HTTP 400 "failed to decode one or both images"

Scope-limited to the LocalAI single-image endpoints. The multi-modal
paths (middleware/request.go, openresponses/responses.go,
openai/realtime.go) intentionally log-and-skip individual media parts
when decoding fails — different design intent (graceful degradation
of a multi-part message), not a 400-worthy failure. Left untouched.

Live-verified: every error case in /tmp/face_errors.py now returns
4xx with a meaningful message; the "image with no face (1x1 PNG)"
case specifically went from 500 → 400.

* refactor(face-recognition): insightface packs go through gallery files:, drop FaceAnalysis

Follows up on the discovery that LocalAI's gallery `files:` mechanism
handles archives (zip, tar.gz, …) via mholt/archiver/v3 — the rhasspy
piper voices use exactly this pattern. Insightface packs are zip
archives, so we can now deliver them the same way every other
gallery-managed model gets delivered: declaratively, checksum-verified,
through LocalAI's standard download+extract pipeline.

Two changes:

1. Gallery (gallery/index.yaml) — every insightface-* entry gains a
   `files:` list with the pack zip's URI + SHA-256. `local-ai models
install insightface-buffalo-l` now fetches the zip, verifies the
hash, and extracts it into the models directory. No more reliance
   on insightface's library-internal `ensure_available()` auto-download
   or its hardcoded `BASE_REPO_URL`.

2. InsightFaceEngine (backend/python/insightface/engines.py) — drops
the FaceAnalysis wrapper and drives insightface's `model_zoo`
directly. The ~50 lines FaceAnalysis provides — glob ONNX files,
route each through `model_zoo.get_model()`, build a
   `{taskname: model}` dict, loop per-face at inference — are
reimplemented in `InsightFaceEngine`. The actual inference classes
(RetinaFace, ArcFaceONNX, Attribute, Landmark) are still
insightface's — we only replicate the glue, so drift risk against
   upstream is minimal.

   Why drop FaceAnalysis: it hard-codes a `<root>/models/<name>/*.onnx`
layout that doesn't match what LocalAI's zip extraction produces.
LocalAI unpacks archives flat into `<models_dir>`. Upstream packs
are inconsistent — buffalo_l/s/sc ship ONNX at the zip root (lands
   at `<models_dir>/*.onnx`), buffalo_m/antelopev2 wrap in a redundant
`<name>/` dir (lands at `<models_dir>/<name>/*.onnx`). The new
`_locate_insightface_pack` helper searches both locations plus
legacy paths and returns whichever has ONNX files. Replaces the
earlier `_flatten_insightface_pack` helper (which tried to fight
FaceAnalysis's layout expectations; now we just find the files
   wherever they are).

Net effect for users: install once via LocalAI's managed flow,
weights live alongside every other model, progress shows in the
jobs endpoint, no first-load network call. Same API surface,
cleaner plumbing.

* fix(face-recognition): CI's insightface e2e path needs the pack pre-fetched

The e2e suite drives LoadModel over gRPC without going through LocalAI's
gallery flow, so the engine's `_model_dir` option (normally populated
from ModelPath) is empty. Previously the insightface target relied on
FaceAnalysis auto-download to paper over this, but we dropped
FaceAnalysis in favor of direct model_zoo calls — so the buffalo_l
target started failing at LoadModel with "no insightface pack found".

Mirror the opencv target's pre-fetch pattern: download buffalo_sc.zip
(same SHA as the gallery entry), extract it on the host, and pass
`root:<dir>` so the engine locates the pack without needing
ModelPath. Switched to buffalo_sc (smallest pack, ~16MB) to keep CI
fast; it covers the same insightface engine code path as buffalo_l.

Face analyze cap dropped since buffalo_sc has no age/gender head.

* feat(face-recognition): surface face-recognition in advertised feature maps

The six /v1/face/* endpoints were missing from every place LocalAI
advertises its feature surface to clients:

  * api_instructions — the machine-readable capability index at
    GET /api/instructions. Added `face-recognition` as a dedicated
instruction area with an intro that calls out the in-memory
registry caveat and the /v1/face/embed vs /v1/embeddings split.
  * auth/permissions — added FeatureFaceRecognition constant, routed
all six face endpoints through it so admins can gate them per-user
like any other API feature. Default ON (matches the other API
    features).
  * React UI capabilities — CAP_FACE_RECOGNITION symbol mapped to
FLAG_FACE_RECOGNITION. Declared only for now; the Face page is a
    follow-up (noted in the plan).

Instruction count bumped 9 → 10; test updated.

Assisted-by: Claude:claude-opus-4-7[1m]

* docs(agents): capture advertising-surface steps in the endpoint guide

Before this change, adding a new /v1/* endpoint reliably missed one or
more of: the swagger @Tags annotation, the /api/instructions registry,
the auth RouteFeatureRegistry, and the React UI CAP_* symbol. The
endpoint would work but be invisible to API consumers, admins, and the
UI — and nothing in the existing docs said to look in those places.

Extend .agents/api-endpoints-and-auth.md with a new "Advertising
surfaces" section covering all four surfaces (swagger tags, /api/
instructions, capabilities.js, docs/), and expand the closing checklist
so it's impossible to ship a feature without visiting each one. Hoist a
one-liner reminder into AGENTS.md's Quick Reference so agents skim it
before diving in.

* feat(experimental): add fine-tuning endpoint and TRL support

This changeset defines new GRPC signatues for Fine tuning backends, and
