mudler-agentandEttore Di Giacinto 0b5cab414a feat(galleryop): limit concurrent backend operations (#12888)
* feat(config): add a limit for concurrent backend operations

Add --max-concurrent-backend-operations
(LOCALAI_MAX_CONCURRENT_BACKEND_OPERATIONS) and the runtime setting
max_concurrent_backend_operations. It sets how many backend install,
upgrade and delete operations run at the same time. The default is 1,
which keeps the current behaviour. Values below 1 become 1.

The runtime value is also kept in an atomic, so the scheduler that reads
it never races with a settings change. The setting shows in the Settings
page under Backends. This commit only adds the setting; the next one
uses it.

* feat(galleryop): run backend operations in a bounded pool

One goroutine read both gallery channels and ran each operation inline,
so one slow backend operation held every operation behind it, model
operations included. In distributed mode the manager also visited the
nodes one at a time and waited for each up to the install timeout.

Backend operations now go through a scheduler that runs up to
max_concurrent_backend_operations of them at once. Operations start in
the order they arrive. Install, upgrade and delete of one backend share
a key and never overlap; an operation that waits for its backend does
not hold a slot, so independent operations pass it. Cancelling a queued
operation drops it at once. The limit is read on every scheduling step,
so a runtime change applies without a restart. With the default of 1 the
behaviour is the old single worker. Model operations get their own loop
and stay serial.

In distributed mode the manager sends one operation to its nodes in
parallel, up to the same limit, and keeps the result in node order. A
per (node, backend) lock keeps a live operation and the reconciler from
sending the same operation to a node together; the reconciler skips a
row that is locked and checks that the row still exists before it sends.
Timeouts are unchanged.

The download progress timers were plain package variables. They are
atomics now, because operations can run in parallel.

Requirement

In this project, the Docsy theme component is pulled in as a Hugo module, together with other module dependencies:

$ hugo mod graph

If you want to do SCSS edits and want to publish these, you need to install PostCSS

npm install

Running the website locally

Building and running the site locally requires a recent extended version of Hugo. You can find out more about how to install Hugo for your environment in our Getting started guide.

From the LocalAI repository root, run:

make docs

The Hugo configuration lives in the docs directory. To invoke Hugo directly instead, run:

cd docs
hugo server

Running a container locally

You can run docsy-example inside a Docker container, the container runs with a volume bound to the docsy-example folder. This approach doesn't require you to install any dependencies other than Docker Desktop on Windows and Mac, and Docker Compose on Linux.

  1. Build the docker image

    docker-compose build

  2. Run the built image

    docker-compose up

NOTE: You can run both commands at once with docker-compose up --build.

  3. Verify that the service is working.

Open your web browser and type http://localhost:1313 in your navigation bar, This opens a local instance of the docsy-example homepage. You can now make changes to the docsy example and those changes will immediately show up in your browser after you save.

Cleanup

To stop Docker Compose, on your terminal window, press Ctrl + C.

To remove the produced images run:

docker-compose rm

For more information see the Docker Compose documentation.

Troubleshooting

As you run the website locally, you may run into the following error:

➜ hugo server

This error occurs if you have not installed the extended version of Hugo. See this section of the user guide for instructions on how to install Hugo.

Or you may encounter the following error:

➜ hugo server
