Don Cross 09ea3c93c5 Go: started internalSearchAltitude too early ...

Saving some partial work that I can't complete yet.
I missed that internalSearchAltitude needs Equator to exist
first, which means I started implementing it too early.
Saving work inside comments, and including some cleanup to
other code.
