Zoltan KochanandClaude Opus 5.5 6f95957063 docs: lint prose with Vale (#17238)
* docs: lint prose with Vale

Add Vale with an in-repo style, .vale/styles/pnpm, that turns the
writing rules in AGENTS.md and the Google developer documentation style
guide into lint rules. The stock Vale packages (Google, Microsoft,
RedHat, write-good) were too noisy to block on, for example 1,300
passive-voice hits in the v12 docs alone, so the rules are written for
this repo, following the GitLab model. Each one links the guideline it
enforces.

Levels:
- error, fails CI: dashes, plain-word substitutions, condescending
words, "please", "note that", hedges, puffery, optional plurals,
exclamation marks, ellipses, curly quotes, generic link text, product
spellings, sentence-case headings, repeated words, double spaces,
implementation history in comments; in changesets, bold or italic
emphasis, internal names and release-line names.
- warning: future tense, sentences over 30 words, "instead of" and
  "so that" tails in changesets.
- suggestion: passive voice.

.vale.ini scopes the rules. Docs get every rule. Contributor Markdown
and code comments keep dashes and headings as warnings until their
roughly 8,100 em dashes are rewritten. Released changesets stay in
.changeset/ and are not rewritten, so lint-prose.mjs lints only the
changesets added since PROSE_BASE (the PR base in CI).

The prose workflow installs a pinned, checksum-verified Vale release and
runs `pnpm lint:prose`. The rest of this change rewrites the existing
docs, READMEs, contributor Markdown, and code comments to pass the
error-level rules. Only prose and comment text changed. Renamed
headings keep their anchors.

Spelling stays with cspell, which checks identifiers that Vale does not
see.

Zoltan Kochanandgithub-actions[bot] 91774e72a0 chore(release): 11.28.7, pacquet 12.15.0, pnpr 0.1.0-alpha.16 (#17187)
* chore(release): 11.28.7, pacquet 12.15.0, pnpr 0.1.0-alpha.16

* docs(release): curate 11.28.7, pacquet 12.15.0, and pnpr 0.1.0-alpha.16 release notes

Add lead paragraphs and group the patch entries by what the reader was
doing, with security fixes first on each page.

- v11: lead with the registry metadata name check, pinned pnpm
trustPolicy check, maxTarballUnpackedSize, and the removal of registry
revisions; merge overlapping entries for minimumReleaseAge metadata
  revalidation, frozen-lockfile directory dependency checks,
  syncInjectedDepsAfterScripts, verifyDepsBeforeRun, pnpm sbom, and
  unreadable config settings.
- v12: order minor highlights from config includes and
lockfile.integrityTarget down to interactive update styling; drop the
pnpr-only distribution note from the CLI changelog; merge overlapping
entries for workspace and pnpr install speedups, minimumReleaseAge and
If-Modified-Since revalidation, frozen-lockfile and injected package
checks, verifyDepsBeforeRun, pnpm prune, pnpm pack, pnpm licenses
list, pnpm self-update, pinned pnpm flag forwarding, and WebContainer
  fixes.
- pnpr: lead the minor section with the breaking ecosystem URL prefix,
hosted storage layout, artifacts.orgs, and strict config schema
changes; fold dist.pnpr tarball metadata into one entry and drop the
redundant /metrics note; lead the patch section with reserved-username
  and auth security fixes.
- Use one issue-link label style across the release pages.

68112bada4 chore(release): 11.28.5, pacquet 12.10.0 (#16637)
* chore(release): 11.28.5, pacquet 12.10.0

* docs(release): curate the 11.28.5 and 12.10.0 release notes

Add a lead paragraph to each page and group the patch entries under
subject headings, with the security fixes first.

- Merge the unpublish path-boundary fix into the unpublish entry, the
legacy metadata cache prune into the metadata cache entry, the two
binary size entries, and the two 64 MiB archive limits on the v11 page.
- Drop the manifest-utils saveType entry from the CLI page: the CLI
only passes saveType values derived from its own flags, so no CLI user
  can reach the fixed path.
- Rewrite mechanism-only entries (PAX header validation, bundled
dependency symlinks, custom resolutions under name@version keys, proxy
setting validation) in terms of what the user sees.
- Use one link style for pnpm/pnpm issues.

5dafb09800 chore(release): 11.28.4, pacquet 12.9.1 (#16567)
* chore(release): 11.28.4, pacquet 12.9.1

* docs(release): curate 11.28.4 and pacquet 12.9.1 release notes

Add a lead paragraph to both pages. Move the two credential-leak fixes
in 11.28.4 to the top and group the remaining 27 entries by what the
reader was doing. Merge entries that described one change: the two
INVALID_SETTING validations, the two metadata revalidation fixes, the
two hoisted filtered-install fixes, and, in pacquet 12.9.1, the two
[<since>] selector fixes. Order pacquet 12.9.1 so the `@pnpm/wasm` move,
which WebContainer users must act on, comes first.

Normalize issue links to the [#N] form and link the ETag fix to
pnpm/pnpm#16506.

Every fix was checked against the code released in 11.28.3 and
pacquet 12.9.0; none fixes a defect that never shipped.

KhảiandClaude Opus 5 1606ba03fb docs: add the documentation and comment principles and apply them (#16516)
* docs(agents): add the documentation and comment principles

Import the principles that transfer from KSXGitHub/perfectionist's
contributor guide, plus four of our own: concise and non-repeating text,
structured text over prose, removal over addition when reviewing or
fixing nitpicks, and a definition of the user-facing text that must not
name implementation details.

The root guide's "Comments" section gains "Register", "Prose that cannot
go stale", "User-facing text", and "Reviewing documentation and
comments". The pacquet style guide adds the Rust specifics (clap and
napi doc comments are user-facing; a default is documented on the
field, not the variant). DOCUMENTATION.md gains the renderer and link
table for each markdown surface.

The guides themselves are brought in line: counts over growable lists
become plain references, a quoted heading becomes an anchor link, and
the size limits are stated once, in the style guide, instead of three
times.

* docs: keep user-facing text free of implementation names

The `@pnpm/napi` README and type declarations named the Rust engine, the
in-repo package name, and TypeScript internals (`filterPkgsDiff`,
`nameFormatter`) that a user of the addon cannot reach. The pnpmfile
page in both docs trees explained a limitation by the IPC mechanism
behind it. Four changesets named the release line or implementation,
which the package targets already express.

* docs(crates): cut restating and stale comments in pack, modules-yaml and nine more crates

Apply the comment principles to pack, versioning, pnpr-client,
package-is-installable, fs-packlist, workspace-task-scheduler,
engine-runtime-node-resolver, exportable-manifest, modules-yaml,
pnpr-registry, and pnpr-auth. Removed: call-site comments that repeat
the callee's doc, module rosters of exports that the `pub use` lines
already list, "not yet implemented" notes for behaviour that exists
(`beforePacking`, `hoistedLocations`), body narration, and history
framing. Comment-only; no code changes.

* docs(crates): cut restating and stale comments in the small resolver, catalog and pnpr crates

Apply the comment principles to the local, tarball, default, deno and
jsr resolvers, the catalog crates, detect-libc, config-parse-overrides,
env-replace, git-utils, matcher, diagnostics, and the pnpr policy,
cargo, error, osv and fixture crates. Removed: parentheticals that
repeat a `#[diagnostic(code)]` attribute, counts over lists of
variants, callers and entry points, rosters of callers, doc paragraphs
that repeat a sibling's or the module's text, comments narrating the
match arms or condition below them, and history framing. The
`pnpr-prepare --help` text no longer names the test harness.
Comment-only; no code changes.

* docs(crates): cut restating and stale comments in publish, workspace, registry and graph-hasher

Apply the comment principles to publish, auth-commands, registry,
workspace, lockfile-verification, default-reporter, the git resolver,
deps-inspection, hooks, graph-hasher, package-manifest, and the pnpr
shared-artifacts and route crates. Removed: a module roster of every
export, counts over lists, plan notes for work that landed ("Phase 5",
"Phase 6"), call-site comments repeating the callee's doc, docs
narrating match arms, a default claim on a `#[default]` variant, a
misattached doc, and history framing. Comment-only; no code changes.

* docs(crates): cut restating comments in napi, reporter and pnpr crates

Apply the comment principles to napi, reporter, resolving-resolver-base,
real-hoist, git-fetcher, workspace-manifest-writer, and the pnpr config
and storage crates. Removed: "Mirrors X in index.d.ts" sentences on
`#[napi]` items and other implementation names in addon-facing docs,
stale "not emitted yet" and "when it lands" notes for behaviour that
exists, step-by-step comments narrating the body, emit-site and caller
rosters, docs duplicated from a sibling or the module, a doc attached to
the wrong item, and history framing. Comment-only; no code changes.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01QYTBQo8HY7xD2iz6hjo1CW

* docs: cut restating and stale comments across the remaining crates and pnpm11

Apply the comment principles to the rest of the Rust workspace and to the
TypeScript CLI: the cli crate and its clap definitions, package-manager,
config, patching, the deps resolver, lockfile, pnpr, the npm resolver,
tarball, network, executor, cmd-shim, the benchmark and fixture tooling,
and the pnpm11 packages.

Removed: comments narrating the body, docs repeating a callee's, a
sibling's or the module's text, counts over growable lists, rosters of
callers and exports, "not yet implemented" notes for behaviour that
exists, history framing, and `@param` lines restating a signature.

One exception to comment-only: in `pnpr/crates/pnpr/src/resolver/resolve.rs`
the `Workspace` struct sat inside the doc block written for `resolve`, so
the struct moved above it and each doc now attaches to its own item.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01QYTBQo8HY7xD2iz6hjo1CW

* docs(crates): cut body narration and duplicated docs in resolver, fs and package-manager

Removed: a numbered "Sequence:" list narrating `ensure_file`'s body and
the paragraph restating its backoff constants, the stress-test module
doc's roster of its own tests, refactor-history paragraphs in the peer
walk's finalize pass, call-site and caller-side copies of a callee's doc
(the `optional` AND-fold stays documented on `register_seeded_package`
and on `ResolvedPackage`), a verbatim quotation of a TypeScript test's
expected output in the pnpr search module doc, and field and digest-input
rosters in the package-manager.

* docs(deps-restorer): cut plan references and re-attach misplaced docs

Removed the "slice 4" plan references and the comments narrating the
bodies they sat above. The `Auto` downgrade-chain doc moved from
`copy_and_log` to `auto_link`, the function it describes.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01QYTBQo8HY7xD2iz6hjo1CW

* docs: cut the last body narration and a history clause in the cmd-shim test

`build_graph.rs` kept a `patches` parameter doc that re-derived what
`BuildOptions::patches` documents. The PowerShell-arguments test on main
said the arguments survived "before the shim ended its batch context
too", which describes the change rather than the behaviour.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01QYTBQo8HY7xD2iz6hjo1CW

* docs(cmd-shim): point the PowerShell-shim link at its current module

Main moved `wants_powershell_shim` into `windows_shim_policy`, so the
shim writer's link to it no longer resolved and `cargo doc` failed.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01QYTBQo8HY7xD2iz6hjo1CW

* docs(cli): link the fixture the ignored-build setup installs

The shortened doc named `workspace_with_unapproved_build` in backticks,
which `perfectionist::bare_identifier_reference` rejects for an item that
resolves in scope. It is an intra-doc link now.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01QYTBQo8HY7xD2iz6hjo1CW

* docs(crates): restore two contracts and fix four dangling references

A review of this branch's sweep flagged seven places. Six needed a
change:

- `from_ini` documents again that a relative `cafile=` resolves against
`npmrc_dir`, a precondition its callers have to honour.
- `hash_object` documents again that the private serializer's bytestream
has to match pnpm 11's, because the digest is persisted and read by
  both.
- The hooked-manifests note no longer says "above" of a gate that lives
  in another module.
- The store-dir race test states its synchronization contract instead of
  labelling it "Post-Option-C".
- `GraphNodeHashOptions.nodeVersion` keeps `undefined` as a literal.
- The pnpr streaming module drops the sentence fragment that introduced
  its list.

The seventh, a `beforePacking` limitation in exportable-manifest, stays
removed: the note said the pnpmfile bridge cannot supply that hook, and
`pnpm_pack::lifecycle::apply_before_packing` has been running it since
before this branch.

Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01QYTBQo8HY7xD2iz6hjo1CW

* docs(cli): say in `pnpm why --help` that `--exclude-peers` is ignored

Demoting the caveat to an ordinary comment took it out of the help,
which then advertised a flag that does nothing: `WhyArgs::run` never
reads `exclude_peers`, and pnpm 11's `why` handler never forwards its
`excludePeers` either. The doc comment states that behavior in the words
a user sees, and the parity reason stays in a comment beside it.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01QYTBQo8HY7xD2iz6hjo1CW

* docs(cli): drop the doc comment that described the wrong module

The comment described the `pnpm_deps_inspection as deps_tree` re-export
above it, but a doc comment attaches to the item that follows, so rustdoc
showed it as the description of `mod dispatch`. The `use` item already
names the alias, so the comment goes rather than moving.

Zoltan Kochan 658dbc30a6 feat: support pnpm in StackBlitz WebContainers (#16499)
Compile the shared Rust CLI for wasm32-wasip1-threads and supply filesystem,
network, process, terminal and cancellation capabilities through a Node host.
Select host implementations at compile time so native builds retain their
native dependency/features and execution paths.

Bundle the WASM runtime in the regular npm wrappers and select it from the
WebContainer runtime marker. Keep Node launchers usable without installation
scripts. Native installation replaces all four launchers with native bytes.
Regenerate shims after upgrades or dependency builds replace Node targets with
native binaries, including before dependent lifecycle scripts run. Preserve
collision winners and publish replacement shims with executable permissions.
Reject non-descendant permission templates and intermediate symlink escapes, validate before creating directories, and avoid path-based cleanup races.
Restore direct native aliases in both version-management implementations.
Retain process cleanup after failed stdin shutdown. Prevent cross-origin redirects from replaying login credentials in both CLI lines, and strip npm-otp from cross-origin WASM requests. Avoid repeated selected-snapshot and removed-bin scans.

Preserve resolution, lockfile, integrity and build-approval behavior. Use an
isolated WASM store with rollback journals and process leases. Patch WASI path
normalization for multiple parent segments and retain that patch in bundles.

Add pinned tooling, release packaging, real-browser workflow and selection
tests, documentation and a release note. Document host limits, including the
Corepack cold-download failure in WebContainer's streaming hash implementation.
Controlled native CLI cases showed no separated slowdown, and the latest
hoisted rebuild and repeat-install fixture improved. Retain the documented
microbenchmark uncertainty and host limitations.

Related to pnpm/tasks#63.

cbb2eb04ea fix: lower fetch concurrency per origin when a timeout hits an active download (#15880)
A fetch timeout while another request to the same origin is still in
flight now lowers that origin's in-flight cap to one connection. The
configured network concurrency stays in place until that happens, and
other origins keep it. Remaining retries and later requests to that
origin wait for the single slot.

The cap is per origin, so one slow registry or tarball host cannot drag
down downloads from healthy ones. On a slow link, nearly every download
comes from one registry, so that origin times out against its own peers
and is lowered.

In the Rust client each origin gets a gate next to the maxSockets limit,
acquired before the global semaphore so a request waiting on a lowered
origin holds no global slot. Behind a proxy the origin is the proxy's.
In the TypeScript client each connection origin (again the proxy's when
one applies) gets a gate around its registry fetches, held until the body settles, so a stalled download still counts
as in flight. Already-granted requests finish. Further requests to that
origin wait until one remains.

Zoltan Kochan d45bfb1174 refactor(ts): meet size and shape limits in 5 packages (#16451)
* refactor(ts): meet size and shape limits in 5 packages

Refactor 5 TypeScript packages to satisfy strict size and shape lint limits
(function length, nesting, cognitive complexity, local declarations):
- `@pnpm/lockfile.pruner`
- `@pnpm/network.agent`
- `@pnpm/resolving.default-resolver`
- `@pnpm/resolving.local-resolver`
- `@pnpm/resolving.registry.pkg-metadata-filter`

Remove them from PENDING_SIZE_AND_SHAPE_REFACTOR in eslint.config.mjs.

* refactor(registry.pkg-metadata-filter): use options objects for candidate helpers

* perf(network.agent): use cache.get directly to update recency

* chore(release): 11.28.3

* docs(changelog): curate the 11.28.3 release notes

Merge the eleven entries about names such as `constructor` into one,
group the patch changes by what the reader was doing, and add a lead
paragraph.

Drop the zlib-rs entry: that change only touched Cargo.toml, and the
TypeScript CLI does not use the Rust engine. It belongs to the next
pacquet release.

Rewrite the store index entry for CLI users. `ReadOnlyStoreIndex` and
`ImmutableStoreIndex` are library API documented in the
`@pnpm/store.index` changelog.

Say what the store prune mark-phase fix changes for the user.

Zoltan Kochan ffb2a5ad85 fix(store)!: coordinate concurrent read-only index access (#16427)
* fix(store): coordinate concurrent read-only index access

* test(cli): avoid race in concurrency assertion

wait_for_holders already proves that both tasks hold their slots before
release. The later overlap marker assertion races with release_holders
removing the markers before the scripts inspect them.

Clarify that ordinary concurrent installs and frozen-lockfile allow shared
store writes; only frozenStore requires an immutable store.

* fix(store): preserve immutable reader compatibility

Keep the published ReadOnlyStoreIndex contract for finalized read-only stores.

Expose ConcurrentReadOnlyStoreIndex for readers alongside active writers.
This fixes the shared-store use case without requiring immutable callers
to migrate in a patch release.

* fix(store): configure readers through prepared statements

* test(proxy): use local certificate fixtures

* fix(store)!: coordinate read-only index access

Use the normal WAL-aware connection for ReadOnlyStoreIndex and reserve
ImmutableStoreIndex for frozen stores. Update every frozen-store caller.

The maintainer requested a major release of `@pnpm/store.index` so existing
shared-store consumers receive the safe default when upgrading.
The pnpm CLI and internal consumers retain patch releases.

BREAKING CHANGE: Callers using ReadOnlyStoreIndex for a finalized store on
a read-only filesystem must switch to ImmutableStoreIndex.

* test(store): follow updated variable naming rules

Zoltan Kochan 4edeef9176 style(ts): port the perfectionist lint rules to ESLint (#16415)
Add TypeScript ports of the perfectionist rules that the Rust workspace
enforces through dylint.toml to @pnpm/eslint-config, with the same limits,
and fix every finding that needs no refactor.

The size and shape rules (function length, cognitive complexity, nesting,
local bindings, file length) are enforced for packages that already meet
them. The packages that do not are listed in PENDING_SIZE_AND_SHAPE_REFACTOR
in eslint.config.mjs and are refactored in follow-up changes.

The custom rules mirror perfectionist's semantics rather than reusing
sonarjs or max-lines-per-function, so that one limit means the same thing
in both codebases: a closure is a level of the body that contains it, a
nested function declaration is measured on its own, and a test-framework
callback plays the role of a #[test] function.

Bugs found and fixed along the way:
- a registry error body cut at exactly 64 KiB lost its truncation marker
- removing a dependency could leave dangling .bin shims
- constructor/__proto__ names crashed the projects graph, were skipped by
the injected-deps syncer, and were dropped from writeWantedLockfile's
  returned lockfile

The CI chunk runner learns to run the node:test suite of the ESLint
config package.

* chore(release): 11.28.1, pacquet 12.8.0, pnpr 0.1.0-alpha.14

* docs(release): park Rust changelogs and curate release notes

The release bump ran with pnpm 12.7.0, which since pnpm/pnpm#14934
writes the changelog of every private project to a committed
CHANGELOG.md. pacquet, `@pnpm/napi` and `@pnpm/pnpr` are private
in-repo but published, and release.yml and the publish-time changelog
composer both read their parked section. Move the three sections back
to .changeset/changelogs so the GitHub release bodies and the npm
tarball changelogs are not empty. The tooling follow-up is recorded
on pnpm/tasks#38.

Curate the pnpm 11.28.1, pnpm 12.8.0 and pnpr 0.1.0-alpha.14 pages:
add lead paragraphs, group patch entries by subject, merge entries
describing one change, drop internals no CLI user sees, and fix
"instead of" tails, implementation names and link placement. This
addresses both Qodo findings on the catalog entry.

Zoltan Kochan 11b9393080 fix: recognize WebContainers' async fs errors (#16253)
StackBlitz WebContainers reject asynchronous fs calls with errors that
inherit from Error but were not created by the native constructor, so
util.types.isNativeError() returns false for them. pnpm used that check
to recognize ENOENT and other codes, so a missing pnpm-lock.yaml was
rethrown and pnpm install failed on any project without a lockfile.

Add isError() to @pnpm/error, which accepts a native error or any
instanceof Error, and use it at every non-test call site. The native
check alone is still needed for Jest, where errors from another realm
fail instanceof. Update the AGENTS.md guidance to match.

Closes pnpm/pnpm#15649

d06937736c fix(lockfile): read the branch lockfiles of a detached HEAD (#15887)
With gitBranchLockfile, an install named its lockfile after the branch
HEAD pointed at. A detached HEAD, which is what a CI checkout of a
commit SHA produces, names none, so the install read only the shared
pnpm-lock.yaml and failed with ERR_PNPM_NO_LOCKFILE even though the
lockfile of a branch containing the commit sat next to it.

When HEAD is detached, the wanted-lockfile read now falls back to the
lockfiles of the local and remote-tracking branches containing the
commit, tried before the shared one. A CI checkout of a SHA usually has
only the remote-tracking ref it fetched, so those count too. The write target is unchanged: a branch containing HEAD need
not have HEAD at its tip, so a detached install still writes the shared
lockfile, as under mergeGitBranchLockfiles.

The fix covers both the TypeScript v11 CLI and the Rust v12 CLI.

Zoltan Kochan 48b1e5425c fix(network): cache agents by their effective settings (#16224)
`getAgent` and `getProxyAgent` keyed their agent caches on
`Boolean(strictSsl)`, which maps an omitted strictSsl and an explicit
false to the same key. Node.js verifies certificates when
rejectUnauthorized is omitted, so an insecure agent cached first was
handed to later callers that expected verification. The keys also left
out maxSockets and timeout, so a caller got an agent with another
caller's connection settings.

Both factories now resolve strictSsl, maxSockets, and timeout to their
effective values once, and use those values in the key and the agent.

`pickSettingByUrl` checked candidate keys by truthiness and skipped
settings whose value is false, 0, or an empty string. It now checks
whether the key exists. Its port-stripping fallback appended the slash
after the query string, which turned `/path?a=1` into a URL whose path
was lost when mapped to a registry key. The slash now goes on the path.

None of these packages is used by the pnpm CLI.

Zoltan Kochan ad525f26db refactor: move the pnpm/components packages into the monorepo (#16214)
The remaining packages of the pnpm/components Bit workspace now live
under pnpm11/ and are published from here, keeping their npm names:

  @pnpm/config.env-replace           -> pnpm11/config/env-replace
  @pnpm/log.group                    -> pnpm11/log/group
  @pnpm/network.agent                -> pnpm11/network/agent
  @pnpm/network.ca-file              -> pnpm11/network/ca-file
  @pnpm/network.config               -> pnpm11/network/config
  @pnpm/network.proxy-agent          -> pnpm11/network/proxy-agent
  @pnpm/os.env.path-extender         -> pnpm11/os/env/path-extender
  @pnpm/os.env.path-extender-posix   -> pnpm11/os/env/path-extender-posix
  @pnpm/os.env.path-extender-windows -> pnpm11/os/env/path-extender-windows

lex-comparator and nerf-dart were already moved under new names, and the
Bit env component is build tooling with no counterpart here.

The sources are carried over from pnpm/components at 42ec0f7, which
includes the Windows fix that rewrites a PNPM_HOME value stored with the
wrong registry type. pnpm v12 got the same fix in pnpm/pnpm#15746, so
its changeset now also covers pnpm v11, which bundles the workspace copy.

Porting to the monorepo's ES module setup:

- relative imports carry .js and type re-exports are marked `type`;
- tests use jest.unstable_mockModule and import through the package;
- string.prototype.matchall and graceful-fs give way to built-ins;
- safe-execa and lru-cache move to the catalog versions (0.3, 11);
- network.config depends on @pnpm/config.registry-auth-key;
- the strict-ssl proxy test uses node:https and proxy v4 instead of
  node-fetch and proxy v1.

The packages start at 1100.0.0 to sit in the pnpm11 version band.

kudaliar b692397290 fix(tarball): fail fast when the package store is full (#15697)
A full content-addressable store cannot recover by re-fetching and
re-extracting the same tarball. Detect ENOSPC through the store-write
error chain before scheduling archive retries. The TypeScript fetch
path recognizes ENOSPC in both direct and wrapped errors, including
worker failures, while retaining its existing retry policy otherwise.

The regression tests assert that the retry budget is not consumed.

* docs(release): curate the 11.28.0 and 12.7.0 release pages

Group both pages under subject headings with a lead paragraph that
names the headline changes and the security fixes, and move the
security entries to the top of the patch section.

Merge entries that describe one change: the node shim version files,
ranged selectors without a package.json, SemVer build metadata,
completion injection, custom modulesDir command lookup,
list --only-projects, store status, npm_execpath, catalog and npm-alias
workspace edges, the macOS CA fallback, and the prepare/devPreinstall

Drop entries that describe no change a published version could show:
the test-only --no-optional entry on both pages, the exported

Altay 72baf833ca fix(network): fail at once on an untrusted TLS certificate (#15633)
A request to a server whose TLS certificate fails verification was retried
under the fetch-retries backoff (10 s, then 60 s) although no retry can
change the verdict.

pnpm v12 retried every transport error, so a metadata request sat silent
for 70 seconds before printing the certificate error, and a tarball
download multiplied the quick connect retries by the archive retries.
is_certificate_error now spots rustls' InvalidCertificate in the reqwest
error chain, and send_with_retry, get_secure_bytes and the tarball retry
loops fail such a request on the first attempt.

pnpm v11 only skipped retries for SELF_SIGNED_CERT_IN_CHAIN; other
verification codes such as UNABLE_TO_VERIFY_LEAF_SIGNATURE and
DEPTH_ZERO_SELF_SIGNED_CERT were retried, and the tarball fetcher retried
every one of them. The non-retryable set now covers the certificate
verification codes, the tarball fetcher honours it, and the rejected error
is undici's TLS cause, so the message names the certificate problem
instead of "fetch failed".

Zoltan Kochan 5b1431c199 fix(git): run ssh in batch mode so a hidden passphrase prompt cannot hang the install (#15196)
The default reporter repaints the terminal over anything git or ssh
prints, so when a git dependency's SSH remote needs a key passphrase or
a host key confirmation the prompt is invisible and `pnpm install` looks
hung. `GIT_TERMINAL_PROMPT=0` already made git's own credential prompts
fail fast; ssh prompts on the terminal directly, so it needs
`BatchMode=yes` through `GIT_SSH_COMMAND` to fail the same way.

Both the git resolver's `ls-remote` and every git invocation of the git
fetcher now go through one helper, `nonInteractiveGitEnv` in
`@pnpm/network.git-utils` and `disable_git_prompts` in
`pnpm-git-utils`, that sets both variables. The ssh override is skipped
when the user already selected the ssh command through
`GIT_SSH_COMMAND`, `GIT_SSH`, or the `core.sshCommand` git setting, so
a custom key or a plink setup keeps working, and setting
`GIT_SSH_COMMAND=ssh` opts back into prompting.

Zoltan Kochan 54d7268c10 fix(network): make fetch-timeout an inactivity timeout (#14642)
pnpm aborted a request once its total time passed `fetchTimeout`, body
included, so `pnpm runtime set node` could never finish its ~62 MB
download on a slow connection. pnpm v12 set reqwest's client-level
`timeout`, a deadline for the whole request; pnpm v11 passed
`AbortSignal.timeout` to undici, which aborts the response body too.

Both stacks now bound inactivity instead. pnpm v12 sets reqwest's
`read_timeout`, which restarts on every chunk received. pnpm v11 drops
the abort signal and lets the undici dispatcher enforce `headersTimeout`
and `bodyTimeout`, which behave the same way; the global dispatcher
sets per dispatch, through an interceptor composed onto the dispatcher
that would have served the request. The agents pnpm builds for a proxy
or custom TLS take their connect bounds from the same value, which the
abort signal used to cover.

A connection that stops delivering data still fails after
`fetchTimeout` in both.

Zoltan Kochan 427bece813 feat(cli): integrate python with shared install and artifact lifecycles (#14586)
Exercise the multi-ecosystem architecture through a usable Python
integration, not test-only metadata writers.

Keep Python requirement, marker, lockfile and environment semantics
separate from npm and Cargo. Reuse the install-wide HTTP/auth budget,
verified artifact ingestion, CAS and store index.

Extract a shared install lifecycle without ecosystem-specific branches.
Native tasks declare metadata footprints and return prepared projections.
Settle all work before publishing Cargo or Python state, and reverse
attempted publications before restoring metadata on failure.
Retain resources when rollback fails so recovery remains possible.

Enroll npm with its existing in-place materialization semantics, and
keep npm-only dispatch on its early path. Do not unify native resolvers,
lockfile formats, target identity or package layouts.

Consolidate archive ingestion below the ecosystem boundary. Share cache
validation, authenticated requests, extraction retries and publication
across tarballs and ZIPs, retaining tar streaming and ZIP decoding.
Test the shared contracts across both formats and preserve npm fast paths.

Use standard pylock.toml, independently validated with uv.
New features target pnpm v12 only. Shared archive URL-redaction fixes
also cover pnpm v11.

Zoltan Kochan d52fc64b1e fix(registry-access): answer OTP challenges in unpublish (#14472)
`pnpm unpublish` sent every registry mutation without `npm-auth-type` and
turned any 401 into ERR_PNPM_UNAUTHORIZED, so an account with 2FA
enforced could never unpublish even though it was logged in: the registry
answered with an OTP challenge the command did not recognize.

Both stacks now run the packument PUT and every tarball/packument DELETE
through the shared OTP session: the first attempt carries a configured
`--otp` (under `npm-auth-type: legacy`), otherwise `npm-auth-type: web`
requests the web-based challenge; a 401 whose body carries
`authUrl`/`doneUrl` starts the browser flow, one mentioning the classic
"one-time pass" wording prompts for a code, and the obtained password is
reused by the remaining requests of the run. Any other 401 stays a plain
authentication failure, now including the registry's body.

The 401-body classification that `dist-tag` and `setDistTag` each carried
privately moves to the web-auth packages
(`SyntheticOtpError.fromUnauthorizedBody` in TypeScript,
`otp_challenge_from_unauthorized_body` in Rust) so all call sites share
it. The Rust unpublish command becomes generic over the web-auth host so
its unit tests can script the challenge flow against a mocked registry.

Zoltan Kochan 3af5322039 fix: authenticate node.js mirror downloads (#14375)
Reuse the existing URL-scoped registry credential lookup for every Node.js mirror request instead of introducing a separate authentication setting.

Zoltan Kochan 74f9236b67 feat: support integrity-addressed registry revisions (#13475)
Add registry replacement-tarball support to the TypeScript and Rust pnpm implementations. Validate explicit positive safe-integer revision metadata against complete SHA-512 integrity-addressed registry URLs, compact and hydrate revision resolutions in the lockfile, and enforce a single authenticated non-redirecting fetch with no retry or fallback.

Route revision URLs through the normalized scope and prefix maps derived from the registries setting, preserving registry path prefixes. Let pnpr proxy immutable revision artifacts for concrete upstream registries with forwarded authentication, integrity verification, and digest caching. Carry revision metadata through pnpr's resolver protocol so pacquet uses the same strict fetch behavior for direct and proxied resolution paths.

Leave revision selection and history, patch refresh commands, pnpr hosted publishing, and the RFC's unresolved lockfile compatibility gate for follow-up work.

Zoltan Kochan ea10c041a5 feat(stage): approve staged packages interactively with one OTP (#14140)
`pnpm stage approve` accepted exactly one stage id and wrapped each request in
its own `withOtpHandling`, so releasing a workspace meant one invocation and one
proof of presence per package, in an order the releaser had to work out by hand.

It now takes a list of stage ids, and with none it lists the staged versions and
offers them in a checkbox prompt (the non-interactive case keeps failing with
STAGE_ID_REQUIRED, now with a hint).

The batch runs through a new `OtpSession` in the web-auth package: it keeps the
one-time password a challenge yielded and passes it to every later request,
re-prompting only once the registry stops accepting it — a classic TOTP expires
within a minute, which is exactly the case a whole-workspace approval hits.
`withOtpHandling` is now the single-operation form of that session, so publish
and reject behave as before.

Inside a workspace the selection is sorted through the workspace dependency
graph (the same sequencer the recursive commands use), keyed on the name each
project publishes under, since that is the only name a staged version carries. A
package whose workspace dependency could not be approved is skipped rather than
published against a dependency that never reached the registry. A registry
verdict on one version leaves the rest of the batch running and ends with a
non-zero exit; an authentication failure or a broken connection aborts it.

The registry's description of a staged version decides what a maintainer
publishes, so its id and package name are validated as they came — a hidden
character can neither be stripped into a valid value nor keep a name from
matching a workspace package — and the display-only fields are stripped of the
control characters that could redraw the picker around a selection. The shared
`@pnpm/text.sanitize` package holds that character set for both the staged
picker and `update --interactive`, mirroring the `pnpm-text-sanitize` crate.

Both stacks implement this, down to the partial-batch summary and exit code —
pacquet has no output-with-exit-code channel, so it prints the summary the way
the dispatcher prints command output and exits 1.

Zoltan Kochan d3556f6ba9 refactor(text): move lexCompare and nerfDart into the monorepo (#13535)
Both utilities lived in the pnpm/components Bit workspace, where their
component names collide with same-named components elsewhere in the Bit
registry. Move the code here and publish it under new names:

  `@pnpm/util.lex-comparator` -> `@pnpm/text.ordinal-comparator`
  `@pnpm/config.nerf-dart`    -> `@pnpm/config.registry-auth-key`

The new names describe what the utilities do: the comparator is ordinal
rather than locale-aware, and the mapped URL is the key that registry
settings are stored under in `.npmrc`. The exported functions keep their
names, so consumers only change their import specifiers.

Implementations and tests are carried over unchanged. The rationale from
the components' docs pages moves into doc comments: why `localeCompare`
cannot be used for values compared across machines, and where `nerfDart`
originates.

No pacquet counterpart is needed. The Rust stack has its own
implementations of both and no user-visible behavior changes.

John-David Dalton b9e7b8d88d feat(login): support web login without an interactive terminal (#13479)
pnpm login refused to run whenever stdin or stdout was not a TTY, even
though the registry web-auth flow only prints an authentication URL and
polls the done endpoint until the browser approval completes - neither
needs a terminal. Agent- and CI-adjacent tooling had to wrap pnpm in a
pseudo-terminal (script -q /dev/null pnpm login) to use the web flow.

Move the non-interactive guard from the top of the login command into
the classic username/password fallback, the only path that prompts on
the terminal. Without a TTY the web flow now prints the authentication
URL and polls as before; the URL is printed without the QR code (a
piped stdout cannot render the block art), and the press-ENTER browser
prompt was already skipped for a non-TTY stdin. A registry without web
login support still fails with ERR_PNPM_LOGIN_NON_INTERACTIVE.

Harden the TypeScript web-login path to match pacquet while touching
it: narrow the attacker-controlled response body at runtime (a missing,
empty, or non-string loginUrl/doneUrl is an invalid response), and
reject URLs containing Unicode control characters with pacquet's
ERR_PNPM_AUTH_COMMANDS_LOGIN_UNSAFE_URL before anything is printed or
polled. The shared error message now says "authentication URL" in both
stacks, since the check covers loginUrl and doneUrl alike.

Implemented in both stacks: the TypeScript CLI moves the guard into
classicLogin and prints a URL-only message via the new
formatAuthUrlOnlyMessage export of the web-auth package; pacquet moves
the same guard into classic_login and selects AuthUrlMessage::UrlOnly
when stdout is not a TTY. The pacquet CLI adapter unit test and the
CLI-tier integration tests now drive the guard through a 404 web-login
probe so it exercises the classic fallback, and a new integration test
covers the headless web flow end-to-end against a mock registry.

Also acknowledge a pre-existing zizmor ref-version-mismatch finding on
the winget-releaser pin in update-latest.yml with the repository's
usual inline ignore: the pinned commit is no longer reachable from any
named ref upstream, so no version comment can describe it accurately.

Khải 62236cb424 feat(network/web-auth): bound the token-poll body and make QR failure non-fatal (#13191)
Harden the web-based authentication flow against a malicious or
compromised registry, in both @pnpm/network.web-auth and its pacquet
port.

Bound the token poll: cap the token response body read from the
registry-supplied "done" URL at 64 KiB, and do not read the body of
non-OK or still-pending (HTTP 202) responses at all, so a registry
cannot grow pnpm's memory through the poll loop.

Make a failed QR code non-fatal: when a QR code cannot be generated
(for example when the authentication URL exceeds the maximum QR data
capacity), warn and display the URL on its own instead of aborting
authentication.

kyungseopk1mandZoltan Kochan cbecd4afc0 fix(config): allow tokenHelper to be set in the global auth.ini (#12833)
### What

Allow a `tokenHelper` configured in the global pnpm `auth.ini` to be used, instead of rejecting it as project-level configuration.

Closes #12759.

### Why

The guard that blocks `tokenHelper` from a project `.npmrc` (so a checked-in `.npmrc` can't run an arbitrary command) validated the helper against `userConfig`, which only contains `~/.npmrc`. But `pnpm config set` writes a `tokenHelper` to the global `auth.ini`, which flows into `trustedConfig`, not `userConfig`. As a result a legitimately configured `tokenHelper` was rejected on every command with `ERR_PNPM_TOKEN_HELPER_IN_PROJECT_CONFIG`, and `pnpm config delete` failed as well. The guard's own comment already says the helper may come from "`~/.npmrc` or global auth.ini".

### How

Validate against `trustedConfig` instead of `userConfig`. `trustedConfig` merges the trusted sources (including `~/.npmrc` and the global `auth.ini`) but excludes workspace and project `.npmrc` files, so the global helper is accepted while a project-level one is still rejected.

Tests in `config/reader` cover both paths: a `tokenHelper` in the global `auth.ini` is honored, and a `tokenHelper` in a project `.npmrc` still throws `ERR_PNPM_TOKEN_HELPER_IN_PROJECT_CONFIG`.

### Pacquet parity

Pacquet had no `tokenHelper` support at all, so this PR also ports the whole feature to the Rust stack (matching the cardinal rule that user-visible changes land in both stacks):

- **Config layer** (`pnpm/crates/config`): parse `//host/:tokenHelper` (scoped and default forms too) from trusted `.npmrc` / `auth.ini` sources only; reject a project/workspace helper via the same full-vs-trusted comparison used on the TypeScript side; and reject reserved characters — surfacing the same `ERR_PNPM_TOKEN_HELPER_IN_PROJECT_CONFIG` / `ERR_PNPM_TOKEN_HELPER_UNSUPPORTED_CHARACTER` codes.
- **Network layer** (`pnpm/crates/network`): `AuthHeaders` carries the un-executed command per registry and runs it lazily on lookup, memoized (runs at most once, and never for a command that makes no matching request). Baked headers keep their eager, lock-free hot path; a header is emitted only on success, so a failing helper sends no credential.
- **Known divergence**: because `AuthHeaders::for_url` is infallible and there is no single network seam, a helper failure surfaces as a loud error plus an unauthenticated request rather than pnpm's hard whole-command abort.
- **Known divergence — execution timing**: pnpm runs every configured registry's `tokenHelper` when it builds the auth-header lookup (so a helper for a registry never contacted still runs); pacquet runs each helper lazily on the first request to that registry (per-registry, memoized, and never on a command that makes no matching request). Both bound execution at 60s.

Covered by new Rust unit + integration tests (parse, trust guard, reserved-char, env-drop, lazy execution / memoization, and an end-to-end `/bin/echo` run).

Alessio Attilio 508b8c29db feat(cli): implement the access command for both pnpm and pacquet (#12816)
Implement the pnpm access command in both the TypeScript CLI (pnpm11/registry-access/commands/src/access.ts) and the Rust pacquet port (pacquet/crates/cli/src/cli_args/access.rs). The command follows npm's npm access paradigm and supports: list packages (users, orgs, teams, and per-package collaborators), get status (package public/restricted access status), set status (change package visibility with restricted/private mapped to restricted), set mfa (configure two-factor authentication requirements per package with none/publish/automation levels), grant (grant read-only or read-write team access to scoped packages), revoke (revoke team access from scoped packages). Both implementations include auth header and OTP support, JSON output mode, proper error handling with pnpm error codes, and comprehensive unit tests. The TypeScript tests use mock agent fixtures and the Rust tests cover parameter validation and error paths.

Mateusz Burzyński 1e81761409 Expose web authentication authUrl and doneUrl in JSON error output when OTP is required in a non-interactive terminal (#12786)
Preserve web-auth OTP challenge URLs when OTP handling fails because pnpm is not running in an interactive terminal.

The web-auth layer now carries authUrl and doneUrl from the registry challenge onto OtpNonInteractiveError. The pnpm error handler includes those fields in parseable JSON error output when present.

The same URL preservation was added to pacquet's web-auth error type to keep the two implementations aligned. Tests cover the TS and Rust web-auth layers and the pnpm JSON error output path.
