Zoltan Kochan 1860c1c75e chore: move get-pnpm into the workspace and pin npm's signing keys once (#17341)
get-pnpm moves from pnpm/get.pnpm.io into pnpm/npm/get-pnpm, at 0.0.9
(get.pnpm.io be4e983, where its history stays).

- The pnpm v12 npm package depends on it with `workspace:*`, so a pnpm
release bundles get-pnpm's source as of that release. A wrapper fix no
longer needs a get-pnpm release, a catalog bump, and a
minimumReleaseAge exclusion first. bundle-node-gyp builds it before
the deploy injects its build output.
- It is released on its own: a `get-pnpm` product in bump.ts and
create-release-pr.yml (off by default), `get-pnpm@<version>` tags,
and build-get-pnpm/publish-get-pnpm jobs in release.yml. It is private
in the workspace so the TypeScript release's recursive publish skips
it; the packed manifest drops the flag.
- Its runtime dependencies stay exact, through a `get-pnpm` named
catalog. Its lint is the root ESLint config. Its TLS tests use the
fixture the Rust network tests use.
- The npm-wrapper CI job runs its tests on Node.js 24 and 22, beside
the wrapper's. The forwarding proxy in its download tests forwards
only to the servers the tests start.

npm's registry signing keys were pinned in five places: v11, v12,
get-pnpm, and get.pnpm.io's install.sh and install.ps1. Only v11's copy
was refreshed, by the release PR, and the two repositories handled a
withdrawn key in opposite ways. They now come from
.config/npm-signing-keys.json:

- .github/scripts/update-npm-signing-keys.mjs refreshes it from npm on
every release PR, not only v11 ones. A key npm stops listing stays,
  marked withdrawn.
- The meta-updater renders it into the v11, v12, and get-pnpm copies,
so `pnpm lint:meta` fails on a copy edited by hand. pnpm v11 and v12
keep trusting withdrawn keys, so packages signed before a rotation
verify. get-pnpm drops them, as get.pnpm.io's installers do.
- get.pnpm.io's update script is to read this file.

Zoltan KochanandClaude Opus 5.5 6f95957063 docs: lint prose with Vale (#17238)
* docs: lint prose with Vale

Add Vale with an in-repo style, .vale/styles/pnpm, that turns the
writing rules in AGENTS.md and the Google developer documentation style
guide into lint rules. The stock Vale packages (Google, Microsoft,
RedHat, write-good) were too noisy to block on, for example 1,300
passive-voice hits in the v12 docs alone, so the rules are written for
this repo, following the GitLab model. Each one links the guideline it
enforces.

Levels:
- error, fails CI: dashes, plain-word substitutions, condescending
words, "please", "note that", hedges, puffery, optional plurals,
exclamation marks, ellipses, curly quotes, generic link text, product
spellings, sentence-case headings, repeated words, double spaces,
implementation history in comments; in changesets, bold or italic
emphasis, internal names and release-line names.
- warning: future tense, sentences over 30 words, "instead of" and
  "so that" tails in changesets.
- suggestion: passive voice.

.vale.ini scopes the rules. Docs get every rule. Contributor Markdown
and code comments keep dashes and headings as warnings until their
roughly 8,100 em dashes are rewritten. Released changesets stay in
.changeset/ and are not rewritten, so lint-prose.mjs lints only the
changesets added since PROSE_BASE (the PR base in CI).

The prose workflow installs a pinned, checksum-verified Vale release and
runs `pnpm lint:prose`. The rest of this change rewrites the existing
docs, READMEs, contributor Markdown, and code comments to pass the
error-level rules. Only prose and comment text changed. Renamed
headings keep their anchors.

Spelling stays with cspell, which checks identifiers that Vale does not
see.

Zoltan Kochan 52fd8d8a1b ci: run dylint as a pnpm pipeline again (#16798)
pnpm runs scripts with the workspace toolchain first on PATH, the way it
puts a pinned Node.js first. cargo-dylint needs rustup itself: it runs the
`rustup` binary and builds its lint library with the nightly the library
pins, which only rustup's cargo selects. That is a requirement of the one
tool, so the dylint script asks for rustup's proxies instead of pnpm
changing how it runs Rust for every script.

pnpm/scripts/cargo-dylint.mjs runs `cargo dylint` from the first PATH
directory that holds both rustup and cargo, with that directory first on
PATH. The ci:rust-dylint script, the rust-dylint pipeline and its cargo
concurrency group come back, and CI runs the pipeline again, which also
installs the esm-loader bundle the crates embed, so its separate install
step goes. The pre-push hook calls the same helper in place of its own
PATH edit.

CONTRIBUTING.md no longer says pnpm install needs cargo on PATH: pnpm runs
cargo metadata from the toolchain it installs for rust-toolchain.toml.

8778146f56 chore: update dependencies, Node.js, pnpm, and GitHub Actions (#16781)
* chore: update dependencies, Node.js, pnpm, and GitHub Actions

* ci: run the wasm nightly through pnx and dylint through rustup

pnpm 12.11 runs scripts with the toolchain from rust-toolchain.toml first
on PATH, so `cargo +nightly-2026-08-27` reached a plain cargo that does not
know the `+toolchain` syntax. The wasm and runtime-probe builds now run
`pnx --package=rust@nightly-2026-08-27 cargo`, which installs the nightly
with the wasm target, so the rustup install and the job-wide
RUSTUP_TOOLCHAIN go.

cargo-dylint builds its lint library through the rustup proxies, which
pick the nightly the library pins and set RUSTUP_TOOLCHAIN for
dylint-link. Under pnpm it got the workspace's stable cargo instead. CI
now runs `cargo dylint` directly, as `just dylint` does, and the unused
pipeline goes. The pre-push hook, which runs as a pnpm script, puts the
directory holding `rustup` first on PATH for its dylint check.

* ci: bundle the esm loader before the dylint check

`pnpm-deps-restorer` embeds `cas-loader.mjs.inc`, which the prepare
script of `@pnpm/esm-loader` generates. `pnpm pipeline` installed it
implicitly; the direct `cargo dylint` run needs the install as a step.

2515828983 chore: update dependencies, Node.js, pnpm, and GitHub Actions (#16640)
* chore: update dependencies, Node.js, pnpm, and GitHub Actions

* chore: generate the embedded CAS loader bundle on install

The CAS loader that `deps-restorer` embeds with include_str! was a
minified esbuild bundle committed to the repo. Every enhanced-resolve or
esbuild bump rewrote most of it, and a stale copy failed CI with a
byte-by-byte assertion diff.

`@pnpm/esm-loader` now generates it from a `prepare` script, so every
`pnpm install` that includes the package writes it before cargo builds.
Cargo already depends on that install for `.pnpm/crates`. The package
gets its own esbuild devDependency instead of borrowing pnpm11/pnpm's.
The filtered installs that feed cargo (install-crates and the wasm
release job) now also select `@pnpm/esm-loader`.

Also ignore GHSA-hp3w-g68c-fv3c. sprintf-js has no patched release, and
it is reached only through argparse 1 formatting its own help text.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* chore: write the CAS loader bundle atomically and generate it for wasm CI

An interrupted `prepare` could leave a truncated bundle that a later
up-to-date install never rewrites. Write to a temporary file and rename.

The pnpm-wasm workflow builds the CLI after a filtered install, so it now
selects `@pnpm/esm-loader` too.

bac8077715 chore: update dependencies, Node.js, pnpm, and GitHub Actions (#16373)
* chore: update dependencies, Node.js, pnpm, and GitHub Actions

* fix(deps): hold `@yarnpkg/core` at 4.9.1

`@yarnpkg/core` 4.9.2 was published with `got` declared as a Yarn
`patch:` specifier. pnpm resolves that to a `link:` into a nonexistent
workspace path, so `got` is missing and the TypeScript compile fails
with TS2307 in `@yarnpkg/core/lib/httpUtils.d.ts`.

Pin the catalog entry back to 4.9.1, override the transitive copy that
`@yarnpkg/nm` pulls in through `^4.9.1`, and add the package to
`update.ignoreDeps` so the daily update-lockfile run stops bumping it.

Zoltan Kochan 658dbc30a6 feat: support pnpm in StackBlitz WebContainers (#16499)
Compile the shared Rust CLI for wasm32-wasip1-threads and supply filesystem,
network, process, terminal and cancellation capabilities through a Node host.
Select host implementations at compile time so native builds retain their
native dependency/features and execution paths.

Bundle the WASM runtime in the regular npm wrappers and select it from the
WebContainer runtime marker. Keep Node launchers usable without installation
scripts. Native installation replaces all four launchers with native bytes.
Regenerate shims after upgrades or dependency builds replace Node targets with
native binaries, including before dependent lifecycle scripts run. Preserve
collision winners and publish replacement shims with executable permissions.
Reject non-descendant permission templates and intermediate symlink escapes, validate before creating directories, and avoid path-based cleanup races.
Restore direct native aliases in both version-management implementations.
Retain process cleanup after failed stdin shutdown. Prevent cross-origin redirects from replaying login credentials in both CLI lines, and strip npm-otp from cross-origin WASM requests. Avoid repeated selected-snapshot and removed-bin scans.

Preserve resolution, lockfile, integrity and build-approval behavior. Use an
isolated WASM store with rollback journals and process leases. Patch WASI path
normalization for multiple parent segments and retain that patch in bundles.

Add pinned tooling, release packaging, real-browser workflow and selection
tests, documentation and a release note. Document host limits, including the
Corepack cold-download failure in WebContainer's streaming hash implementation.
Controlled native CLI cases showed no separated slowdown, and the latest
hoisted rebuild and repeat-install fixture improved. Retain the documented
microbenchmark uncertainty and host limitations.

* chore: update dependencies, Node.js, pnpm, and GitHub Actions

* chore: keep `@yarnpkg/core` at 4.9.1

`@yarnpkg/core@4.9.2` was published with a Yarn-only
`patch:got@npm%3A11.8.2#~/.yarn/patches/...` dependency. pnpm locked it
as a dangling `link:`, so `got` was never installed and `tsgo` failed on
`@yarnpkg/core/lib/httpUtils.d.ts` in TS CI / Compile & Lint.

* chore: drop registry mirror URLs from the lockfile

The previous commit regenerated the lockfile with a local scoped
registry override, which wrote non-npmjs tarball URLs for `@pnpm/`
packages and failed the supply-chain check in CI.

3d6be8cf7b perf(ci): cache the vendored Rust dependencies and shorten the Windows Rust job (#15451)
Cache the vendored Rust dependencies: rust-cache kept only packages
outside the workspace root, and pnpm vendors crates.io dependencies
inside it, so every Rust job compiled about 950 crates. Rooting it at
pnpm/ and pnpr/ keeps the vendored crates and still drops the workspace
crates, which a fresh checkout rebuilds anyway. Build the Windows
pacquet and pnpr tests once, build both benchmark revisions with thin
LTO, run Garnet on the Node.js 24 chunk that finishes first, and stop
the CI compile step from fixing lint errors.

Tests that need a failed connect dial 0.0.0.0, which Windows rejects at
once where a refused loopback port takes 2 s, placeholder tarballs no
longer point at a .local name that waits on mDNS, git fixtures spawn
fewer processes, the cargo failed-resolution test answers cargo's
underscore lookup, two tests that count metadata requests use their own
cache dir instead of the shared default one, and three publish-wait tests
allow the second probe a deadline race can send.

Efe Baran Durmaz b04c656cc2 perf(ci): split, balance and cache CI work (#15300)
Split TypeScript tests into three chunks per Node.js version on Linux and
five on Windows, balanced by recorded Jest durations, and start the
Windows chunks while their pnpr fixtures build. Skip Jest coverage in CI,
which nothing reads. Keep Rust sources from widening the TypeScript test
scope.

Cache Rust compiler output with sccache on Linux and macOS, because
rust-cache prunes every dependency of this workspace, and run Rust
coverage on 8 vCPUs with its own compiler cache. Save at most one cache
entry per scope and day.

Build the pnpr fixtures without fat LTO, at opt-level 1, on every push to
main and on 16 vCPUs for Windows. Avoid obsolete PR work, full-history
benchmark build checkouts and test-only network backoff. Keep all
platforms, Node.js versions, merge-queue validation, production retry
defaults, and the release and benchmark build profiles.

Zoltan Kochan 411819b0f0 chore: use pnpm v12.6 task priority and change check (#15297)
Give the pre-push:rust task highest priority (10) so it jumps
ahead of background builds in the cargo concurrency group queue.

Replace the custom TypeScript check-versioning-invariants script
with the native pnpm change check command, which now validates
pending change intents in addition to version invariants.

Add a Rust CI / Change Check job that runs pnpm change check on
every PR that touches .changeset/ or Rust sources, closing the
gap where a Rust-only PR with a malformed changeset was caught
only at release time.

Zoltan Kochan aa8d0ab9af feat(run): task concurrency groups with machine-wide limits (#15010)
Add task concurrency groups to pnpm v12. A task in pnpm-workspace.yaml
names a `concurrencyGroup`, and `concurrencyGroups` gives each group a
limit: at most that many tasks of the group run at once on the machine,
counted across every pnpm process. A task past the limit waits for a
running one to finish and prints who holds the slots.

A group's pool is N slot files under `<stateDir>/run-slots/<group>/`. A
task takes an exclusive advisory lock on one in `run_stages` and holds it
for every stage of its script, so the single-project run, the recursive
run, and the tasks a `pnpm pipeline` runs in-process are all counted,
each project's task separately. The operating system releases the lock
when the holder ends, however it ends, so a killed holder never leaves a
stale slot. `pnpm exec` names no task and is not gated.

A holder lists its group in `PNPM_HELD_CONCURRENCY_GROUPS` for the
scripts it spawns. A nested `pnpm run` of a task in the same group runs
under the slot its parent holds, which is what keeps a script that calls
`pnpm run` from waiting on itself under a limit of one.

`concurrencyGroups` merges entry by entry across the configuration
layers, so a machine can lower one group's limit through
`PNPM_CONFIG_CONCURRENCY_GROUPS` without restating the rest.

Every process that is meant to be counted has to start as
`pnpm <script>`, so the root manifest gains scripts that wrap the just
recipes and node scripts (`test:rust`, `test:rust-affected`,
`test:rust-smoke`, `check:rust`, `lint:rust`, `ready:rust`,
`pre-push:rust`), the pre-push hook runs its Rust checks through one,
and the agent guide, the testing-changes skill, and the contributing
guide name the pnpm scripts first.

This repository's own task declarations wait for a pnpm release that
knows the field: the pinned CLI rejects an unknown task setting, so
adding `concurrencyGroup` to pnpm-workspace.yaml now would break every
command for it.

Zoltan Kochan 2ea04e6e52 style(rust): adopt complexity-aware rustfmt (#14875)
Pin pnpm's rustfmt fork and use a cached wrapper for local formatting,
CI, pre-push checks, and editor integration. The formatter has its own
dated nightly runtime while the workspace keeps its existing compiler.

Choose chain layout by call count and argument complexity, with a
40-column allowance for short expressions. Attach the first method when
the complete first line would otherwise end within the continuation
indentation. Preserve simple receivers,
cap intermediate leading accesses at column 80 and final accesses at
100, and separate fields and
await after wrapped methods. Apply the same rules in conditions.

Keep Max heuristics and compact struct literals, with an independent
35-column destructuring limit. Reformat pnpm and pnpr, extract only the
helpers and test modules needed for existing size limits, and fix macro
commas without relaxing lint rules.

Zoltan Kochan d2c5ecbb63 chore(ci): run checks through pnpm pipelines (#14690)
Declare CI pipelines and root task scripts, and invoke them from the
TypeScript, Rust, reusable test, and pnpr build workflows. Let pipelines
perform frozen installs and order TypeScript compilation before linting.

Keep existing test runners responsible for affected-package selection,
file-level sharding, and summary generation. Read shard settings from the
workflow environment, with explicit command-line arguments taking precedence.

Run root tasks with --include-workspace-root --full: the scripts live in the
root manifest only, and the test runners already select their own scope. Pass
--no-cache so a task that later declares outputs cannot skip a check.

Keep the dependency install in its own step in the two jobs whose commands are
timed for Bencher, so the reported duration stays a test duration. Preserve
existing job gates and artifact handoffs.

Zoltan Kochan 9440b519f3 feat(versioning): band package versions via the release engine and add pnpm change check (#13190)
Move pnpm's version banding and lockstep off the .meta-updater hacks and onto
the integrated versioning engine, then restore the PR-time drift guard the move
removed.

- versioning.epics bands every pnpm11/ library major to the pnpm CLI's major;
  versioning.fixed keeps [pnpm, @pnpm/exe, ...artifacts] in exact-version
lockstep. Both live in pnpm-workspace.yaml. Removes the
smallestAllowedLibVersion rewrite, the @pnpm/exe/artifact version forcing,
the EXPERIMENTAL_PKGS set, and the semver dependency from .meta-updater.
- Adds `pnpm change check` (both stacks): a static counterpart to
`pnpm change status` that validates committed versions against the epic bands
and fixed-group lockstep, failing with every violation listed. Backed by
checkVersioningInvariants / check_versioning_invariants in the versioning
engine. Wired into CI via the check:versioning lint step so drift is caught at
PR time, the way meta-updater --test used to catch it.

Zoltan Kochan d1eed55e4c chore: adopt workspace task scheduler (#14331)
* chore: adopt workspace task scheduler

Run package tests through the workspace scheduler with a concurrency limit matched to Jest workers.

Keep the one-shot compile artifact as the build barrier so test jobs do not repeat builds.

Use workspace-relative Jest cache paths so packages with the same basename cannot share output.

* fix: keep Jest caches inside workspace cache directory

Reject project directories outside the workspace before constructing Jest cache paths.

Zoltan Kochan 03436d6880 fix: repair TS CI compile and lint after the dependency and Node.js update (#14206)
The dependency update (pnpm/pnpm#14205) broke TS CI / Compile & Lint in
two independent ways.

streamx 2.28.1 declares the 'data' event payload as unknown, so the five
tar-stream data handlers in the releasing commands that annotated the
chunk as Buffer no longer typechecked. They now take the chunk as
unknown and cast at the use site; tar-stream emits Buffers at runtime,
so the emitted JavaScript is unchanged.

The Node.js v26.8.0 binaries on nodejs.org were built with a bogus
version string and self-report as 26.8.0-alpha.0.0.0 (Node.js shipped
26.8.1 the next day to correct it). That prerelease-looking version made
cspell's engine guard reject the runtime during lint and made node-gyp
request a nonexistent v26.8.0-alpha.0.0.0 headers tarball for native
builds. The pinned runtime is bumped to 26.8.1 in the root devEngines,
the compile-only script, the CI test matrix, and the benchmark and
release workflows.
