Brad Fitzpatrick 483e2efcc0 types/jsonx: add wrapper types for JSON time and duration wire formats
Add DurationNano, DurationUnits, DurationISO8601, TimeUnix,
TimeUnixNano, and TimeRFC1123: wrappers around time.Duration and
time.Time that marshal to the wire formats that json `format:` struct
tag options (format:nano, format:units, and so on) used to produce
with github.com/go-json-experiment/json.

Go 1.27's encoding/json rejects format tag options outright, and the
module moved its support behind a global experimental option that its
documentation says will be removed (see golang/go#71631). Struct tags
are also only honored by the marshaler that happens to encode the
struct, so any stdlib encoding/json call reaching a tagged struct,
including generated MarshalJSON methods, breaks under Go 1.27. These
types instead carry their wire format with them: they implement both
the v1 json.Marshaler/Unmarshaler and the module's
MarshalerTo/UnmarshalerFrom interfaces and produce identical bytes
under the standard library and the module, on Go 1.26 and Go 1.27.
Tests verify byte-for-byte parity against the module's format tag
encodings across randomized values.

Unmarshal is additionally lenient where the legacy standard library
produced a different encoding for the underlying type because it
ignored the tags: the Time types also accept RFC 3339 strings and the
string-formatted Duration types also accept nanosecond counts, so
previously persisted data remains readable.

The tailscale corp repo will migrate its format tag uses to these
types; this repo has none.

Private WireGuard® networks made easy

Overview

This repository contains the majority of Tailscale's open source code. Notably, it includes the tailscaled daemon and the tailscale CLI tool. The tailscaled daemon runs on Linux, Windows, macOS, and to varying degrees on FreeBSD and OpenBSD. The Tailscale iOS and Android apps use this repo's code, but this repo doesn't contain the mobile GUI code.

Using

We serve packages for a variety of distros and platforms at https://pkgs.tailscale.com.

Other clients

The macOS, iOS, and Windows clients use the code in this repository but additionally include small GUI wrappers. The GUI wrappers on non-open source platforms are themselves not open source.

Building

We always require the latest Go release, currently Go 1.26. (While we build releases with our Go fork, its use is not required.)

go install tailscale.com/cmd/tailscale{,d}

If you're packaging Tailscale for distribution, use build_dist.sh instead, to burn commit IDs and version info into the binaries:

./build_dist.sh tailscale.com/cmd/tailscale
./build_dist.sh tailscale.com/cmd/tailscaled

If your distro has conventions that preclude the use of build_dist.sh, please do the equivalent of what it does in your distro's way, so that bug reports contain useful version information.
